*Depends on where you live in the world*...here is what I mean. If you live in Europe and your TV is a SCART capable tv then yes you can benefit from the AVGA card as those tvs are RGB capable (via the SCART). HOwever, if you live in North America then you are out of luck as our tvs (NTSC) ones come in Composite/Svideo/Composite/DVI/HDMI...the first 3 are for older tvs and are in order of increasing quality.
For true arcade pictures...you can pair your AVGA with either
a CRT old style computer monitor that supports 15khz (like presentation monitors used at tv stations) or from a place like XGAMING.Com or a vew other vendors that still sell them.
Failing that...you can pair your AVGA with an LCD capable of 15khz but using pixels it will be blockier etc.
No, you just need to change the orientation of your monitor in the software...scanlines don't change on a monitor they stay consistant...IE scanlines that run left to right when horizontal still run left to right horizontal (which when orientated vertical would be top to bottom).
i have an arcade screen, with a jomac chassis and it only runs on 15khz now.
Ok ill get my screen in and ill finish it up, and do a vid reply. and show you what i mean, the chassis i have can do the 2 res. 15khz and the 25khz. but cant run the 31khz that is directed from a normal card!
So you would need either an older presentation style PC Monitor (not very common) or an arcade monitor capable of doing 15khz modes. Or if you are in Europe you can use a SCART capable tv.
hey thats ok man, ah i have got them all set to direct draw. i just dont get how you can say have the desktop at say 640 by 480 and then you open a game and you set it to the native res of say 300 by 270 it wont cover the whole screen. cuase it is still in the 640 by 480 size and then the game is small.
any chance you could do a tute on setting up say one game on mame at native res and showing it boot using the full screen. ???
Sure I can. Here is another question for you in the meantime. What monitor are you using? I am using a Wells Gardner D9800 which is a tri-sync monitor...meaning it can switch between 31khz (640x480 & 800x600) and lower resolution 15khz modes (240x226 etc).
If you don't have a monitor capable of displaying 15khz modes then the AVGA won't benefit you.
Sorry for the late response Kezza069. To answer your questions, no you do not want to stretch with graphics. The original graphic modes are 1:1 pixel.
I also run my desktop at a higher resolution 800x600 but each game has its own .ini file for its unique resolution. Have you checked to make sure that you are using Direct Draw and not Direct3d?
mate, this is the best run through of the arcade vga card. GREAT work
so finding the arcadevga res exe is great. my only question is, when you are in mame and setting up a game, do you have stretch with graphics? is this meaning the arcade vga card is taking controll and auto detecting the best res?
Becuse i have mine set with the bee 640by 480 and when i out in the size for a game the screen when booting the game it is very small. tat is without stretching off!
Do you know if you get good quality using the arcadevga hooking up to a regular tv or computer monitor? Thanks.
