Wonderful version of this song. If you do a search for "CONNIE FRANCIS GETS A WEE BIT IRISH!" and skip to 2:15 Connie also does a beautiful version of this song that I think you will enjoy.
Beautiful song and most of all, beautiful voice, which you don't find today. Nothing added. My Mom had her albums, when I was young, and you really don't appreciate a voice like this until you get older. Hope all the young kids out there taking singing lessons take note of the raw talent.
My father sang this song to my siblings and me in the 1940s. He made nickel and dime tips singing it along with other Irish songs at saloons in the lst ward at Buffalo during the early 1920s. This is a beautiful rendition and I thank you for putting it on YT. Tommy Kelly
At my Catholic grade school, whose pastor was Father Doherty, we were constantly treated to all the classic Irish folk songs. I always especially liked this one. It is soooo good to hear it again after all these years. I didn't know you, Ruby Murray, but you obviously sang like an angel. Thank you for this beautiful rendition. May you rest (and sing with the heavenly choir) in softness. Thank you.
How sweet and lovely. Ruby sounds wonderful. The pictures are so peaceful and soothing to look at. My ancestors on both of my parents' side of our family were Irish and I always loved hearing them talk about stories that were handed down to them. Thank you for posting this . - Paula
Had the pleasure and the honour of playing in the same concert as Ruby in a tour of Ireland many years ago. She was such a lovely, gentle and modest lady who was friendly to everyone. She is sadly missed but never forgotten. May she rest in peace.

Ruby hit the Big-Time with "Softly Softly" in 1955......Number 1 in the Charts,
Her very distinctive hoarse voice , was the result of a throat operation in childhood.....
Which was a blessing in disguise.
Ruby was born in Belfast in 1935...And died of an alcohol related problem in 1996.....(RIP)......Memories, Thanks Ruby....x
