  • Almost 82 years ago. Wonderful sound, great old tune. And a great band.

All from that incredible decade, the 1930's.

I was born 20 years too late. But thanks to posters like you, I can enjoy it all again.

  • One of my all time favourite 1930 tunes-i am trying to get as many versions of this as possible!I believe it was an amateur song writer who won a contest with this tune-i think he was Scottish.

  • @mic33george ,I completely forgot about uploading this beautiful Hylton tune.

  • @Bigband78 It was interesting to see Hylton-the UKs premier show band at this time, was being released on US Victor.I dont get on you tube as much of late but great to find gems like this-many thanks.PS hope none of your dumped 78s were dance bands!

  • Fantastic record Lou! Thanks for sharing this.

  • @althazarr ,Thanks,Lloyd

  • I'm jealous of your 78 collection!!! Such rare gems and forgotten classics! What type of gramophone do you have?

  • Lorna, you have all those British bands.I actually only have about 5,000 78s and have dumped 100,000 over the last 20 years. If you go to my Dailymotion site and check The Victrola playlist you will see some of my gramaphones.

  • Very romantic with that Hylton's great style! Thank you Lou!

  • Alvaro, this is the best Hylton song I have found.

  • I love it!

  • Love anything with Jack Hylton! Do you have more of Jack you can post? Thanks.

  • Another great song! Thank you very much Lou!

    *****Rosalba

  • Rosalba,I love this song also.

  • The flowing glide across the floor in someone's special arms...a treat indeed! Thanks Lou for sharing your classic collection.

  • @idasynco ,Are you asking for the next dance?

  • Great post. Another British band - Harry Hudson's Melody Men - recorded this song. Perhaps this is the version roybo1930 is referring to.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • I was wondering,"Where is Corrie?".this was recorded in your home country.

  • @Corrie121 ,I just checked it out and it's not as good as this version,Thanks.

    Lou

  • @Corrie121 No I just thought of the record!! I`ts "Jay Wilbur`s Orchestra. IMPERIAL# 2334 . "The Chum Song" is on the flip side.

  • Wonderful! *****

    Thank you:)

  • This is such a lovely rendition. Thank you, Lou!

  • Very beautiful Lou...A wonderful arrangement both instrumentally and vocally!

  • @SpringtimeSkies129 ,I like it too.I had this on another record that sounded too noisy and found a clean copy at the show for $3.

  • lovely

  • OMG! Lou, I have not heard this version as of yet! I LOVE IT!!! I have this song on a English IMPERIAL ,( I`ll think of the orchestra after I get off the computer.) This video and song is just BEAUTIFUL! I love the slow atmospheric tone of this version. Thank You so much for sharing. P.S, When I think of the orchestra I`ll let you know, But for some reason or other it escapes Me at present.

  • @roybo1930 ,Let me know who that other band was.

  • @Bigband78 Lou, I just thought of the record and rememberd it`s by " Jay Wilbur and his Orchestra" The flip side is "The Chum Song" on a IMPERIAL 2334. I`m going to post it soon, My first attempt at posting did not go through. I did get a couple of songs sent to pax41. so I know i can post these things. Im fixin` to get a new computer at the end of this month, after I return from Hays Kansas.

  • @roybo1930 ,Tell Bob I said he should not use other peoples songs. He's just like the Cowboys using other teams players. JK

  • I enjoyed the music. The pictures were also interesting.

    ---------Ellen

  • Eva,I'm glad you liked it

  • You said it... lovely tune, Lou!

    Thanks!

    Doug --

  • Doug,I must have heard this tune 20 times and I still have not tired of it.

  • Thanks for sharing - Lou! My next editorial will "blast" - you know who! Your vid is super duper - fun, fun, fun!

  • Lana,I'm checking it right now and I wish other Americans would read your common sense columns.

  • Hylton/O'Malley a nice combination but they never achieved the recognition of Noble /Bowlly in 30s Brit music collectors' estimation.

  • Blakie,Pat O'Maller may not be exquisite but he does a fine vocal on this.

  • @bostonblakie I agree. No knock on O'Malley was intended.
