If libertarians use authoritarian rhetoric and statist solutions, they will attract authoritarians and statists into the libertarian movement or else to use the libertarian movement to their own authoritarian/statist ends. It's impossible to get a different end result than the means that are used to attain it. I've heard individualautonomy claim that libertarianism has to be protected against non-libertarian Mexicans, but how can something be defended while destroying it's core principles?
You stated this perfectly. I would be happy to vote libertarian, except they are not libertarians. At best, just another version of the republican party. The problem I see in society is psychopaths being in government. Democracy fails because psychopaths are able to be glib, charismatic and lie their way to get elected. Psychopaths are drawn to power and money, unable to understand emotions, unable to feel empathy for another human. How can a psychopath represent anyone without empathy?
@ZullGostnu2 You also stated this perfectly... but I'm a bit biased as I agree with you. According to Cato data, most Libertarians (in their sample) vote Republican. I don't understand this. As a liberal with civil libertarian leanings, I don't see much that is civil libertarian about the GOP. Republicans only or primarily seem interested in the civil liberties of certain groups such as business owners or Real (white, Christian, etc) Americans.
