I had this done about 18 months ago. I am very active in sports (golf and softball) and had this so I can continue playing. Very happy I did. I am throwing harder than ever and my golf game is pain free, and no more numbness in the hand. Doc told me a year to recover. He was nearly on TO THE DAY. Do the rehab and all the best.
@jvtrainor When you say a year to recover, what did it stop you doing for that year? could you exercise? work? I have read that you might lose sensation in your hands? Was it just one arm that bad as mine are both arms.
@quatie Sorry, it took so long to reply. It took a year to get full recovery. During the year, I was able to do the things I wanted, but there was always a lingering feeling of the surgery. I was able to exercise, but carefully. I am a computer operator and was able to work, it just took a few months to get the confidence to lift a server and a things like that. What I did notice is that after a yr, I woke up and was totally impingement free and was stronger than ever. Hope this helps.
hi im due for this surgery on the 19th of april can u tell me how much pain u were in and for how long afterwards because theyve only told me to get paracetamol. also how long does the surgery take and is it as bad as it looks because i am quite nervous now after seeing some of the videos on here but ive had the problem for 2 years now and im happy its finally getting sorted
Thank you posting this video - That arm looks awfully large and swollen pre-op.
I am undergoing this surgery in 10 days but now I feel like backing out of the surgery altogether. The procedure looks quite brutal although I'm sure it was undertaken with care and professionally managed - still it looks scarey
Im thinking i have Ulnar Nerve Entrapment but am not 100% sure I havent seen a dr. I had Tendonitis real bad in may-june and It never completely heald. I hace pain in my inside elbow and it swells alot od times. And the pain goes dow to my pinky finger. Its not terrible pain but it does hurt and is very annoying. Im going to a dr soon. Can the pain in your pinky be pain? Or does it have to be numbnss to be this comdition? im scared I got this lol.
I had this done 3 years ago. I had decreased sensation around the incision site and elbow for over a year after the surgery. I still get pain in my elbow/arm but there has been alot of improvement and my atrophied muscle has regenerated quite a bit. Its a long recovery and it may never go back to what it used to be but my hand is now fully functional. Even after 3 years I can still see small improvements every few months.
Dec. 22, 2010 I had this surgery combined with surgery to remove hip bone and make new bone for 2 disks in my neck. It has been 5 weeks yesterday. I have began to have some major problems with the elbow in the past 2 weeks. Began with a very cold sensation occasionally. Like someone dripping ice water on the area. Now it's a constant feeling of stinging, burning, fire, running along the incision. Just wondering if anyone has this same feeling. I see my Dr on Tues definitely lots of comfy pillows.
I had this surgery on monday the 24th of jan 2011 and i was told by the doc to carefully move and flex my elbow a lot during restituation so the nerve wouldn't grow together with the surrounding flesh but instead help it develop a new channel to travel in. There are a lot of sensitive mechanisms in the elbow so be careful and take good care of it. :-)
Good luck with your recovery. Don't ever be afraid ti contact your doc whenever you feel something isn't alrght. :-)
I watched half of this video...had the procedure done about a month ago to my right arm.... I wasn't expecting to hear that the numbness is still present after a year! I'm battling with the pain (hand was opened as well) but I had another nerve which was damaged. Investing in pillows is pretty good advice and also try not to overuse the other arm. Easier said than done but trust me, it's rough when both arms are buggered and hurting.
I had this surgery. I have a nice 6 inch scar but at least I can use my arm again. Recovery time was about 3 months for me. A year later and there is still numbness on my forearm and underarm. I have complete muscle atrophy however I can now move my arm without being in complete agony. ..................however I have forearm tendonitis in my other arm now from having over compensated for lack of strength from my left arm. Good luck to all who have this procedure done. Invest in some pillows!
I'm really not sure. I had my op on the 14/10/2010 and my index and pinkie fingers are no better and the swelling around the operated area is pretty bad. Seeing the hand surgeons tomorrow. They did shift the goal posts...from 3 months to 6-9 months for recovery but bear in mind that they made no promises about the final result. I still need to strap the 2 fingers together due to cramps from those 2 fingers, and along the side of the hand. I've learnt to get by with 3 fingers.
I've had both elbows and hands done. I find more relief from massage and stretching, yoga. Had I known about the massage and yoga, I might have avoided the surgeries
I am having this done on the 21st. I have had numbness in my left ring and pinky finger for about 6 months and over the last two months or so I have been losing grip strength. I play the guitar and it is difficult to make some cords now. Hopefully this will fix the problem and I will be back to normal in a year or so.
I had a procedure done on the 1st of may 2008. I had the decompressed and pinned. However, it failed and I'm having to go back very soon to have it done all over again.
The actual surgery was very well done. It was sore, but the most painful part about it was the tourniquet, not the surgery itself, amusingly.
I had this operation on januari the 12th, this year first month I had still lot of pain, but pain is gone now, just my pink and ringfinger are still a bit tingling but surgeon said it can take almost two years to get the feeling back in those fingers...I am happy I did it, the pain is all gone now.
I had this procedure done in December, the surgery was not as evasive as this, only a small incision was needed.I had slight pain for a few days, and now on the road to recovery
you will have loss of feeling in your middle.ring and little finger, tingling and stabbing pains in the joints.i could not rest my elbows on a hard surface. One of the things i could'nt do was simple tasks like opening screw top jars!! the pain was so bad at night that i could not sleep, pain killers had no effect or differenet types of exercise. The surgeon was suprised that i had left it so long,i was told that if i had left any longer i could have lost the use of my hand. get it done ASAP.
Was the same for me, just had the surgery 3 days ago. I was close to lose the use of my hand as well. Going to do the same on my right arm soon, because I have neuropathy.
I think i may have the entrapnment in my shoulder. I loose sensation in my ring finger and pinky and up to my wrist. My shoulder hurts. I"m going to the hospital in a few months.
I have had this done once and now built up scar tissue so bad they have to do it again. WTF

Yep, this one smarts a little - had the op myself a little while ago - although it must be said it does help settle the nerve down some time later
