Like catching speeders and issuing tickets, or pulling people over for tinted windows, or re-offending drunk drivers so they can go pay their $2500 to her majesty? The city smells, its almost completely concrete and there are hardly any trees. There are more and more jobless and Princess Street has plenty of drug addicts. Now Irving wants another refinery to continue polluting the city. Saint John is a city that was. A sad result of corporate greed and a town that allowed themselves to be bought and sold by one evil empire. He betrayed his countrymen. The finger of blame should be pointed at him! My wife and I used to live there and never will again.

During this recession, if it wasn't for Irving, Saint John would have been Miramichi or Dalhousie. Are they greedy? Yeah, but so is everybody. Who hasn't left their current job for a more high paying job? I use to be one of the people that though Irving was bad for the city, but one can't argue that they are keeping people and the city going during this recession.

I come to Saint john every year to go to my cottage on the kingston peninsula, and I can never understand why there is such animosity towards Irving, in the province.

-they make public nature parks

-they employ several thousands of people in NB

-they plant huge numbers of trees

-they provide numerous community services/donations

shouldn't the people of NB be proud that they have such generous and vital canadian-owned economic empire?

i love the immage at 2:16. the houses chillin out while the factory spews smoke into the city. iv been all over new brunswick, and i must say saint john has the worst air quality, its verry noticible. just think about what that does to our tourism industry. Now not to say im all gunning at irving, i like my job and i approve of all they give to the comminity, yes theres lots of jobs and lots of opportunities for the community. but the stuff they do behind closed doors... digusting.

I've just read the comments about Irving... yea they stink up the town... BUT that's employment! They have done sooo much for our environment otherwise. My daughter graduated from middle school the other day.. we took her prom pics in the Loyalist graveyard... how many cities can say that? Speaking of her and Irving.. She graduated from Saint John the Baptist/King Edward K-8 School and Irving ..with their partnership agreement ..

Well done that person! The Irving's are greedy bastards. I once went for employment with them as a forecourt attendant(not a great move but I was desperate for work!), but decided not to take it at a princely sum of $8/hr, that won't help support my family. To be honest they've ruined Saint John's environment with their industry. Slapping themselves on the back for providing employment and inadequate charitable gestures, I hope you read this you mongrels!
