What I always loved about the VUX song was how the diminished beat made your encounters with them feel so claustrophobic. Like they're already limpeting your ship and encroaching in your space.
the vux ships are really good unless you are fighting a long ranged ship. If you're fighting, say, an umgah, then you're going to win because they can't get close to you without being bombarded with those little snot thingies, and if you can get enough of them on any ship it's bye-bye umgah. But if you're fighting a spathi or a druuge, you're totally screwed.
@humanityisstupid Well, right back at you! keep your tongue in your little hole you call your mouth and clean yourself up, you have warts all over your body! Whats worse is your "Hair" reminds me of Medusa and your male. yuck. must suck to have to operate machinery with just appendages you sick little anorexic bastard.
(I so wanted to call them out on their "Uglyness". XD)
@TaintedMustard Their ship is alright in certain situations. They automatically start close to their opponent in battle, they have an attack that cannot be avoided (except for the Utwig or Yehat shields) and their secondary can make any ship slow down to a crawl in speed and turn rate.
I'll admit though, I'd only use the crew value on them in very specific situations. Depends on what you are fighting.
@MazzaTheFirst The real problem is that the "automatically starting close" thing didn't seem to be the case in single-player, making the VUX appear rather feckless. I didn't notice it happening more often than with other ships, anyway. Even if it did, if your opponent manages to react quickly enough to avoid the initial attack, you're screwed unless you can force them into making a (pretty big) mistake.
Their armament is pretty nice, but they just don't get many chances to use it.
@TaintedMustard ISTR that, according to the manual, your flagship has some Precursor technology to nullify the VUX's ability to start close in. It still worked if you fought with escort ships, I believe.
Dan Nicholson really outdid himself here..This is truly inspired and reflective of the Ominously Alienating Threat of the VUX--badass song IMO....I played Star Control 2 years ago by the way....Awesome game/story/music...

Can't you see you are making me sick?
Please, foul creature, turn your head, or better yet, put a sack over it.
Never mind, I have adjusted my display so it is dim enough to be tolerable.
In answer to your question, our response is simple.
We must attack you because our masters, the Ur-Quan, wish it so!
Now if you don't mind, stop nodding your head like that.
We VUX do not share this range of motion
and it appears as though your neck is broken
and you are a jabbering corpse. Ugh.

This theme is way too badass for the VUX. Would have worked better for the Ilwrath, imo.

@Nyarlathoteplol Nah, this theme is perfect for 'em. They just needed a decent ship.

@ternanter One of his better beats... :) The chords are courtesy of the .mod sample pitch transposition. :) But they do just sound ominous.
He's a great artist, I wonder what's he up to these days...
