  • @LoneKook Right you are.Politics in drag racing is nothing new. Lets see how long the NHRA lets the GM racers use Pontiac bodies, now that Pontiac is long gone.

  • EVER NOTICE FORD AND CHRYSLER WERE THE ONLY CARS THAT WERE BANNED OR HAD TO RUN MORE WEIGHT TO RACE IN NASCAR AND DRAG RACING. 427 FORD IN NASCAR 426 HEMI IN PRO STOCK 351 CLEVE HAD TO RUN HEAVER IN PRO STOCK WHATS UP WITH THAT

  • @97chux when the first 12 pontiac 421's came out only 3 of the 12 were used... the other 9 racers said "if they can't catch me with a 389 why go to a 421" pontiac made all track records in nascar from like 1962 to 1966...

  • @97chux Politics, Chevy had it on their side Mopar & Ford did not. The 500 cu.in. rules equalized it for all brands Pro Stock motorcycle still have it today. Harley & Buell would never beat the Suzuki's with even weight breaks.

  • man i was born in the wrong era!

  • To bad the chrysler hemi cars were factored out of prostock via weight rules a couple years after prostock was started... who knows what success sox & martin would have truely shared in prostock if their hemi cars weren't required to run heavier than their opponents after 2 straight prostock titles as soon as the class was started... it's funny this video dosent mention the weight break rules the hemi cars had to go by.. i wonder why...

  • @DavidW2340-Nice to know somebody remembers the penalty given to Mopars for being at the top of their game. This isn't something NHRA would like to talk about. As you know the only question prior to NHRA penalizing the Hemi was "which hemi powered mopar would win Pro Stock". This was the sanctioning bodies way of making GM cars competitive to please the fans. NASCAR also penalized the Superbird and Daytona by limiting engine size. If the tables were turned it would have been a different story

  • @DavidW2340 its funny how you didn't mention the reason why they gave chevys a weight brake. they were using 331 inch blocks while everyone else was using big blocks.

  • @ACHEESEDANISH00 Nobody held back the Chevy guys from running their big blocks, The 331 was just a better combination in the Vega & Monza bodies they were running. Warren Johnson ran the big block Chevy's in Camaro bodies.

  • @DavidW2340 --- NHRA did the same thing to Ford when they went to 355 C.I. rule when Glidden dominated the class the Cleveland headed Fords were hit with a weight disadvantage. It's all equal today as it has been since the early 80's and the Hemi's have won little. GM's Ponitiac brand has dominated the recent years as Chevy did with Lee Shepard id in the early years of the 500 C.I. motors and Glidden did with Ford engines until the 90's.

  • Da Grump is the Man!!!

  • racingformusic said: "And now the Pro Stockers are 6.6 second streakers at speeds ranging from 205 to 210 mph"

Sorry my friend, but they've long ago stopped being Pro STOCKERS. They are (and have been for some time now) NOTHING BUT CARBURETED FUNNYCARS SANS FLIPTOP BODY.

The cars that are raced in this eliminator represent NOTHING that is available from Detriot.

Time WAY OVERDUE for NHRA to rename the class!

  • I've never looked at it that way man.

  • great video.. at 2:50 dude is shiftin gears smoking a cigar..... Gangster..

  • And now the Pro Stockers are 6.6 second streakers at speeds ranging from 205 to 210 mph

  • This is from Hot Rod from Detroit came out in the late 80's to early 90's.

  • That tape came out in 1987

  • that's what i call "Motorsport History 101"

    5 out of 5 STARS

    cheers from 'Rico
