Hi, Well the statue is opposite the Castle, on the main road through the town from the Cardiff direction over the mountain, It is by the entrance to the Twyn carpark that also serves the tourist centre. you have to go down the hill, turn right and return up the hill to get to the entrance, Tommy would have loved that I'm sure.

Being from Caerphilly all I can say is that is nothing, they stole all the other statues in town, besides it took us years to work out that was a rabbit, everyone wondered why they gave him a squirel.

After being out in Caerphilly many, many times I sometimes wish that all I'd woken up with was a traffic cone.

He'd of loved it anyway.

If people are daft enough to put up statues to comedians they should expect this sort of reaction. Besides, what damage did the cone do? In his act Tommy used to wear lots of funny hats. Tommy Cooper - a one-gag comedian who made a successful career by wearing a fez, laughing inanely, stumbling his way through conjuring tricks and telling jokes written for him by a team of comedy writers. I know he made a lot of people laugh and that's great - better than making people cry. But let's reserve words like "genius" for people who merit it. Otherwise it becomes as meaningless as the ubiquitous "awesome"!

Your argument could be levelled at someone like Charlie Chaplin...afterall what did he do apart from walk silly and fall over alot, but is he a genius!? undoubtedly so!

Chaplin did his own thing in his own inimitable style and he shaped comedy for generations to come.

Tommy was the same, he only had to walk on stage, say nothing & audiences were in bits! Genius comes in many guises.
