Our war of the fifties was the Korean War. And yes, I am a Vietnam veteran. All gave some, some gave all. And the beat goes on. Rich man's war, poor man's blood. That's why this song is still as important today as it was in the 60s and 70s, when we were active in Nam. It hadn't come out yet in the 50s.
When Vietnam came along, I was the son of a barber and a waitress in Montana. I was a damn fortunate son to have the parents I had, but not so fortunate when it came to Selective Service classification. I was 1A and was selected to serve. I was fortunate not to be injured or killed. Many weren't. All gave some, some gave all. This is the most important song CCR ever performed.

The song was not really an anti-military song but rather an expression that is only the poor and lower classes sons that are sent to war. I was drafted in late 68 and could have gotten a deferment since I was in college; but felt it was not fair to let a poor person go in my place. I spent 14 months in that hell and it was the songs of home that help me get through the nightmare!
@dbworld54 I was one of the poor and was destined to be drafted with an unholy lottery number which guaranteed my passage into the realm of the war. Being the wily SOB that I was I joined the navy with a promise of an an advanced avionics curriculum. I spent 8 years in, almost all at NAS Oceana or in school in Millington, TN. No regrets. Didn't want to shoot anyone and didn't want anyone shooting at me.
I was in 2nd Battlion 25th regiment 4 Div near Pleiku and Quang Ngai Provinces Nov. 68 till Jan. 70 14 months of pure hell. I remeber the ambush night some were quiet as church and other we were running through the jungle for our lives. I wish another of the rich kids did his fair share so you might not had to go. I dont regret what I did and I am proud of my service.

When Vietnam came along, I was the son of a barber and a waitress in Montana. I was a damn fortunate son to have the parents I had, but not so fortunate when it came to Selective Service classification. I was 1A and was selected to serve. I was fortunate not to be injured or killed. Many weren't. All gave some, some gave all. This is the most important song CCR ever performed.

The song was not really an anti-military song but rather an expression that is only the poor and lower classes sons that are sent to war. I was drafted in late 68 and could have gotten a deferment since I was in college; but felt it was not fair to let a poor person go in my place. I spent 14 months in that hell and it was the songs of home that help me get through the nightmare!

@dbworld54 I was one of the poor and was destined to be drafted with an unholy lottery number which guaranteed my passage into the realm of the war. Being the wily SOB that I was I joined the navy with a promise of an an advanced avionics curriculum. I spent 8 years in, almost all at NAS Oceana or in school in Millington, TN. No regrets. Didn't want to shoot anyone and didn't want anyone shooting at me.

I was in 2nd Battlion 25th regiment 4 Div near Pleiku and Quang Ngai Provinces Nov. 68 till Jan. 70 14 months of pure hell. I remeber the ambush night some were quiet as church and other we were running through the jungle for our lives. I wish another of the rich kids did his fair share so you might not had to go. I dont regret what I did and I am proud of my service.

Amazing Pics. During the war in Vietnam people could actually see and hear from honest-to-God journalists and war photographers. Now we get embedded Fox "News" prostitutes and the occasional silly Youtube music video from bored G.I.'s.

@VVDude19 I do it because somebody has to. Im in the Army. Rangers lead the way. Marines I know admire the Rangers because the 75th go in and rescue them and rescue navy seal and teir one operatives. Thats just me. There are people who coward in fear, then there are those who stand and fight not for the money or glory, just because its the right thing to do. That is me though.
