I was 10 when I it braces and now I'm 11 and I still do. Braces dot hurt when they are being put on but when they are done the first week or so will hurt badly because they are moving already. You get used to it, but someways you will wake up and your teeth are sore. When they tighten your braces it only hurts the next day and that pretty much it. Hope that helped people understand :)
@imd1218 I never thought they hurt that bad. I've gone a while with them (6-7 years), just got them off last year and it wasn't as painful as everyone says. The only thing I would suggest is ask the doctor for some wax just in case your cheeks get rough, but other than that, you'll forget about them, or at least I did.
@misschloethecool - the blue stuff is used on the back teeth (molars) to open the bite slightly. This prevents the upper front teeth from hitting the bottom braces.
@smile4meist Im getting braces in a month! Well whatever color you like you choose. Dont choose yellow because it makes your teeth look yellow. Dont choose black because it make you look like you have cavities. They dont hurt, they are just a little sore for a few days. Have fun getting them on! I know I am excited!

@bubblegumkiwi123 - The giant white thing is called a lip retractor. It does not hurt. It is meant to hold your lips back away from your teeth while the braces are being placed. It will only stretch as far as your lips will allow it to so, don't be afraid that it will hurt. I'm excited for you! Make the most of your braces...it will be worth it in the end :-)

Yes, the blue "build-ups" do take some time to get used to. It is best to start with softer foods then move up to foods that require more chewing. I assure you that you do get used to them in time. :-)
@MegaDcollins It doesn't "Hurt". The most umcomfortable part is when they put the metal things on your molars because they have to squeeze it on. Your teeth do become core after a few hourse, so a softer food diet is more comfortable.
@MegaDcollins Well, you cannot chew your fingernails. It can either dislode a wire or break something. Get an online list or a list form your ortho. to see things you can and cannot eat. Use common sense on things that aren't on a list. If food or something does get caught your ortho. will either have to replace the peice or get it out some other way wich can get expensive and painful.
@moinkiias It takes about 45-60 minutes to bond the brackets, place archwires and go over your care instructions. As you can see, we do not use shots or drugs because there is absolutely no pain involved in placing your braces on the teeth!

They put that Blue thing on my molar and it SUCKED! I Couldn't eat anything, it took me forever to try and figure how to chew with it on.
