South Vietnam was fighting for the American dollar and that myth of "freedom". NVA was fighting for real freedom, freedom from colonialism and imperialism, something they have suffered under for 200 years. They were fighting for independence. Why couldn't Americans understand that when their forefathers fought for the same ideals 200 years ago? Answer: American propaganda

so make a definitive statement, @ the time of the war were the north viets offering the south freedom? right to own property? right to leave the country if they desired? open & free elections, with real distinctions in the parties? Just a yes or a no.

I understand vietnam has opened up some, but I would not say they are as free as USA or western europe, would you?

Do u even know about US history, how long it took to become civilized, the Civil War, the Indian Wars, how it invaded Texas and Mexico, Cuba, the Philippines, all before 1900?? I'm just gonna point out some facts to you that contradict your beliefs. @mollkatless I think so. It sure looked like it when I visited HCM City a couple of years ago. I saw no slums and it looked very peaceful, safe and clean. I was surprised to see many high-end residential villages also wondering how could that be, if Vietnam is supposed to be socialist. I was shocked to learn Vietnam gets more tourists 4 million a year, than my country Philippines. So yeah I think it was a very good thing for the North to win. US and Vietnam are good friends now.

ARVN just lost the war because they were taught how to behave as Americans, the soldiers morale was low and because the war was unpopular for Americans
