lol this guy thats accusin everyone said i was probably american too.
Im actualy australian and just because i think shakespeare is irrelevant doesnt mean im immature. Id love to see you run your classes if you insult kids for stating their opinions mate.
P.S i am pretty immature in personality but not when it comes to interlectual topics.

I so hate this production. The cheap-o "minimalist" sets. Holm's awful, screeching, scenery chewing, half-dimensional Lear. A runt Lear with a squeaky voice. Terrible. Compare to Olivier, Hordern, Scofield, even McKellan. This is just torment to suffer through. Blech!
Ian Holm is the perfect King Lear. "You do me wrong to take me out of the grave...." Wow just so powerful and full of appropriate anguish. I will definitely need to find this recording to watch the full version.
and as for the comment drama...is that really necessary? Literature is meant to be enjoyed by all...enough said.
well Arent u an angry little camper. i dont care where ur from , u still are putting down americans, who gives a fuck if ur teacher. just because ur a teacher doesnt mean ur right about everything. u fucking retard how can u speak about millions of teenagers when u only teach what? about 30 of them. so shut ur face and get a new job if ur thats repressed!
I think this production would have to be my favourite out of all the Lear productions I've seen. Such great acting throughout it. I also like the decision by the director to make the settings basic. Methinks it a creative touch.
angelxscenekid....since when has it been possible to teach teenagers anything..... lol...'Good and bad, I defined the terms, each one of the somehow....ahh....but I was so much older then,. I'm younger than that now....(Bod Dylan)
You would teach teenagers this "stuff" because Shakespeare was brilliant and very important, not just because he wrote fantastic plays, but because he revolutionized literature.
I'm a teenager and I'm loving studying Shakespeare, in fact most of my class do as well, so I don't see why you wouldn't teach this to teenagers lol.

You must be American. American children tend to be very immature in comparison to others and hence lack the wisdom or experience to fully understand or appreciate Shakespeare. Shakespeare is a study in human nature and a study in language, and the love of words and how to use them creatively.
They shouldn't teach this to American children because quite frankly it's a waste of time and resources. Let them learn it when they get older or not at all as seems most likely.
And I am an American teenager studying this and I LOVE it! This is my favorite Shakespearean play, I think. His Scottish play and Hamlet are good, too. My classmates like it as well, so it is not a waste of time! We certainly are able to comprehend its importance as well as anyone, so nationality is of no consequence! Anyway, it would be a great disservice to him to allow an entire country to remain ignorant of his genius.
racism isnt exactly the way to go about it surely? people teach shakespeare to teenagers because he was a very important literary figure, one of the best. some like him, some don't. it's as simple as that.
im irish you prick. and all my class love shakespeare. shakespears genious should not be hidden. but revealed to the entire globe. he is magnificent. and you are a stupid little anti-social racist basterd.

I wasn't replying to you and considering I live in America who the hell are you to tell me i'm wrong ? America isn't a race dumbass and even if it was how the hell can I be a racist if I'm talking about my own people ?
I am a teacher and most of my students want leave school early and go on welfare or fake an injury and collect some freeloaders check from workmans comp.
Seriously, STFU and don't tell me my business like you know me.
You're seriously mistaken, my friend. I am an American college student who has studied Shakespeare in every highschool and college English class I've ever had, and to this day I am still studying Shakespeare. In fact, I'm watching this for a 400 level class. If this is the way you feel about youth, maybe its best you shouldn't be teaching them. I sure wouldn't want you teaching my children you negative, condescending, narrow minded ass.
I didn't think he seemed sane or insane. Just incredibly, almost psychotically vain and imperious. His initial denouncing of Cordelia is like an Afghan mullah.
I love the part where Lear snarls. XD

If Highland Barbarian ever became a movie, the girl who plays Cordelia would make a wonderful Cecily.

I always thought Holm just seemed too sane in this production, too self-aware.
