  • I got a version of the rom of a DS Chrono Trigger solely to get this ending for Schala but for some reason when I wait to go to follow Marle (I call her Elza) it just keeps on showing that scene, never going through it, is it possible i'm using a rom version of CT that doesn't work for that part? I would appreciate any help/links to a rom that would work without problems for the DS emulator, really. :)

  • >and there are millions of fans considering even its dump as a valuable, come to think of it,

Citation needed. Skyrim is the best game Bethesda made since Morrowind. Oblivion sounds like the game you are describing. That game truly was garbage.

  • Remember one rule of videogame development: When a game becomes more a book than a game, it gets boring, players want entertaiment, they go to school to get life lessons. But today's industry is taking too much reality for they creations, all RPGs and stuff are just Second Life with a style, like GTA4 and its "bowling" or Skyrim and it's non-combat roles.

  • @doarner Ha. Have you even played Skyrim? It's fun as hell. The only people who are bored by 'playing books' and reading text-intensive games are the illiterate and those with ADHD. Judging by the sales of Skyrim, I'm actually surprised that so many people liked it. I honestly expected the average joe to be exactly like you; bored by games that allow you to complete quests by using your speech skill which forces you to actually pay attention to what you're reading. I bet you're boring.

  • @doarner Also, who are you to speak for the masses? Your entire argument is null and void due to the fact that Skyrim's sales broke records and is played and loved by millions. It was even a hit in Japan (imagine that) Conversely, companies like Square/Enix are struggling to stay afloat.

  • @PharodWormhair Wow, you got really mad.

Besides, by your argument, Skyrim is like the justin bieber's album, both sold millions of copies around the world and there are millions of fans considering even its dump as a valuable, come to think of it, the only time i've seen such defense for a comment of mine was for the same case, when i wrote that bieber was an embarrasment to Canada (and she is).

    Relation?

  • @doarner I'm not mad; more like annoyed by your lack of logic. First you claim that 'gamers want entertainment' and imply that text-heavy games aren't entertaining/is the complete antithesis of what gamers want today. I claimed otherwise and used Skyrim's sales (a text-heavy non-linear game) as proof. Your analogy is shit. People who listen to Bieber are still fans of music. Liking Bieber doesn't make them any less of a music fan. Your implying fans of Skyrim are somehow less of a gamer

  • @PharodWormhair Gotta redefine that term "gamer", you are a gamer and you like text-heavy non-linear games, i'm a gamer but i don't like that kind of games, i prefer more interaction with the story, less stuff i can be doing outside, like becoming a blacksmith or go hunting. Some go with the flow, others don't, and like this case (video), it's a good example of an "underrated" game that become a legend, with no big sales or preliminary attention.

  • @doarner Yeah, I see where you're coming from. Everyone has their own taste in games. Keep in mind that I loved and still love Chrono Trigger and games like FF6, Secret of Mana, etc. I consider them classics and I feel that they hold up even today. However, I wouldn't call Chrono Trigger underrated. It just took America a few more years (FF7) to grow the RPG console market; in my opinion, that's why CT didn't sell as well here compared to Japan. Hell, the FF series didn't either until FF7.

  • @doarner Oh, and this game did get a lot of attention for the time period. I remember huge 20+ page articles in Gamepro and EGM magazine when this game came out (the game also got perfect or near perfect scores). At the time, the Internet was in its infantcy; video game magazines was where gamers got the 'scoop' about up and coming AAA releases. I'm not sure how old you are, but if you're 25+ you probably remember how popular video game magazines were back then. We didn't have Google yet.

  • @PharodWormhair Not too old frankly, a part of my information about 8 and 16bit games comes from "recent encounters". And that may be the thing here, younger gamers would appreciate this old school stuff mostly for its rarity and "underground" value with the right information about them, today a popular game is susceptible to critic and that make gamers like us to look back, sometimes way back.

  • Too bad JRPGs haven't evolved much beyond this Ultima esque formula it's the same gameplay just in 3D now

  • WHOA!

  • this lavos looks bad ass... so cool!

  • It's strongest chaos zone is Lighting (998 damage)

  • @AeroClash Time Devourer

  • I loathe Chrono Cross with every last bit of my being. This ending never happened; in fact, Chrono Trigger has never have a re-release. EVER. Nothing that could possibly give any chance for that game to exist.

  • @cursedex Chrono Cross is the best rpg game I've ever played hands down.

  • @FadeSao Was it also the only one you have played? Or are you comparing it to with the crap that is the FF series from VII onwards? You have to look no further than the predecesor to find an greater game (altough, to be honest, Chrono Trigger will best almost any RPG)

  • @cursedex No I've played all rpg games since the nintendo. I like Chrono Trigger but it didn't leave an impression like it did to me with Chrono Cross. The only arguments I've heard for bashing CC was because of the death of the CT characters.. Really? Death is inevitable even for Crono so I didn't take it as a big deal. And I loved the predecessor games more than the currents for example, FFIV was way better than VII. Breath of Fire III & IV over V and so forth. Just my own opinion.

  • @FadeSao Yeah, FF IV and VI >>>>>>> FF VII all the way. But back to Cross, my complains with it are lack of music at certain points (most notable the last dungeon) or the music just plain sucks; level up sistem being the greatest dissapointment ever, and the story only begins to make sense once the ghosts of Chrono, Marle and Lucca tell it to you next to the last boss' warp, which is extremely anticlimatic and shows the developers failed to tell the story during the game itself.

  • @cursedex I thought Yasunori Mitsuda did agreat job with his music. Out of the many rpg games, I've never downloaded or listen to any ost besides the ones of CC. And I disagree, the level up system was brilliant. Only problem was summons will deplete it. As for the story, It did fail to tell the story and linking the two game together but honestly I was more hooked to all of the characters side story that it gave me a satisfying spin. Only wish there would be more for the Chrono series

  • @FadeSao Also there are 40+ out of which 30+ are plain useless (in fact, make Glenn a dual Einlancer weilder and he can solo the game) and give nothing to the story, an they're not even much differences between them except for alingment, verbal tics and magic grid. Speaking about magic, they only have 3 exclusive magic spells, the rest being able to equip them, making it even less of a diference between them and just plain monotonous to fight, which is already unrewarding due to level up system.

  • @cursedex Well I could say the same thing with Magus having the same tech as Crono, Marle and Lucca. The element grid was the best part. Having to level up to a certain level to learn juvenile powers such as fire, ice and lightning is sad. Techs rules! And I despise the leveling up system with every rpgs with the whole exp. Overly redundant. And a plain monotonous fight would be the attack and enemy once per round which is the same in majority of rpg games.

  • @FadeSao

    >And a plain monotonous fight would be the attack and enemy once per round which is the same in majority of *Japanese-style* rpg games.

Fixed. You may be forgetting Baldur's Gate/Infinity Engine games, Bethesda games, Fallout 1 and 2, Bioware games, Might and Magic series, Ultima series... you get the idea. I'll admit--I grew up with games like Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy series, Breath of Fire series, etc but that tired formula is growing old. Real fucking old.

  • @PharodWormhair

ok then Dark Souls and Xenoblade have better gameplay/combat system than all WRPG combined.U mad??only Jap devs could make a very awesome turn-based combat(U know they are superior in making fighting games not FPS) and I'm still enjoying it.please give me the names of wrpgs which has turn-based combat. Also I must add WRPG didn't have great background music.

  • @TheKestevon

    >Please give me the names of wrpgs which has turn-based combat.

Fallout 1 and 2. They're better than any of the garbage you listed.

  • @TheKestevon >ok then Dark Souls and Xenoblade have better gameplay/combat system than all WRPG combined

Skyrim beats the shit out of those games in all areas (story, combat, etc)

  • @PharodWormhair it's pointless debating these issues with Kestevon, if it isn't from Japan it is garbage in his mind he simply makes blind assertions with out any fact based evidence that can verify his idea that everything Japan is superior to anything westerners could or have developed

  • @PharodWormhair

Skyrim has better combat??hmm...ok I know U love playing FPS garbage.story?since when WRPG has better story telling.

  • @TheKestevon poor poor small minded Kestevon still on your anti Western pro Japan superieority crusade I see, all of your whining still will not change the facts that WRPGs have more international appeal and have more sales, have greater immersion and turn based combat (or the new term is time based I think) is a thing of the past, you and your misguided supriority complex are shouting your blind assertions at a wall of evidence... good luck you'll get em some day sport.

  • @TheKestevon

    >since when WRPG has better story telling.

Since Dungeons and Dragons was invented (which inspired Squaresoft--seriously, look it up).

  • @PharodWormhair don't forget the gameplay of D&D and the Ultima series inspired much of the unevolving JRPG genre

  • @PharodWormhair Skyrim beats those gems you mentioned ONLY in the bugs area.

  • @TheArruined Yeah..because playing as a long-haired androgynous male that is forced into a predetermined, stereotypical hero role along a linear path is totally role playing. Skyrim offers the player a choice to align themselves with 3+ major factions that are ethically ambiguous along with hundreds of optional questlines and hundreds of hours of exploration. Dark Souls and Xenoblade are mediocre J-RPGS that are a dime a fucking dozen. But it's useless debating with you weeaboos.

  • @TheArruined It's 2012. J-RPGS were only good when there were no other competitors/options. They became outdated as soon as Baldur's Gate for the PC was released. Thankfully, you japanophiles are a dying breed. And I mean that literally because lord knows that the majority of your subculture will never reproduce.Anyway, enjoy your pocky while you play FF10 for the nineteenth time (right before you wind down with a nice fap to an imported hentai movie).

  • @cursedex Btw, if you're gonna wield two holy sword that is designed to trump the masamune, I expect you to be able to pwn the game in a solo run lol real talk. We're talking about not one but two! That's 200%+ > Masamune and the masamune ain't no joke!

  • Dream Devourer = Super Lavos

  • @AeroClash It's the Time Devourer in Cross. It's clearly labeled the dream devourer here.

  • @magnus1114 And actually this ending ties the game right in with the events of Chrono Cross, and the Magus is Guile thing. Which is quite nice actually.

  • @magnus1114 I got them mixes up. My bad.

  • what his him hp 99999

  • Ah square, how you continue to leave an open ending when you're clearly not pushing towards a true sequel

  • is this boss in the snes versoin

  • @aangsword nope, this boss is in NDS version

  • @aangsword no this one's DS.

  • I had to get that robo hand thing that did 9999 damage to even attempt to beat this guy...

  • Thats it!? Thats the ending that all the fan boys love? How is this better than Chrono Cross?

  • @preludepatriots Have you played it? It's more awesome when you have.

  • Interesting how this extra boss fucks up everything in Square Enix's sad attempt to tie Trigger and that piece of shit know as Cross together.

  • lame setup

    Crono:

    Rainbow Sword

    Haste Helm

    Nova Armor

    Frenzy Band

keep the elixirs on hand and you can destroy anything just with his counter attacks, i killed all forms of lavos with Cronos Alone, piece of cake, also the hyper Lavos (ocean palace one) can be killed easily with minor help. I beat this game 54 times in the snes, +15 in emulators, + 5 DS.

also play in active mode, otherwise is easy :D

  • @Tanksoldier4 I have to agree. Frenzy Band + Rainbow Sword = Epic win with Crono. However. I didn't get far in the extra stuff on the DS version because my DS got stolen. So I cannot account for any better weapons or armor you get in the extra dungeons.

  • @AeroClash This is the stage before Lavos became the Time Devourer. Sorta like how Lavos had to stay in the Earth for eons to get enough power to destroy the world, the Devourer had to harness Schala's energy for years before it could become the Time Devourer. He hasn't reached his final stage. Hope this helps.

  • also would like to point out i beat all 3 dimensional vortex dungeons

  • so how do you get this ending? i beat chrono trigger teh "canon" way by downing teh black omen after i brought chrono back

  • PLEASEE mennn CRISIS ARM!!!!! its ROBO BEST WEAPON EVER

just need last Digit Number (HP 99"9") on 9 to hit 9 times ur base ATK that with UZZY PUNCH does like 7k DMG

  • Y'know, I just thought of another version of 2012 where lavos and/or the dream devourer come down to destroy the world.

  • Now all they gotta do is remake Chrono Cross. And do it better. First, get rid of half the PC's. Too effing many. Second, add Magus and his special ending.

  • This is by far the BEST version of the game, I remember playing it back in 2009

  • @EddieEddieEddie90 No it isn't. It's about as good as the original SNES version. The extra content was a nice touch, but it was absolutely not needed. Still the best RPG on the DS, though.

  • I love the old style RPG a lot more than the RPG of these day!

  • would seem they added this boss to both imply that the magus/janus like character from chrono cross was in fact magus, and to better explain the dream devourer, think the slight difference is the fact that in this form schala was still partially aware, where as the dream devourer had fully subjugated schala's will. either way i still heavly dislike cross for how it indirectly explains the fates of the original trigger characters.

  • So sad that they all ended up dying.

  • I'm not ok with this. Took me 38 hours to beat CT. I refuse to believe there is another boss. It's like the Diablo II expansion. You've already beat Satan but now you have to go beat.., umm... Satan's friend, yes, that fits!

  • @kazikian A lot of old fans already grew up on the SNES version, though, and so the extra boss is like an added incentive. And it's another way to bridge the game to Chrono Cross.

  • I'm making it snow on your videos! ^.^ Merry Christmas!

  • Oh you can Kill it in 2 hits, Equip Robo with that arm that does 9999 on critical hits and get Ayla to level 99 for 9999 hit

  • I love that atack "the end of all and nothing" this would look amazing if they made a chrono trigger version for xbox 360 or ps3

  • @AeroClash ohh that's right, I mixed them.. this explains a lot about F.A.T.E. role in CT and CC !!! Cheers guys !!

  • btw.. isn't the Time Devourer the Final boss of Chrono Cross ??

  • @Vanky20000 Dream Devourer is essentially its precursor stage

  • @AquaRing cheers =P

  • @Vanky20000 The Dream Devourer is the proto-version of the Time Devourer

  • I gotta ask, why didn't you have Marle use Haste in some of these fights? Wouldn't it have been helpful at all?

  • jesus this looks hard!

  • omg! Magus is... Janus! wtf?

  • @Lasagne221 that question is priceless.. :D

  • @Vanky20000 sorry I'm just... (tu verras que je ne suis pas anglais) not finish the chrono trigger (because the dalton golem) and I knew that Janus is Magus, I expressed only my... surprise (même si je le savais déjà). J'espère que tu ne parles pas français car sinon je me serais emmerder a ecrire ce texte (avec pleins de fautes) pour rien. Désolé si tu ne le comprend pas.

  • @Lasagne221 oui, oui, je comprend pas !! :) "Good Luck with your game" !

  • shitest ending ever

  • @quitedaboy89 yeah! the screw all the story.. those morons at S-E!!

  • Best boss in the game imo, so rewarding when it ends. I love world revolution too, such a stirring piece.

  • Wait isn't the Dream Devourer The Time Devourer from Chrono Cross?

  • @KHaskins23 yes

  • I find the ending following with Magus incredibly sad. I mean how can you not?

  • how do you get this boss?

  • @SuperAnimalChannel Complete all three Dimensional Vortex dungeons.
