This is by far the better of "Valerie" than the Mark Ronson version, more feeling in this. The orginals of songs are always better, this is another example. "Tired of hanging around" was a very good album. Only got the album because of this song, but I gotta say the album as a whole is ace. Plus the drummer is an Evertonian :p

Indeed. I think this version's the best, but; while sounding a little generic, Ronson/Winehouse's version still sounds lively. The version's also better for playing a trombone part in a brass/sax section in the song. Fuck yes playing this at my first real gig last night.

But yes, if Ronson hadn't took a brass section to this, even that would have made the song suitably smoother for Winehouse. Hell, keep the brass and make it more stately/sleazy than peppy, is my take.
