  • i absolutely love that color! i've always wanted an Australian Shepherd, but i think im going to aim for this color now. (:

  • are NO dogs BORN bobtailed? I looove the beautiful tail and would never cut it off!

  • @pikkparis Some Australian Shepherds are born with bob tails, but not all.

  • So pretty <3 <3

Are these good watch dogs, or at least naturally protective?

  • @WolfHybridxo

My aussie is the friendlist dog really, he's so nice to everyone, but still when some1 he doesnt know passes the front gate to the house he will start barking until one of the members of the family comes

  • @engeltal Ohh, well that's still great. ^-^

  • He is beautiful! You are so lucky. He even has his tail! They docked my puppy before I could say anything.

  • They are so much more beautiful with the tail I think!!!!

  • Absolutely beautiful dog! The colors are outstanding!

  • 8 pplz hate dogs

    probably cats

  • God I love their coats. The best most awesome looking coat a dog can have!

  • pretty backyard.

  • Magnificient red merle!

  • I just got a 5mo blue merle male, & he has a natural bobbed tail. However he has prick ears which AKC acknowledges happens once in a while. I could glue or tape them, but I like him the way he is. He is to be my companion, as well as help on the farm. Not for show. So ears arent that important.

  • She's beautiful, but with the tail, I almost thought that was a border collie.

  • pretty dog, but MAN LOOK AT THAT GRASS!

  • Beautiful! This one is a red merle right? Gorgeous. I love the tail also. I can not believe people actually dock such a gorgeous tail. Well some of them are born without tails i think. Beautiful dog though!

  • Beautiful dog and I LOVE the tail!

    Your yard is beautiful too!

  • I have an 11 week old Aussie Blue Merle named Comet. Has completely stolen my heart! He is such a mischevious handfull right now though LOL. His tail is docked.

  • what a beautiful aussie. mine doesnt have a tail.

  • you have a beautiful aussie here ^^ i miss mine.

  • I got my aussie yesterday and it was born without a tail. I wish he had it. But his beautiful color makes up 4 it! lol

  • the tails are usually docked when they are puppies...docking is done to many breeds.

  • @tsrox20 I thought docking was illegal?

  • aussies do have tails but nearly every one is bobbed so hard to see under there coat. they do not dock the tails.....they are born that way

  • @Jwashere619 Are they docked or just born with bobbed tails? because Some people say they are docked when they are pups and some say they are born with short tails.

  • @ChloeCrazyBabez pure breds are born with bobbed tails.

  • @Jwashere619 Ohhh they look cute either way :)

  • @Jwashere619 Very rarely. I bred these dogs before, and I personally have never had one natural bobbed.

  • @Jwashere619

    PUREBREDS are born either way.

  • some are born without tails too. all 3 of mine were born without

  • sehr, sehr hübsch;)

  • He is so cute-like ma aussie "Colin" with his wonderful, fullhaired tail.

I´m from Germany and here it is forbidden to cut the tail. That`s very good!;o)

  • aww...what a beautiful dog. I've never seen one with a tail before. I like the way that looks. I have four aussies and none of them have tails. Im pretty sure when I have puppies I'm not going to dock them either. I didn't realize their tails were so full and fluffy like that.

  • Most breeders will dock the tails in order to be considered a standard. Plus if it is a working dog or a show dog you will have to get it docked.

  • waa *-* whats the colour from his eyes? silver?

    5/5

  • aww

  • Anybody know where i can find an australian shepherd puppy that hasn't had his tail docked yet? Or pretty much the majority is docked..

  • Try ARPH...Aussie Rescue Placement Helpline...They have tons of dogs cross country that have tails. Tails vary from docked to natural bob to half to 3/4 (my dog) to full tail.

  • toller australian shepherd,echt süss

  • What a beautiful dog :) I love Aussies, I have a Rough COllie who I love dearly, but one day I will get an Aussie too :)

  • Great looking aussie, is it male or female

  • very beautiful dog :) also kind of unusual the tail isnt docked, but i also have one with its tail too XD

  • Mine has her tail too. They're so beautiful; I don't understand why people would ever cut them off. I also don't see how it can be legal and not considered animal abuse. I know that in the E.U. it's illegal to dock tails off of animals.

  • because they are meant for herding adn the tail can be a burden to them or whatever if their runnign through tall grass and whatnot. but if you dont have then herd or whatever then keep the tail :)

  • Yes, you're right about the reason for them docking the tails initially was due to herding. What I find insane though is that for an Aussie to be qualified to be a "standard" they HAVE to be docked, and very few show dogs do herding if any. Just had to rant. LOL!

  • well my dog does herding and it seems that he does just fine and dandy with his tail lol but i can see it being a burden

  • well it doesnt hurt the puppy to dock the tail if u do it properly. docking their tail shouldnt hurt them at all

  • well, when they are bread for show, they fall in the herding class, and to be in the herding class, they must look the same as a dog that would actually be in the field. this means no tail. my red merle has no tail, because he was originally bread for show, but was not wanted becuase he has one rose ear and one dorito shaped ear. i don't show dogs so i dont care about his ears, but tails get in the way, allways knocking stuff over,

  • Beautiful dog, it's nice to see another Aussie with full tail.

  • Love the tail. Wonder what my dogs would have looked like with tails...*cries*

  • awe :3

  • I love that you kept the tail.

  • xD I wish my Aussie still had it's tail when we got him but the breeder must've had it take off really early on in it's life which I suppose if people decide to do it, it's better to get it done early as possible.

Seeing how beautiful your dog's tail looks though... ~cry~

  • I'm sure you love your dog. That is all that matters to the dog. You see three legged dogs, they couldn't care less about their leg. Next dog you get, adopt a dog. I promise you will not regret it.

  • the breeders do it at 1 or 2 days old before the nervous system is fully formed.

  • @middlefingermedianet Keeping the tail, typically, isn't up to the buyer. Aussy sheps usually have a naturally bobbed tail. Breeders who dock the tail shouldn't be in business!

  • @middlefingermedianet same with me!! my aussie Ella still has her tail :)

  • nice yard.. reminds me of lara crofts front yard lol...

  • not very sporty, but cute !

  • thats a very nice dog

  • amazing how you still have those flower pots

  • @iplehguitar I agree my Aussie loves digging up flowers only thing bad she does lol she about 75% broke of it now though.

  • LOL! And the toy was quickly forgotten...

Australian Shepherds are wonderfully smart and I find it funny how they just can catch things really quick and get bored with it.

Anyways, lovely coat on your dog. ^_^ I've got a female black tri puppy that I love!

  • he is GORGEOUS.

i want an aussie so bad. i might have to steal him. :D

  • I hope you're kidding, because if you steal an Aussie, you break both the dog's heart and the master's. No fair!

  • Haha i funny when they sneeze

  • I love your garden and your dog, both beautiful !

  • i gotta red and a blue merle bel red raffs blue no body wonted bel so be took her in but this dog looks very simalar.. Both of mine are brother and sister both are missing markings on the left side of there faces.. nice doggs tho..

  • 0:33 "Maybe if I stare at it long enough, IT will come to ME!"

  • i love red merles i have a puppy named katie that is a red merle

  • cool urs has a tail i have a blue merle and everyones like wers its tail and im like...she ate it

  • I´m happy that cupping dogs is not allowed in Germany!!!

I love Aussies tails and all of the dogs how it is.

  • wow. that is ooonnneee nice yard you got there. luckyyy.

  • Cute! Ive only seen one Aussie with a tail in person and she was an adorable red merle. I think I prefer them tailless though.

  • my friends got an aussie. i want a minni aussie but i just got a new boston terrior puppy, so no mor dogs!=-(

  • So called "mini-Australian Shepherds" aren't truly Australian Shepherds. The breeders of these dogs are just riding on the current popularity of a noble breed. Sorry, but it's true.

  • @Elsbeth1540

exactly! it makes me sick. they are now trying to get AKC recognized which i pray they do not.

  • yep that's an aussie alright spends half their time playing catch and the other half licking themselves...at least thats what mine does he doesn't have a tail though just a nubbin haha.

  • My aussie's got a tail and all other aussies i've seen too

  • i got one no tail..just a lil stubb lol

  • Many Aussie pups are born with long tails, but the breeders chop them off while the the puppy is very young. It truly is a cruel practice... but, hey, babies have no feelings, right? WRONG!

  • dude, itz not like they take the pup, pick it up by the leg, grab a butcher knife and cutt the tail off. Many breeders spend alot of money to have it properly done. read a book and brush up on yer knowledge, hunny.

  • babies don't have feelings last time I checked. I've never seen a baby cry because it's mother died.

  • just cant get over how different they look with tails

  • A long, full tail adds beauty and balance to the dog's body. Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

  • Not true. Some Australian Shepherds do have tails. Depends on what the breeder decides to do. Most are docked, but in rare cases the breeder leaves it on for personal preference or at the purchaser's request. Oh and, too big to be a border collie.

  • jeez-do you make this comment on every aussie vid? Do a little research my friend! Aussie's have tails; their tails can be docked, bobbed, or full grown as in this case.

  • god i made 2 comments total. i didnt kno okay? i dont even like them with the tails

  • Some Aussies are natural bobtails; our latest puppy was. Many are born with lovely tails, as was Bink, and as was my favorite Aussie. It's all about breeding choices... line breeding, inbreeding, whatever... for features the breeder prefers. I hate the custom of docking. It's unnecessary, and it robs the dog of a means of communication, of balance, and of some stability.

  • @luvtolaugh1234

um...why are you trying to spread your false knowledge..it's not a border collie.

  • My Aussie looks just like yours!! Except w/o a tail.. Her namee is Jade or as we call her JJ!

  • You have such a nice green lawn! lol! AND A GORGEOUS DOG!

  • My Aussie is so cute and I love her so much. She has bad skin problems and I was wondering can anybody help me with a cure.

  • WOW YOU HAVE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL LAWN <3

  • i really love the breed where can i found out more about them what varieties how they compare to border collies etc

  • Find the ASCA website (Australian Shepherd Club of America) for breed standard, temperament information, and breeder list. Reputable breeders will require an interview and a contract before allowing you to purchase a dog.

Good luck finding the dog of your dreams. I have mine, a beautiful blue merle with two blue eyes and a sweet sunny disposition, and the ability to move over large sloping fields as effortlessly as the wind.

  • I had a red female and she was great. They actually make very good alert dogs as well. Bark at anything.

They need to work and do thier job. Buy about 5 chicken hens and cage them in the yard. Once a day let em out and be herded by your aussie. they love it.

  • dont they have to be trained to do that or is it in thier instincts. and isnt there a chance that they migt eat the chickens or kill them?

  • No its automatic. And they love the work. My aussie really took to the birds we had. It was an automatic reaction. I would let them out and point to where I wanted them. She would herd them there. No problem. Of course you can' turn your back. Its interactive till the time you put them away. Have fun. And free real eggs.

  • lol yeah I know about free eggs. But i didnt get the part where you say you can'turn your back define that

  • Once I was working mine. And I turned my back to do something for a minute, and when I was back to it she had killed one chicken. I think it was accidental, but I wasnt watching so I dont know. So one less egg a day.

  • i dont know about that, i have an aussie and we got ducks and she killed one of them. she was purebred too, akc certified and everything.

  • my aussie is almost 12 years old.. and still crazy hyper.

  • It is my understanding that the reason the aussies tail was originally docked is so the dog would not be distracted by it when in the course of herding animals. They are one of the smartest dogs and I love the breed. This aussie is beautiful!!!!

  • The tails were docked because of damage by livestock, if far out on trail and the tail were to get smashed or broken the infection could risk their lives.

  • You have a beautiful Aussie! I am very jealous. My Aussie is 14 weeks and has a docked tail, he is gorgeous, but I like the full tail better!

  • What a pretty boy! He's a Red-Merle right? Gorgeous dog! I love his full tail, and blue eyes! ^^ He seems like a ery happy dog!

  • such a cute breed! i rly want one!

  • Very cute i have a blue merle aussie too, Mine is 15 weeks. he scatches himself to so we brought him to the vet to see if he had fleas and he dident. he just likes scatching himself or he was ichy skin

  • waw nice dog!!!

  • have fleas?

  • Your Aussie is GORGEOUS!!! Where did you find an Aussie with a tail? Did you go though a breed or rescue?

  • BCs are not docked and they herd too. Removing a tail removes a major communication tool for a dog!

  • how so?

  • Dogs communicate through body language with other dogs (and with us too actually) and their tails play a big role in this-it is like tying your hands down whilst you talk. Docking is fashion-especially since most Aussies don't work these days, if that is your reason (and how do you explain the fact that Collies are not docked?)-if a dog is born a natural bob, that is one thing-otherwise I believe it should be left there!

  • No, docking was done as a utilitarian method of eliminating problems with the breed working in the dense brush in the southwest. And as mentioned above, many have natural bobs. I guess if they were ITALIAN shepherds then they would need to talk with their "hands" (read tails) ;). What the real shame is that the AKC got their mitts onto a terrific breed and it has become something entirely unrecognizable.

  • I'm concerned with the growing popularity of a breed that belongs "home on the range," or, at least, with plenty of room to run. The problem is greedy breeders who will be likely to overbreed for "cute" or unusual, such as the merled coloring. Mate two merles, and you risk a puppy that is deaf or blind, or both... a "lethal white." Docking: If there's a tail, leave it. Other herding dogs have tails! Dock a tail, rob a dog of balance and stability; then they must compensate.

  • The reason breeders dock the tail is so they don't get in the way while healing cattle or for any other livestock they herd. I like it both ways though. I like it when the tail looks like your dogs tail but when it's straight like a labs, then that doesn't really look good. But I really like the tails when they look like a little bear butt. But anyways, that is why they dock them. Same with Blue Healers.

  • Lovely dog! I too have an Aussie, blue merle, with his tail. I love Aussies with tails, and your dog is just so beautiful:)

  • Aussie's aren't supposed to have tails.

  • All dogs are supposed to have tails, but thanks to our silly breed standards which call for the tail to be docked, most breeders feel they had better dock the tails or else their dogs would be considered "non-Aussies". An Aussie with a tail is a beautiful dog!!

  • The tails were removed to reduce the risk of injury to the dog when herding. The tail could be stepped on. Most of our pet Aussie's probably dont heard large animals (at least per our command) so the presence or absence of a tail is unimportant. I like mine without a tail, it makes her look more stodgy.

  • and you explain the natural bob tail how? my line of aussies are natural bobs, only rarely do I have to bob them......guess that they didn't get the memo about needing tails

  • Breeders tend to favor breeding two natural bobtailed dogs; that's your explanation. Many Aussie pups are born with long tails; AKC nor ASCA penalize for tails. Nowadays, the bob tail serves no purpose other than for show. Our puppy was a natural bobtail, but the breeder bobbed his tail down to a knob. Our first Aussie escaped this cruel practice, and lived out her days with a beautiful tail like Bink's. Tails help w/balance, and are good flyswatters, as well.

  • not true both AKC and ASCA calls for a natural or docked tail no longer than 4 inches, (any longer should be considered a fault) I don't agree with docking I just wanted to point that out.

  • yeah they are. Some are born tailless. But most are born with tail. In many countries it is considered animal cruelty to dock, and often docked dogs aren't allowed to show in those countries.

  • @icebergbalky

you're not supposed to be dictating what should and should not happen. you aren't supposed to talk about Aussies.

  • what a stunning dog-I so prefer them with a tail-mine does not have one either and it is the only thing that I would change about him

  • My Aussie doesn't have a tail. :-(

  • pretty dog iam glad to see another aussie with a full tail my Fornesto, the Magnificent, has a full tail that he is very proud of

  • The Tail Not Docked Looks So Much Better!! *_*

  • that may be the most perfect lawn I have ever seen...cute dog too ;)

  • Haha, I noticed that about the yard too. And the birds singing... What a nice place! lol. And yes, that Aussie is gorgeous. My Aussie doesn't have his tail, and I've been wanting to ask the people I adopted him from if it was docked or naturally bobbed. My guess is that it was docked. But I don't really mind it, I think he's got a cute little butt! =P

  • beautiful dog we just got an aussie male

  • sweet 'nd loliq gell? xD
