@trumpetsownu94 They got along fine the entire time they were together. Oscars aren't violent. No fish is violent. Some are aggressive. When you keep two fish of similar size together since they were small, they seem to get along better.
lol i didnt know what an oscar was when i got one, i kept it with other baby fish similiar to its size like angelfish, etc.... one year later i woke up and the only fish that were left was the Pleco and the Oscar :)
It is people like you who are ruining the great hobby of fish keeping. "Let them go"!?!?!?!?!? Are you kidding me? Releasing a alien spices is illegal and helps states BAN some exotic fish imports. Learn about stuff before you do anything. Because of people like you, Snakeheads, Piranhas, and even some reptile species are not allowed as pets in some states.
He said that he let the bass go which depending on where he lives could very well be a native species. If he's in the US it's native pretty much everywhere. Maybe you should actually read what a person writes before you jump down their throat. I'm with you as far as the idiots that release exotic species into areas they are not native. People need to be responsible as pet owners unfortunately we have a large percentage of morons who could care less.
Hey I have a few questions, how often do you do tank maintenance? What and how many filters do you have? Do you think people that say you need at least a 55g for one oscar are crazy? I just want an Oscar bad but my parents won't let me get anything above a 30 gallon.
@Bassintheweeds Once a week. I don't have this tank anymore. Now I have a 55g with an Aquaclear 110 and a 50. I let the bass go. You can get away with a 30 gallon for a single oscar.
Oscars will grow to 17 inches long(I have 3 of them). An Oscar has to have a tank at least 55 gallons but will still need to be upgraded after a few years. I had to upgrade mine from a 55 to a 125 gallon.
@Bassintheweeds no a 55 is the SMALLEST tank you should have for a oscar or else your asking for HITH even a 55 is pushing it because when the oscar gets bigger it will be longer than the tank is wide causing spinal problems
@shroomingnewman What do you want me to do? Make sure they eat at the exact same time? And there is no intimidation going on. I know I'm just going to get another stupid reply from you so I will just block you. What is wrong with people like you? You ruin the internet.
@519trav I took it home in a 5 gallon bucket with water from the lake (make sure you get some and set it in the shade because a 5 gallon bucket will heat up fast and you don't want too hot of water). What do you mean by regular water? You have to treat tap water or let it sit for a couple days to get the chlorine and chemicals out. I use Nova Aqua to treat my water. I put him directly into the tank.
@TheinfamousJoker You can. It depends how long, until it gets too big. You will need a heater. 75-82F is perfect for lmb (they thrive in the wild at 82F).
oscars have the coolest personalities i had mine for years.....but i never attempted to put any other fish in with him because they have been known to be very agressive with other fish and will even kill another oscar....you seem to have gotten lucky with a little less agressive oscar
Nice fish, I've stopped keeping bass and instead focus on smaller guys like bluegill and green sunfish. Why? They're tank-busters. Just like oscars. They need a lot 'elbow room' and eat like a mastiff and crap like one. But at least they let live plants continue living in relative peace. Anyway, awesome carnivores and nice tank!
Well you may have to get rid of one lmb after a while because they DO get big. It could get a little crouded with 2 pumpkin seeds and 2 Oscars and 2 bass. Just to be safe I would get one Oscar and one bass. 180 is pretty big so you might be able to do it with two of each but I am not sure. I feed them freeze dried krill and freeze dried blood worms. I let the bass go because it got too big.
@MegaBasspro123 So you mean you just want to have a pumpkinseed tank? 180 would defiantly be enough for quite a few of them. 4 or 5 full grown ones probably could live comfortably in a 180.
85 F in the summer and in the winter I put another heater in and crank both of them and it is about 75. I made the mistake of putting my tank in front of a window.
you could feasibly but i wouldnt keep more than 1 oscar and 1 bass in a 55. you could grow them out to a considerable size, if you put the time and effort in with water changes religiously but in the long term i would go larger. but if you dont mind stunting them to 70-80% of their adult size than id do it.
nice tank, little small, but they seem to be happy, at least you keep the water clean and feed them a lot :) i have a long finned alboni oscar, and i have been debating of putting a largemouth in with it in a 55 gallon tank, anybody have any suggestions?
I wouldn't keep anything other than goldfish in a hexagonal tank. You probably could put one in there but I could see some problems. A bass is better in a long shallow tank instead of a deep skinny one.
You can just fill a bucket with tap water and wait at least 24 hours and then the chlorine won't kill the fish. There is stuff that you can pour into the water and that gets rid of all the chemicals instantly, which I recommend picking up if you are going to start an aquarium. You can find the stuff at any pet store. I think one brand is Aqua Nova.
I catch them, put them in a 5 gallon bucket with clean water (not tap) and keep them cool. This one took about an hour to get home. But I wouldn't try any longer.
those are some cute little fish. i actually catch largemouths lol. my biggest was a 16-17 inch. i like that little yawn it does in the beginning of the video.
Its actually 78 degrees temperature is preferred for Oscars. So around 80 degrees would be just fine. Yes largemouth bass can live in an hot area and freezing temperatures
Thank you. There are largemouth in southern Florida where the water temperature rarely goes below 75 degrees. And you know what? There are people catching oscars and largemouth in the same bodies of water. So what does that tell you? lol
Nice fish! I just caught a largemouth bass from the river the other day and i have to say they are cool fish! He is already devouring some of the smaller fish in the tank i caught along with him!
Not sure why some people think Largemouth bass can't be kept in an aquarium. I had one for 4 years before I let it go because I had to move. They are fun pets, but they take alot of food. They're ok when they're young, but when mine got big, it wouldn't let any other fish cohabit with it even in a 75 gal. It would either eat them or kill them. Even cleaner fish and freshwater crabs. If you wanna keep one long term, prepare to catch your own food down the road, and give him his own tank..
Regardless of the tank size, do you seriously think this is a good set up? the bass is a temperate water fish, the oscar is a tropical water fish. They are both territorial.
I'm not saying largemouth bass can't be kept in aquariums. I've seen it done before. The main differences were that it was a 10ft+ display tank, and it only contained temperate water fish.
Well it hasnt failed yet. Largemouth prefer 80-82 dagree water. They dont fight. And I am not planning on keeping them both in this tank. So please tell me why you go around youtube bitching about things.
Huh? Oscars go up to 85 and bass are proven to like and thrive in 80 to 82 dagrees. Dont beleive the old largemouth fishing rumors about water temp. Bass become lethargic in 75 dagree water when a cold front comes in during the summer.
Hey man, just subscribed. Love your airgun and hunting vids, and I love fish. Just wondering, how big is that tank? It's obviously not too small, because if it was, the Oscar would never have grown that big....
Yea man I was going Oscar fishing tomorrow but it is too cold and they are not that active in weather like this. As soon as it gets hot again, I am back putting up more videos.
2 of my favorite fish to catch in 1 tank... BRILLIANT! I say the Oscar kicks that Largemouth's ass by a lot. They are so aggressive. You keep them as pets, but I fish for these 2 species. Watch my videos and the video reply of my Oscar catch.
Lol they have only had one fight and knocked the thermometer of chasing eachother around. They get along pretty good. Trust me, I fish for largemouth all the time. I wish I lived were the bass get 3 times as big as one in the north at the same age, and were oscars can live.
I caught the largemouth. I think that is the only way you can get one. I baught the oscar and when they are 2 inches at the pet store they are about 12 bucks.
