CNN always shows its bias (no matter what). That interviewer was not interested (in the least) about all the positive aspects of doing this; her mind was set on trying to find anything negative. Testing my memory, I remember FIDEL CASTRO carrying a Remington Sport master (740 in 30-06 I think) as HIS weapon of choice when he was hiding in the Sierra Maestra's from Batista. If you are going to effectively defend yourself, then you must be prepared for the possibility. If you aren't prepared, you are at a low level of awareness and can be easily caught off guard. Situations like that make it easier for criminals to attack and it gets victims killed.

1. Air rifles are inadequate for large game.
2. Any projectile weapon is dangerous in the wrong hands; even an air rifle can kill a person if you hit the right place with a projectile, such as either of the temples on the head.
3. My contention was not about sport, but about self defense. An air rifle is a bad choice for self defense because hitting center mass won't stop an attacker and an air rifle is unwieldy for concealed carry.

A semi-auto AK-47 is no more capable than any other semi-auto rifle that has been used in hunting even back then, such as the M1 Garand.
Conversely, the M1 fires the Springfield .30-06 cartridge, which is more powerful than the 7.62x39MM cartridge that the AK-47 fires.

Testing my memory, I remember FIDEL CASTRO carrying a Remington Sport master (740 in 30-06 I think) as HIS weapon of choice when he was hiding in the Sierra Maestra's from Batista. He had standard 5 shot clips and a removable scope. He could have had any full or semi-auto at the time, but he chose a US made sporting rifle. At least that is what I remember seeing back then

I agree about an AK-47 for home defense not being ideal as the risk of an errant shot going through a wall is high.
A 12-gauge shotgun loaded with buckshot is a better choice. Devastating close quarters damage but no over-penetration risk.
As for someone busting into the house, that's why it pays to lock your doors. A door that is substantially constructed and installed gives you time to assess the situation and to get your weapon ready.
Prepare for it, but hope it won't happen.

The proper term is "assault rifle." Of course, this limits the scale to a specific type of weapons.
A military definition: a rifle capable of firing rifle rounds in full auto and/or burst fire.
No civilian can buy such a weapon unless licensed by the BATFE under the 1934 NFA and inventory is limited to weapons made and sold on May 19th, 1986 or earlier (Hughes Amendment, FOPA).
Semi-auto rifles aren't assault rifles under military definition.

Different states have different laws, but the federal law specifically states no fully auto weapons conversions and only citizens that have a specialized background check will have access to the existing weapons that are fully auto (which varies by state). I don't have a problem with law abiding citizens having ANY firearm available.

3- contrary to media lies, very FEW AK-47 in the USA are full auto. Most legal ones are semi-auto
4- The 12 gauge pump shotgun found in many US homes is deadlier close range than the AK-47. MANY common semi-auto hunting rifles (30-06 etc) are better for longer range.
5- The tech. differences between many 50 to 100 year old semi-auto rilfles and the Ak-47 are primarily COSMETIC.
6- MANY new hunting rifles now have pistol grips, muzzle brakes and removable clips, as a style preference.
