This is great! I've been out of the country over 20 years, and honestly hadn't thought about any good memories (no offence implied at all) and then I see this. Now those were good times, used to go to a place called The Place. Anybody else!?!
Hey, thanks alot for posting this. I teach salsa now, and it's cool to see what shaped me as an underaged sneaker!
No mate, I'm same age as you and there was always splits, flips and air jumps.....if I was really flying on a good day I could spin.....I think some things were more fashionable in some places.......
....I'm just happy to find out that everyones still Keepin' the Faith.......AND bringing their kidz!
Only found this this afternoon.....there's a NS Radio on Live365.....
To all the old guys that I knew....happy to know you're all still there.
They have Northern soul nights in Retford (just down the road for you). Getting quite popular. Think it's first friday of the month in the Masonic Hall.
This is embarrassing. Someone help me out please as I am racking my brains to remember the artist and title of the track that was played prior to Billy Butler's "The Right Track" and after Carl Carlton's "Competition..." Thanking you in advance.
It was most probably the black fella, Carl from Mansfield near Nottingham here in the UK, it usually is. He is a terrific dancer and a lovely bloke too. The white guy in the black vest is Andy Holroyd from Nottingham - certainly show the kung Fu influence on Northern Soul Dancing with the release of the Hong Kong movies at a time when the scene was in it's hay-day here in the UK. Andy's wife made it thru to the last 6 as well.
You have to watch the other video of the competition and it shows Carl winning at the end (the kung fu guy was 2nd I think and he is good too). I met Carl in New Jersey at the gold soul event - he is really nice and told me he practices every day for a few hours - you can see how fit he is. When I used to go to the Torch the dancing style was more like Carl's (not like the Wigan dancers who have a different style - I call it walkabout!!).
Ah, I thought I was initiating the unenlightened :o). If you've met Carl then you'll know he's a smashing bloke not to mention a great dancer, especially for an old fella!! :o) You're right about that ' walkabout ' dance style as well, but each to their own I suppose. KTF in the USA!!
That's ok!! I enjoyed your comments. I was shocked when Carl told me his age! Which one is Andy's wife ? I think there are a lot of good dancers in this video. I enjoy watching the girl with the Union Jack shirt and others. Have you seen - NORTHER SOUL NUDE RESTAURANT 2006-12.16.3 Mosulkiko - there are some great tracks on it and I am trying to find out what they are (the only one I know is Crackin up ). If you can help me out I would really appreciate it! Thanks.
Andys wife is the lady also with a black vest top on and bobbed hair - She wins quite a few competitions herself - Andy used to put together the odd video, so perhaps they will pop up on Youtube some time?? I'm of to Dallas for a week in October - do you think I'll find a Northern Soul venue down there with the Good Ol' Boys?? - Somehow, I doubt it :o). I will search for the vid you mention - sounds interesting!!! Will feed some info back if I can
Have a good time in Dallas - I doubt you'll find any ns scene but you'll have a good time anyway (you might find some 45's if you are a collector). I'm going to Lanzarote with Soul in the sun in November. There's nothing where I live. Hope you can help with the other video. Thanks.
WOW!!

p.s. The track after Too Late is The Tempos Countdown (here I come) which is just before Billy Butler.

It was the "Too late" track that was eluding me. Many thanks for your response.
