He manipulated Russia and America into war with help from Makarov. The war was his chance to prove that he was still a capable general in the eyes of the public. The data retrieved from Makarov's safehouse would have implicated Shepard in the airport massacre so he had to dispose of Ghost and Roach.

guys who ask "can the knife miss on Shepherd?" it doesn't i have tried to trow it up in the air, but still it get in Shepherd's eye, its the only thing you can kill him with and if u miss he don't get killed so you have to hit him, that why and it ALL the time in the eye, not in the neck or something else...

You CAN'T miss Shepherd, this is a scripted event in which you will either hit Shepherd right in the eye if you target him at all, if you don't target him, the knife won't be thrown.....

There has been some confusion about that, but no, Gaz is not in the game....

Some people thought he was back because they had seem to have heard his voice which is correct, the voice actor that did Gaz his voice was indeed back, but as Ghost.

So no.....Gaz is dead.....unless he suddenly appears in MW3 (but he probably won't, unless IW decides otherwise)......

@Thiefje well thats not completely true, do you really think iw would just get lazy and decide to use the same voice actor? gaz is ghost. he got shot in the back of the head and thats why he wears a mask. theres a couple other hints im sure you could find if you look em up but it doesnt matter cause he's dead for sure now.

@Thiefje There is that official comic book "Modern Warefare 2: Ghost" that is focused in Ghost life before he join the TF141. It's said that it explains how, and why, he started to use that mask and named himself Ghost.

I haven't read it yet, but it should settle down this doubt of yours....

The game has a script to make sure you can't throw if you don't point it at Shepherd....and ones you do aim at him that it fly right into his eye....
