heres the physics, need to hit it really hard hence the sprint up to it and need a good distance away from goal to enable the ball to slow down a little. Initially the ball will experience turbulent flow, with turbulent flow the ball wont bend but as its slowed with air resistance the flow past theball will turn to laminar, where once the ball starts to spin its gonna feel lift pushing it towardsthe goal.

@Mario98ism If he'd kicked it over the wall it would have had to have a higher trajectory and would've taken longer to reach the goal, giving the goalie more time to react and maybe save it. you also can't get as much power into a higher trajectory or the ball won't dip enough and you end up blasting it over.
