  • Freddie decided to play golf on the day of this concert

  • This appears to be from the Basie at Carnegie Hall concert of March 20, 1981. Freddie Green was mysteriously missing with an unexplained malady. This is available on DVD. And, yes it is In A Mellotone (spelled that way by Ellington).

  • It sounds like "In a mellow tone."

  • Thank God. LLOOLL It is "In a Mellow Tone"

  • amen, sounds like it, as tis in a mellow tone. a dam fine version at that

  • The Count passed on 4/26/84

Freddy Green died while performing in Vegas 3/1/87

  • Thx. :-)

  • Sounds very thoughtful. They did the same for me when I left NBC in 1984, but they put the chair over an open manhole on 6th Avenue, and then invited me to sit on it.

    Regards

  • LLLOOOLLL

  • Fredie Green played with Count Basie gfor ay least 35 years

  • OK - Why is the chair vacant?

And the date of the recording?

No one seems to think that's important (Weird).

Thanks for posting - it's excellent.
