OKAY ANYONE USING WINDOWS XP. You do not have to upgrade to Vista! You can partition (split up) your hard drive, and you will be able to dual boot Windows 7. It works great, no problems at all. You do not have to burn the disc or anything. After you partition your hard drive and begin Windows 7 installer, choose CUSTOM INSTALL instead of the recommended one. Then choose your partitioned part of your hard drive. I hope this helps anyone with XP. Thank you uploader!

@drift4life123 idk it depends on your computer. and also yes you can choose to boot from windows 7 and windows xp only if you install windows 7 in a different hard drive. that way youll have a different choice. but if you only have one hard drive. then sorry you cant boot form both, youll have to choose between windows7 and wndows xp before you install.

@TeeTeeNsAsA wow thats rare... anyways that means you have to update your sound driver. just check here on youtube, type in.. driver genius latest. and find this video thats in red, there should be this white guy talking on his microfone and he is genuine and he has working links. once you install it you should be able to install all missing drivers. good luck and pm me if your having trouble.

@DMGath it depends, sometimes the windows installer gives you the chance to upgrade. which means that it lets you upgrade to windows 7 without moving any files from your current hard drive. i believe that if you have windows vista. you can choose that option. but im not 100% sure since all computers are different. anyways im more then 50% sure that you can choose the upgrade option.

what if you already had windows 7 premium, and you want to install the this? I tried it and it gave me the options to upgrade or to find a compatible driver on my computer. When I picked the upgrade option, they said that i needed the product key which I don't have. When I chose the other option, it said that it could not find the driver that is compatible. Unbelievable! It actually worked. I made a DVD and installed Ultimate 64bit from scratch then used the activator. I never expected it to work but I have a valid product key and my status shows Windows is Activated. The only issue was that at the end of the install I got a message that read something like "No HDD found" I just clicked "Try Again" 4 or 5 times then it went away and everything is fine. Hopefully Windows updates works now.

@brcjacks Updates worked fine. I do recall from a previous install that Microsoft has an update out now that is supposed to prevent people from manipulating the product keys and activation status. Just to be safe, I set my updates to notify me before downloading or installing so that I can review them each individually So far so good. Now, If only I had a copy of Office 2010 that worked the same way.
