Verry funny how you seem to see Holland as a place somewhat like the Shire (Hobbitland): an obscure, strange people with peacefull and friendly customs, but you wouldn't want to live there. It's a place you go to on a holiday.

I can understand that, it's the same reason many Dutch people (as do I) categorize their country as 'een slaapland' (a sleeping country) in which you're future is bleak and forseeable. So don't idolize this country. I, for one, think you're better of in the US : )

@Burgmannn woah, don't think the future can be less bleak in America or idolize other countries just because you live here. We should be lucky living in holland! There are downers, for example I think especially when you want to have an artistic career (from painting to opera) or a really wild and creative career here (but they have exchange programs for that), but atleast you don't have to worry too much you will be living in total poverty. We dutch should realize more to be grateful!

how did you learn Dutch, if I may ask? I am a Dutchie, my wife is American, and she's had the hardest time learning Dutch, she just won't pick it up that readily. Any tricks I might benefit from, or was it all through exposure?

Hahaha, the eye/sight talk was very interesting. I hope her eyes get better? Anyway, I live in Holland and I've never been to either England or America. Even though I would love to go. My parents are the ones who are stopping me from going, really. I love the English language.
