The skating rink is is still open and no the pumpkin guy hasn't sold yet. Guess there was a deal on the table but it fell through. Don't think it was with the city though. :o)
The Vogue theatre isn't there anymore and neither is The Corner Shop. Most of my childhood memories gone lol. I wonder if the skating rink is still open or if the pumpkin guy ever sold his land to the city.
I have lots of fond memories of Salina, having visited dozens of times over the years to see family. It is a lovely city, and a real shame that it has fallen on such hard times. I hope it has a comeback. And I agree, how can Jewel not reference Cozy Burgers?!? That joint is as Salina as cattle, corn and sunflowers!

That's the first time I've ever heard of an entertainer writing a song for their host city. Great idea. I left some wonderful friends but wouldn't want to live there again. Complliments to the people at the Stiefel Theatre for doing an incredible job signing up great entertainers who normally perform in front of a much larger audience. Don't know how they do it.
Jewel missed a verse....."Industry sucks, you're out of luck if you're looking for a job....The city commissioners are being tight assed, worthless slobs...We could have had a racetrack and a Toyota plant, but the nice folks in this hole shot down that chance.....Salina, Kansas".
