I Luv this song and the Pioneers album. The Pioneers is the most true blue, fair dinkum music ive ever heard. This song makes my blood pump and it makes me so proud 2 b aussie :) bloody oath, they should play this b4 our troops move in on the enemy coz it makes me feel invincible. luv it!!
Had the album years ago...loved it then...love it now. Listening to A B (Banjo) Patterson's word set to music sends shivers down my spine and makes my hear swell with love for the country of my birth.
I reckon Tom Burlinson portrayed "the man" alright. Banjo did write "..and one was there, a striplng.." which implies that he was a young bloke, and I presume that after that epic ride he was considered a man amongst the other men-rightly so. Classic Aussie movie that I can watch over and over.Cheers
I also have the original album, "Pioneers". This version of 'Snowy River' is far better than Slim Dusty's.
I also have the 3 cd set, "The Great A.B. 'Banjo' Paterson Collection" by Wallis and Matilda (since re-released as; "The Great Wallis and Matilda") Disc-1 is the original 'Pioneers' Album.
Its a double album called "The Pioneers" released around 1980, it's bright Red on the outside with lyrics inside. It has this version of The Man from snowy, Clancy of the overflow, man from iron bark, Reverend mullineaux & some others. Its a fantastic listen.
Glad to hear that this reminded you of the young days as a child. Although for me, I think it mainly reminds me of Australian courage and determination. Thanks for watching and commenting.
A beautiful rendition of this epic poem...but the version by the late Slim Dusty is still the greatest!!

There was movement in the garden for the word had passed around
That the chook named Henriette had got away
And had joined the wild brush turkeys to lay eggs inside their mound
So all the cats had gathered to the fray
All the tortoiseshells and tabbies from the suburbs near and far
Had sprayed around the backyard overnight
For the Russian Blues love munching where the warm chook gizzards are
And the Shorthair snuffs the drumsticks with delight.

A most wonderous part of Australia. This poem doesn't do it justice but, it comes close to the very heart of our country.
The spirit of Australia is in this poem.

Can't say I'd ever heard this version before, but after the first couple of bars I was hooked, great stuff.

Strewth, what a classic, love it, best version of this brilliant Oz poem by far. I'm sure Banjo would approve.

If you have a peer-to-peer program, then it might be possible to dig it up. I only have this version, but you never know. Take care.
