Are those your's because I have two at home and the boy one is name is Jimmy and the girl one is named Charlotte but I used to play with Jimmy and when Charlottle came he started to bite me but they shake there heads and it's really cute when they do that but I don't mind if they bite me as long as they don't do it again?!

@Babe0492 I had two, one died three months ago after an infection. Lorikeets are nectar feeders, that's why they love your wet bread and honey. But it isn't good for them. Lorikeets are designed to eat nectar, not seeds. And bread is made from????? A few seeds here or there is good for them, but concentrated seeds, eg bread, clogs up their little intestines. Ask any vet.

I just came back from a trip to Sydney and I was amazed how friendly the wild lorikeets are, where I was staying had a massive avery with their domestic lorikeets and even the wild ones outside the avery come for attention.

Lorikeets are amazing and are fabulous pets I have one named Loki, he is beautiful, I think he thinks I'm his mum lol

We hand reared him he is almost 2 now. He is very spoilt, chucks tantrums wen he doesn't get his own way lol

how wonderful to see!! Is this a regular occurrence? And I bet to many it's not even a big deal since it's so normal in your area. We should never take for granted all the amazing things nature brings to us! - Here in NY parrots are not native, however we do have a flourishing flock of wild Quaker Parrots that live in Brooklyn. They survive the winter by building their nests on the electric poles. Still amazes me when I see them. No one knows how they got here..

If you're going to feed them, please buy the proper lorikeet nectar, powder or liquid. Bread is really bad for any wild bird, so is honey. You are slowly killing them with kindness.  Lorikeets can have a few sunflower seeds but are primarily fruit and nectar eaters.

I have one too. Her name is Nikki. She will be 2 on March 12, 2010. Yes, they are amazing birds, I love them. Imagine having flocks of them in your yard! It would be wonderful! I live in Toronto, Canada so we get sparrows, pidgeons etc. I love lorys!!

If they come to your balcony every single day, that means they've become depentant on you for food. This is not a good thing, if you move away, they won't be able to gather food for themselves.

Lorikeets don't eat seeds, they are on a liquid diet, thats why they are honey eaters, they need lorikeet nectar mix, they can't really eat honey either because it makes them go Crazy. But they are gorgeous, how friendly are they.

Seeds won't break their beaks, they love some seeds, but they can only handle a limited amout. In the wild lorikeets primarily feed on nectar so they don't naturally consume the sand/grit that most seed eating birds consume to help them break up and digest seed. But you probably already know that.

bread is really bad for rainbow lorrikeets it causes them to lose their feathers and other degenerative diseases-better off feeding them fruit like apples, pears, sunflower seeds...little bit of honey and fresh water

@fsburgos I would never leave the house if these beauties came to my garden! I do have a green nape lory named Nikki. She is two years old and I am crazy about her! I live in Toronto, Canada and we do have beautiful birds here too but nothing like you do in Australia! I love the wildlife in Australia it's amazing!
