In the 1980s, I grew up in a family of Sooners fan in south Oklahoma City. My dad only allowed me to watch UWF Mid South, World Class, or NWA. Dr Death Steve Williams was a huge childhood hero of mine. I was used to wear my Oklahoma football jersey and do the Oklahoma Stampede on all my friends. Props to Terry Gordy too! I enjoyed watching him from his days in World Class all the way to his stint in ECW. R.I.P to the Doctor and Bam Bam!
Trying to watch a WWE Smackdown show is almost impossible. The production is amateurish. Its like watching a G.L.O.W. womens wrestling show from the 80s. I hope if anyone still has the interest in promotion, they will have learn to serve your local fan base over building an empire
As I recall the brief heyday of the UWF was the 80s under Bill Watts. They were a good promotion for awhile but from the outside looking in you can see the blueprints for the downfall of all of the other non-WWE promotions: They didnt bring in and integrate enough new talent to keep the story lines fresh. After a short while, you need more than the same ole rivalries over and over (and an increasingly synthetic looking Missy Hyatt) to keep the fans interested.
@hmorganman Mid South/ UWF went under because they paid too much to get syndicated TV, wre perceived as the third promotion outside of their territory, and the ecomonmy inside their territory was the shits. Really didn't have anthing to do with the talent.
@xcellken1 Bill Watts tricked Jim Crockett into buying the UWF by telling him that Vince was about to purchase it. Crockett, in a panic, did. It would eventually lead to Crockett's downfall, too. He inherited all of Watts' expenses.
1% of the current WWE budget. 100% better wrestling. Thank you UWF-NWA-WCCW for great years of wrestling. All we have now is sports entertainment that is not really entertaining.

Dr. Death was a great guy. A legitimate tough guy who had a heart of gold, and didnt have to prove his toughness to anyone. I will miss him.
