@Desiqnnn well, be sure the pre-last numbers are the same in the IP as in the default gateway, only the last ones may be diffrend (if it won't work, set erything back like it was so you automaticly get an IP)

You know that you just set a static private address on your router interface subnet. You will still get a dynamic public address from your ISP. This public address is the one actually used to connect to the net via the router which probably connects to a modem(or is a modem also). You could have just increased the lease time on your router. Or even set it to static there...

@HomestarRunner20X6 you're ISP doesn't like it when you do it, but if you have a cable that connects to your computer just connect it to your computer to get Internet, and when u want to go wireless unfortunately just turn off the static ip!

your ip address needs to be on the same subnet as your router and vice versa for example say if your gateway address is 192.168.5.1 then your ip address needs to be 192.168.5.xxx. xxx means a number of your choosing between 2 and 254

Wel actually you can, you can always download unlimited torrents from torrentportal, mininova etc, but if your ports are open (by setting up a static IP address) you just get a way higher download speed. Mine went from 80 kB/s to 560 kB/s
