Ack how do I do this.I have the lionheart for lightning,but it doesn't instant chain or anything and the little (see what I did there?) cactus takes like 2 seconds to fire it's needssiles and my ATB isn't even charged by then.
@Kanethedragon For the instant chain you have to equip an accessory like the speed stash or the survivalist catalog, and even then is only 0.5% chances that it works in every hit, and if you want to get a advantage upgrade the wisthewind scarf to the aurora scarf so that your ATB bar is completely charged at the begging of the battle, also use a sentinel if you can't seem to beat him.
@TheBluefire318 Nope XD. Random: Instant Chain is probably your best shot. There is also a way (which saved my ass) to stay out of his range. His needles have a set range, if you're too far away he can't hit you. I got it on luck but there are ways to actually induce the range and make use of it. Good luck!
I finally got lucky and beat this thing. For anyone wondering, equiping the energy sash / speed sash does work... It just takes forever for you to luck out!!
@3245james and btw is there a site that says what kind of damage they deal on you? What does cactuar do? Earth? Physical, cause damn, i hate how he atks and u get debuffed and fucking healer esunas instead of heal -_-;;
It's just a piece of cake for me, i kept using Despell, Deprotect, Daze, Curse, Fog until he has been Stragger, and use Commando on Lighting, Fang, and Vanelle as a Medic, my game ends 30 sec 5 stars!
@namaanH1712 There are no specific guns that hit more often than any other from what I can remember. The point is Sazh hits the enemy twice for every time another member of your party attacks, therefore increasing the number of hits the enemy sustains and effectively doubling the percentage that Random: Instant Chain occurs. Just make sure you have the correct accessories equipped from my previous message.

This piece of shit looking weed is annoying.I have all roles to level 5 and 2 weapons to tier 3 and the rest are tier 2.I don't know what I'am doing wrong.I used com/com/com then when I'am halfway to beat him he uses something to prevent me from attacking and he takes shit loads of health.I only need the last 10 missions in order to finish all the cieth missions.
I dont know if it was a bug or something, but when fighting this boss for like... 8th time (trying the lucky break thing) and I was just about to die, I summoned Sazh's Eidolon, then after my companions (Fang and Snow) revived they were very far from me hitting the boss. and they died again, and guess what ?? the boss didnt close the distance and his attacks didnt hit me, I was like :/ until I won, I cannot belive it, I dont know if it can be repeated.
@danie2332123 sazh has a wepon i think its pryoces or somthing that if you equip it along with a speed sash or a energy sash will give you the ability to insta stagger stuff however it is quite rare for it to haen
Damn, people keep posting asking about why the stagger bar jumped so much at 1:18! It's a hidden effect called Random: Instant Chain (PAL version), which randomly makes a user's attack raise the stagger bar to maximum, not stagger the enemy itself. The effect is triggered by wearing any combination of 2 of the following accessories: Energy Sash, Champion's Badge and Speed Sash. I'm not sure what the percentage of success is, but it is increased for Sazh thanks to his segmented attacks.
i really relied on the lucky break for this fight, and vanille's death spell (but that hardly worked) and instant stagger worked perfectly before he cast that 10,000 needle attack lol
@PrinceOfFayth Behold, the beauty of the Random: Instant Chain synthesized ability. Sazh is the absolute king of this ability, since he fires a lot of shots (and the ability has a chance to trigger on every hit).
@RNishida05 the synthesized ability random instant chain. use speed, energy sashes, with champion's badge, hunters friend and stagger affecting weapons to get this ability. You have a 0.5% chance of getting it to activate which is why the player is using sazh's blitz ability.
It's a special ability of one of Lightning's blades, it has a slight chance of staggering any monster, no matter what their resistances are with any attack. I think all characters have one of the type, but in this video Lightning does it.
@RNishida05 The reason why the catuar staggers that quick is because he has a quick stagger weapon. This abilities randomly staggers enemy at times whenever you hit someone. This is really useful for sazh if versing one enemy because his blitz move will attack that one enemy. With so many hits the probability that an enemy will stagger increases but it's just up chance.
This is useful for Sazh because his blitz attack sprays an enemy unlike the spin attack which Fang and Lightning use.
@numbertwelvefan93 his blitz is the unique one in the game, lightning, snow and feng all use the spin attack, though snow does use a hand grenade for the first chapters which is the equivalent to blitz, and he drops it around the same time you get the crystallarium. it's not like he had to drop it.
also, when it says can be hit in multiple locations, or if it's a long gui, use sazh's blitz.

i think he used the rigels, or one of them had a stagger locked weapon with 2 speed sash's. it gives a random instant stagger, thats how i beat him, i had the rigels and a speed and energy sash, got the instant stagger, and raped him :)
he probably has it. the reason the chain gauge shot up is because the ability took effect and judging by where it shot up to, its stagger point is about 900%.
also, sazh's gun, ANTARES DELUXES, has chain bonus boost I which increases abilities chain bonuses by 1. you can also upgrade them to FOMALHAUT ELITES increase the bonus to 2.

@xboxboy312 The higher your level is in Commando, Ravager, Medic, etc. you deal so much damage that it's strong enough to make the stagger reach its limit if the enemy is weak against your attack.

Wish I would have thought of Sazh's blitz. I just used Fang's Highwind for a rough million HP with the Genji glove after a stagger. I'll have to do this mission again for fun.
@musicmaniack256 its only remotely easy if you have over 10000 hp for at least your main character and i cant remember what weapon you use but i think fang can unlock the ability in her crystarrium at level 4

You know i loved the hunts back in FF 12 and this mission system really reminded me of it.
That being said i actually prefered the more action oriented battle system of 12 to this one, despite the hunts being more fun.
All in all 13 does not deserve the hate it gets, but it could have been so much better

OMG THAT WAS AMAZING i found that mission beyond hard still cant beat him cuz i cant buy those buff things but AMAZING im stuck on when you fight that guy in the robot suit kinda thing for like the third time and the army guys turn into l'ce i know how to beat him its just i dont wanna stagger him or he gets pissed

i think he used the rigels, or one of them had a stagger locked weapon with 2 speed sash's. it gives a random instant stagger, thats how i beat him, i had the rigels and a speed and energy sash, got the instant stagger, and raped him :)

instant stagger is a synthesized ability.
he probably has it. the reason the chain gauge shot up is because the ability took effect and judging by where it shot up to, its stagger point is about 900%.
also, sazh's gun, ANTARES DELUXES, has chain bonus boost I which increases abilities chain bonuses by 1. you can also upgrade them to FOMALHAUT ELITES increase the bonus to 2.

@xboxboy312 when an enemy is staggered, the more it is attacked the stagger percentage goes up, therefor you deal much more damage.

@xboxboy312 The higher your level is in Commando, Ravager, Medic, etc. you deal so much damage that it's strong enough to make the stagger reach its limit if the enemy is weak against your attack.

Wish I would have thought of Sazh's blitz. I just used Fang's Highwind for a rough million HP with the Genji glove after a stagger. I'll have to do this mission again for fun.

@musicmaniack256 its only remotely easy if you have over 10000 hp for at least your main character and i cant remember what weapon you use but i think fang can unlock the ability in her crystarrium at level 4

@snowmanshow12 All the FF Games with cactuars have been sporting this fact, 1 thorn = 1 damage, I believe there was a 100k Needles attack in FFX, correct me if I'm wrong though!

I think it was just 10,000 Needles.
100k would be overkill. You might as well have the Cactaur give you the finger. (Despite an obvious lack there of)
