good video mate.my mate has a imac 27" hes trying to sale to me but the left half of the screen has gone about 10% darker.he said this happened after a firmware update?is this fixable and could you direct me to what parts or solution i may need.thanks.
Few days ago I got a used iMac 24" 3.06 ghz and it is broken,
What it does is when i turn it on the apple logo comes up with the spinning wheel underneath, That continues for about 20 second and the spinning wheel gets stuck and nothing happens. I tried everything e.g. restoring with installation disc, restoring with command, safe boot and such.
Please help, I don't know if it is the video card problem!
iMac Intel 24" 256mb 2006 Nvidia 7600 GT off eBay and am having it imported from the states. These cards are VERY hard to come accross. It cost me $270 == £170.
This video helped me a great deal. However i am a little annoyed that i have to now strip the whole imac down just to fit a simle thing such as a video card.
Beats buying a new mac mini though. I have a 24" white imac (late 2006)
@dejavu627 not arguing against you. just explaining the logic behind the point of watching this video..i didn't like the music either..that's why i'm not to lazy to mute it then when i'm done watching it, mute off. cheers
@dejavu627 I would tell those people notice the MUTE button on 1. the end " viewer" 's keyboard 99.99% of the time. 2. a mute digital button on the youtube video ALL the time. 3 and there's the physical volume nob on MOST if not all pc desktop speakers ( yes even speakers built into the monitor itself has them too) that turns volume down and then off as you complete the turning circle. thus. those people don't have a concept of the POINT of this video.. to WATCH & learn.
Also, wtf would any idiot DISLIKE this video? how often do you get what some would call the equal to a LIVE PC TECHNICIAN SHOWING YOU HOW TO DO SOMETHING inside a freaking mac...apple damn sure wouldn't show you this. ..you 3 trolls need a life
this is why custom building your own gaming pc IS BETTER AND EASIER..LOL. and CHEAPER ftr depending on your needs. holly shit..i'd disassembled notebook computers easier than this looks..lol. if you're needing 2560x1440 rez display..well either get over forking out more cash..or less cash and get 2gb 6970 upgrade version of the iMac and call it a day.
ftr..THANK YOU for this video man..i'll pay the word along ..already got someone on a different youtube channel asking about this. cheers
Bloody hell, that´s for pros. You have to dissasemble the whole computer! i just thought in cleaning, but i ll leave it till problems come. Then i ll pay if it´s worth.
I was lucky, many people had this problem. 5 years of intensive use and fine.
I have a powerpc and I had a power surge in my area one day and it just went out...It was going on and off for a day and then suddenly went out...Can you say if I might need to replace the logicboard or just the power switch? Thanks..you can message me if you have any tips.
hello my friend i have the same problem of my computer imac is old like yours i don't know how to replace if you please makes slow the video because i'm going to do the same replace with my hands thank you so much
its a laptop video card. Ive done this allot for around 150$ (because of greedy bastards over valuing MXM cards) some cases i reball them and resell. after that, they don't ever die.
Impressive. I've never gone that far with my iMac 24'' (to date only replaced the internal HD).
Now I'm experiencing the same video issues... Before considering a complete card replacement, did some some of you tried to replace the thermal grease on the GPU ? (as it looks as if this is the main issue with this NVidia 7300GT)
And to those who asked, you cannot use any card except the iMac 24" 7300GT 128MB or the 7600GT 256MB card because it uses a special MXM connector. Also, this will ONLY work on the 24" plastic white iMac. The other size iMacs don't have replaceable graphics cards.
Just a heads up for those who are going to try this: you DON'T have to remove the hard drive, optical Superdrive, or left speaker. This should save you some time.
hey i need to change my video card? can i replace it with a better one. i got 512mb but lately it's giving me a problem. i wanna find a better 1GB display card. can anyone advise me?
Hi, I was wondering since a graphics card is replaceable on an Imac as shown on this vid, can you upgrade it for a better one. I have the same model btw but mine is 21,5.
Hi, thanks for uploading this helpful video. I have a question though, would it be possible to replace the GPU with a different one with the same mxm type vII connector? Also can the heatsink be removed from the gpu that comes standard in the mac?
@tklawrence123749 Yes, you can replace the 7300GT with the 7600GT if you like. And yes, the heatsink can be removed quite easily from the GPU. It just has 4 spring loaded phillips head screws.
Hi, not so long ago you commented on greasing the GPU on a 2006 IMAC. Your comment to remove the 4 Phillips heads screws. I have a question here.
I was following your idea but the screws are blanks off with some plastic caps, how do you remove these without undue stress on the board below please?
Oh damn, I lack the aptitude... I'd rather pay someone to do this for me.

What ever happened to the G5's design? Take out 2 screws, and the whole back opens up, revealing everything!
