  • wow he is fast!

  • A handkerchief? Good idea! Ya never know when u might bust a nut whilst playing such incredible music! Nice!

  • None of the covers of this song adequately know the power of the part that begins at 2:20

  • I wish that I had the same ability to express my emotiones through a guitar like that... wow.

I literally have watched this like 50 times.

  • TEACH ME YOUR WAYS MASTER.

  • So I watch a lot of these videos endlessly because I try to learn his tabs and see something that I'm not sure how to do. But then I see how he does it in the videos and I'm just like, "Wtf how is that even possible." Then I quit. Not really, but damn he is good:)

  • What a great song!

  • Delightful : )

  • Love you man, you are great !!!

  • i love it at 1:27 when they show antoine's right hand...the movement is ridiculous

then starting at 3:00 it gets impossible.

  • Dunga dunga chuka chuka chuka dunga dunga chuka chuka chuka

  • i fuckn cried with this song :´( so beautiful and brings memories...

  • Brilliant!!....♫Logic

  • Antoine Dufour - Mother

Andy McKee - For my Father

    clearly parents matter to guitarists

  • @TechnicolorAurora For Mom, Watching Boats With My Dad, both by Buckethead.

  • @TechnicolorAurora And Buckethead's "For Mom", "Watching boats with dad" and "I love my parents" :)

  • what tuning is this!?

  • @Anim8edDeath The tuning to this song is: C#-A-E-G#-B-E (from low to high) Good luck bro! :)

  • @Anim8edDeath B-A-D-A-S-S

  • @Anim8edDeath DAEFCE is the tuning I know for a fact he used in Ashes In The Sea. It might be the same for this, but I've heard people throw out tunings with sharps in them and said it was what he used. It's definitely not standard anyways.

  • @WereRabbbit The tuning for this song is 'Csharp A E Gsharp B E' I was playing it on my guitar 5 seconds ago :P hope it helps.

  • probably the best piece of musicive ever heard to be honest !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Antoine Dufour is the reason I push myself so hard to excel at guitar. Sure, there will always be somebody better than me, but just sitting on my back porch tapping away while I stare at the pond really makes me feel home, content, and warm all at once. It singlehandedly helped my depression vanish. I only hope that one day I can make it look as easy and natural as he does. I owe him!

  • @Raquaable Now that's what I call a comment.

  • @Raquaable i understand you... i know how it feels

  • @Raquaable That was a very good comment. I feel the same way. I watched your videos... your Ein Leid song was great! ^_^

  • saw him play this live about a month ago and believe it or not its even more amazing in person.

  • 514913 views and 507874 views are viewed by me! :)

  • madafakinggg good :)

  • he must have gotten ALOT of sweets when he was a little boy...

  • @magolao not sweets, just pure love :D

  • its not called plucking, idiot. It's finger picking.

  • @FreakManni88 HOW DARE YOU MAKE SUCH A MISTAKE... I hope you burn...

    A genuinely beautiful song <3

  • @pkWreck Dude, I suspect he was kidding; he would have to have 26 separate accounts because YT has an automated "memmory" for each user's voting, etc. (etc.etc:-) And I agree, it's an aweosme piece of music!!

  • @voicetube I may or may not have been kidding myself...

Only joking i were seriously guy 8(

  • ok..i think i said that incorrectly..i was supposed to say i love the plucking..(i missed the 'don't')

  • not that I love the plucking..but this is how we roll....

  • Comment removed

  • love the facial expression..than the plucking...!

  • floating guitar?

  • @kr3w0804 he has a thigh support thing that attaches to the bottom of the guitar, dunno what theyre called but lots of classical guitar players use them

  • @kr3w0804 its an ergoplay my friend. kinda hard to see :P

  • Got that whole Buddy Holly look going but Buddy could not even touch your guitar. I have listened to and played with some of the greatest for 54 years. Son you are one of the best I have ever had the pleasure of listening to, Thank You for your dedication. You are in a league of your own,

  • definitely one of my favorite antoine songs ever...if not just favorite acoustic songs ever.

  • bEAUtiful! love the harmonics!

  • this is his best song i reckon

  • non diventerò mai come lui..

  • I read somewhere that he uses the bandana because it makes his guitar sound exactly the way he wants it to. Either that or he might be in a gang. Bloods Im guessing.

  • @tctbone

THIS NIGGA BE REPPIN! No, i'm joking.

  • @tctbone It's to mute a certain ringing sound that comes from the strings when you play hard and mute quickly. He has stated he hates this sound (it usually sounds out of key)

  • why does he have that red bandanna in the headstock?

  • @superdanlewis kuz he got swag

  • @superdanlewis It is to remove unwanted ringing sounds

  • Probably his Mother

  • Comment removed

  • bravo....bbrrraaavoooo...

  • I'd like to ask this guy so many questions bout his guitar playing...

  • Man i've been listening to your music for some years now. And this song is still kinda special to me n some kind of way, i say its one of your best. Keep it up antoine.

  • Very cool,

    very inspiring and fresh

  • WOW those harmonics!

  • Flawless.

  • Antoine I like that you and Andy both seem into Imogen Heap. Have either of you ever contacted her about collaborating. Seems like a different sort of virtuoso, but collaboration could churn out some great stuff.

  • In the middle of re-learning this :) love love love it...Happy New Year people!! :)

  • @madzangels happy new year! :D

  • En estos momentos, me gustaría ser tu madre

  • this guitar sounds amazing, but his new one sounds twice as good. i dont see how its possible:s

  • Tu mérites plus de succès que Mattrach ! (de loin :P)

  • Man this guy is something else. Wow. He plays well and the music is something I could listen to all of the time as well. In fact I do often. Some people play well and some people write well. He Does both! I have been trying to learn this since I got the tabs. I'm doing okay but still got a ways to go. I am a little past the harmonics. Sometimes I nail them, most of the time I don't. lol

  • "The handkerchief is kinda douchey" is a quote by a viewer on one of his other vids. I respond to this with: "Dude, this guy could set the guitar down and GO USE A DOUCHE, and there STILL wouldn't be ANYTHING douchey about him!" Contrats to Douchey McDoucheington for insulting the best musician ever!

  • dododododod dododod dadaada mmmmm pretteh

  • does anyone know the tuning?

  • @eviltreebranch Starting with the 6th string down to the first "C# A E G# B E" I think. lol

  • your teachers/ instructors must be proud

  • every one of this guys song has me dancing in my chair. lol in my opinion hes candyrats best. all of his songs have a flow like no other.keep jammin man

  • wtf 26 people

  • 26 people are retarded or something

  • A musica que eu mais gosto do Antoine...

  • wow amazing !!!!! I love this !! very beautiful! =)

  • forget your mother, antoine's mother is the shit

  • @Wcburg1 LOL

    -Brgr

  • @Wcburg1 LOL!!!

  • @Wcburg1 Ok, this comment was just stupid.

  • @Wcburg1 every single mom is amazing and unique in their own way bro.

  • "Mother" of antoine, "Father" of andy.

  • its a shame the highest ranked comments are based on some idiot's opinion about this song. when i first discovered this song there was some badass comment about a guy who was halfway around the world away from his family/friends and where he grew up, and when he listened to this song, it brought him home.

not trying to be emo or overly sentimental but that is what this kind of music is really about.

  • @wilfredisback fair enough old man

  • yep its good about like when Tommy Emanuel was 12!!! Doyle Dykes was 25. STILL I can see you as a great musician KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

  • i don't know who this Entropy56 guy is but whoever dare to say that this is bad are fuckin clueless

  • very good young man,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,keep up the good practice

  • 3:58

I swear the video stopped streaming. He froze solid. Barely moved *at all*.

  • Anyone think he looks rather like Frankie Boyle? XD

  • How the hell can he play like this... I'm just too impressed by him

I've been studying fingerstyle for 5 years and i haven't got 1/10 of dufour's technique,

    Shit i love you man

  • @NEWPAGE92 yep, durfour's kinda out of this world man

  • I would love to meet the woman who inspires him to create such a beautiful song

  • @airalert15 so would I... GIGGIDYGIGGIDYGIGGIDYGOOOOO

  • @airalert15 well it is called mother

  • @tshockley88 hahah yeah

  • @airalert15 I think it's his mom dude hahaha

  • @airalert15

Indeed. I can only hope that I've given as much to my son, that his heart holds such joy in his heart.

  • @airalert15

Indeed. I can only hope that I've given as much to my son, that his heart holds such joy.

  • i love this song something about it just moves me, its not very complex in comparison to his other pieces and doesnt have a very fast tempo but the melody... ah so relaxing and soothing. I reckon critics should look at themselves before critisizing someone elses work, this is a great song

  • Amazing!!

  • Great playing, and i love the tunes!

It seems to me that he holds a stonebridge guitar?

    Bless :)

  • Mr. Dufour is quite simply an incredible artist.

  • the finger picking at 2:28 is bad ass. i hope he gives bass lessons too because i definatly want him to teach me a thing or two

  • Dufour is my favorite Acoustic guitar player of all time. There -- I said it. This guy is absolutely phenomenal. What an incredible feel for rhythm and melody this guy is lucky to have.

  • @Notespompon check out Tommy Emmanual.

  • that was lovely

  • Antoine knows what's hot before it's hot.

  • All the people criticizing this piece in a negative way are frustrated musicians I can bet!!! I have never heard so much bullshit over something that beautiful! Structure bla bla bla!!!???? Just another way of saying "I studied in a conservatory or I know a bit of music theory but I cant do what this guy is doing and I feel jealous about it!!! Therefore it cant be good!!! come people grow up!!

  • People like Antoine can express music on an age old instument without reading of a sheet...It's called from the heart!!! If you notice his eyes are closed playin this passage..I just wish my right hand could do what his does...cheers all.....

  • How am i supposed to learn this when i cant buy these tabs. its killing me! i can play Catching the light and Into your heart. but i cannot figure this song out. can anyone help me out in trying to learn this song? like chord shapes. or scales that hes using. i have the tuning. if you can help me out send me a message please. it will be greatly appreciated.

  • 1:41 to the very end is my favorite part.

  • Comment removed

  • WoW! AN AMAZING STYLE no doubt ,,,tough to play twice the same every time.the recording quality is great too.,,,,,pro. Brett Lemos

  • it is uique, it comes from the heart, and it pleases! what more should music be? This is one of my favorite pieces keep up the great work! Thank you

  • 26 dislikes? Chuck Norris better not hear of this.

  • who didnt like this? ... probably some good charlotte-lover who can't understand REAL MUSICAL EXPRESSION

  • @mrtridente Let's be nice here. Good Charlotte is not a band to bash on. They consistently reinvent themselves. Talk about Justin Bieber or any other pop icon that always does the same shit to sell, more than actually make music.

    GC and Antoine FTW. Kthx.

  • @Zankotsu Just because it's new or different doesn't mean it's good. Take this song for example, it doesn't have any crazy shifts or anything, it emits the same emotion throughout. The melody of each phrase doesn't actually sound too different from the part at 2:23 (this part is the intro in the album version) and I think this song is amazing. Of course, just my opinion.

  • @jkshoujk If you say so, but still, they try to make something out of everything they make. I was just making a point that Good Charlotte is not only any 14-year-old fangirl band. That's all.

  • Comment removed

  • @jkshoujk Your crazy man. If what you think is good needs "crazy shifts" and parlor tricks then I don't think you know what good is.

  • Comment removed

  • @jkshoujk Well, I read your comment and I think you contradicted yourself.

  • Comment removed

  • I took the name of this song literally, and watching the emotion on his face while playing this, i wouldnt be surprised if his mother was deceased and this was dedicated to her. Its full of emotional content that gives me goosebumps.

  • fantastic, somply enjoyable <3

  • ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • Is this the same guy who plans on putting down the guitar down for good. And just plans on focusing on the people in his life. Cause they complain there he goes back to his room instead of being with his family. Someone said that. His name was Antoine...

  • This tune rules.

  • You do miracles with those harmonics!!

    Cheers! :P

  • This song makes my heart more peaceful, antoine thanks for this song.

  • when I think of a "MOTHER", I think of a human being who gave me life and brought me into a home with a father, a bed to sleep in, clothes to wear, food to eat, and all the love a human could ask for

  • Antoine, Andy McKee, and Don Ross, are probably among the best acoustic guitarists on the entire planet. That's not to say that other finger style guitarists don't have their technique, technique can be learned through long grueling hours of practice, ...but do they have song writing prowess? Or, more than that, are their songs beautiful and inspired works of genius? This is what Antoine, Andy, and Don Ross have going for them. Both technically mastery AND creative genius.

  • Got this DVD last week when I went to see Andy McKee live. Love the performances! Although, I do like this song played at it's original tempo..

  • i can evidently see that pretension is the definition for some people

  • He looks like Frankie Boyle here!

  • @AraDevine haha... well spotted... :P

  • Until I saw this video, I thought this WAS played on 2 guitars! Indescribable!

  • That is really amazing. I love the high harmonics he plays so effortlessly. This is world class. 5/5x555

  • Andy Mckee and Antoine Dufour leave me speechless..... amazing musicians and I love the path this music is taking...... I love enjoying this great music with people but I haven't found anybody who understands it like I do...... anyway thanks for the great music guys keep it up.

  • very nice, he is the best

  • whats the tuning on this one? dont feel like figuring it out >.<

  • 26 dislikes, we are enjoying a finely written novel while they are barely reading "see spot run." You are right, its the ability to enjoy the layers that make this song truly enjoyable.

  • @MrNateshouse

and I don't even play guitar and I'm enjoying this! So it must be solely the ppl on a bad day and the 'net trolls :)

  • [2] He's really talented and has spent large part of his life training to become that good. But for God's sake - it doesn't mean we ALL have to admire his music. This melodies he plays don't do anything for me, and to my ear he plays too many notes. And that's it - it's my opinion, it's subjective. I'm not a professional musician and I guess I'll never reach that level of technical efficiency but I still can and do have my own taste.

  • Ok, so I'm not impressed with this piece. Mainly because: 1) I prefer music written for more than one instrument. 2) Recently I prefer simplicity or even minimalism over a swarm of sounds.

Mark Hollis once said: “Before you play two notes learn how to play one note – and don’t play one note unless you’ve got a reason to play it.” I doesn't mean that I criticize this guy or suggest that this song is pointless.

  • @gasmask1985 you've explained your opinion and why you don't like the song and I can respect that. You're entirely welcome to your thoughts and feelings towards anything going on in this world, never let anyone tell you otherwise. Having said that I can understand where you're coming from, but then again look at what you've said, we can't criticize Antoine for making music the way he wants too.. It's his style and just as I've said to you, no one can tell him not to make music the way he wants.

  • amazing oh my god

  • First time listening and already I like it, that's impressive.

  • Anyone who says this piece hasn't got a structure cannot call themselves a true musician. This piece has repeated patterns, which are developed incredibly. And an amazingly textured coda. BOOM.

  • @chukkachukka Most people have a hard time comprehending music like this. It's very demanding on the listener, generally I've found you either have to be a musician to enjoy it or absolutely love music on a soul to speak level.

  • @xTLovex Very well put my friend!

  • @xTLovex n yeah very true.

  • - Antoine Dufour , just a genius. He's amazing. That's tha way you do music ' Congratulations '

  • i have to know what tuning this is played in! anybody know?

  • @123ishred The tuning for this piece is, from low to high, C#,A,E,G#,B,E

  • on bloods

  • Isto é que é música............

  • This is the song that inspired me the most from Antoine Dufour, I love the harmonics!.

Mr. Dufour needs more attention in my opinion.

  • love it

  • happy mothers day! hee

  • @Entropy you probably just copied and pasted a bunch of quotes. You're far too ignorant to write that.

  • @Entropy56 on YouTube though really? Get a life.

  • this is my favorite antoine song :3 and its REALLY hard to choose a favorite from SO much good songs, this man makes me fall in love with music over and over again

  • love this song...

  • this is so awesome. stupid fools disliked this ..

  • This guy has a lot of really nice guitars!

  • I love the way how you guys put all your feelings inside your play..

  • wow 27 people dont like this....i guess that many tone deaf retards saw this amazin video

  • dude is rediculous.
