  • What a great video! And the poster takes time to explain. Had a D10 for many years, was great fun

  • this may sound silly but does it have a thing to save sounds for easy instant access?

  • @modgemtb Yes it saves onto a 3.5-inch disk drive (double density/double sided.

  • Lovely sounds! I've been having a hard time figuring out, how to get the most of my D-110. Your video makes it quite obvious that going "soft" (no offense, really) is the way to go. I really like the main lead - very soulful (says someone who was a kid back in the 80's). Keep it up!

  • @rasmus3113 I have been working on another Duran cover. Multi tracking with Audacity. It eats up creativity time working this computer stuff. Going "soft" may be an option for some, but I'm not liking the strain on the eyes. I'll stick with the hardware for now. If I used all the gear at my disposal this track would have been so much better. I was just trying to show it is possible to make a reasonable recording of a pop song with the D20. Did it backfire on me? LOL.

  • @willrobinsonensoniq Hey will. Sorry, I hope you didn't think I meant going software. Not at all - I genuinely love your sounds, which - to my ear - are "softer" than a lot of the FM-ish sounds coming out of the D10/20/110. 'Moodier' I guess you could call them also. Surely you've proved that the D20 can be used to build a decent pop track. I'd love to hear you have a crack at Kim Wilde's "Cambodia" - sweet tune with sort of similar sounds. Best, Rasmus

  • @rasmus3113 Simulating the DX series was a selling point and I agree it, FM is harsh and brittle sounding but damn, the DX 7 can make some sweet tines/elec pianos. ; ) The D series emulations of those sounds, maybe not.

  • the drum machine is awful.

  • @JamesTCA The sounds themselves or the programming of the track?

  • @willrobinsonensoniq Both. Crash without bass on the same note sounds really weird, and I can't hear any hihat.

  • @JamesTCA Notes did drop off. The board has limited polyphony to start with (compromises are necessary) and the samples are typical 80's LO-FI. This was a major step up from the Casio HT 700 I started with. Even the Korg M series sounds (a considerable step up) are dated by today's standards. C'est la vie.

  • That is so awesome - you have my respect!

  • @DavidRogers007 I have to more of these videos when time permits. It is a lot of fun.

  • I love someone who can not only play, but figures out how to put it all together! Awesome man.

  • good job! I have a d-50.

  • @Dubwise4u If only the rest of the D series had the Chorus/Reverb effects the D50/550 has. The song would have sounded a bit better. Thanks for the accolades.

  • awesome track

  • @StudioF A surprisingly easy song. Although it would have sounded much better using all the gear at my disposal. The D20 pulled it off by itself.

  • I LOVE THE BRASS SOUND IT HAS ¡¡¡

  • I dig it!! I'm getting one of these for my kid. Can't wait to play with it too. D2 and DMode are my fav's!!

  • OK. If you need a sneak peak at the owners manual, visit the Roland site. Enjoy. ; )

  • Just picked it up tonight. Can't wait to play with this thing. Looking thru the manual, it looks a bit overwhelming. Gonna take some time to figure this beast out!!

  • Keep this up and we won't need a bass player anymore!

  • @tuckerwolf23 I seriously doubt that. But it was fun to do... hint ... hint...

  • @tuckerwolf23 snow day?

  • Great !! I love the D20, have had a couple... was my first ever 'workstation' synth, never had the programmer though so never got into making sounds on it unfortunately.

  • My next video shows my devotion to this board... you could say I know it inside and out. ; )

  • It sounds great!!!....Very good job!!

  • This is the little keyboard that could...

  • All the flashy lights are purrrty.

    : P

  • yes they are...

  • Very nice! Sorry bothering you but, since I'll get one of that same board from a negociation, I'd appreciate some info from a -happy- owner so I have some questions. In this cover, is the bass PCM, Waveform or both built? Are you using the built in effects on any "instrument"? Has your D-20 failed on you due to its 'so-told' unreliability? Thank you so much!

  • This bass was an analog (tone name is BassSynth,) a sawtooth wave factory tone. I only modified it so the sustain (TVA) would not linger on. It did not use PCM waveforms. The parts (timbres) all used the Reverb effect. The board has not suffered from "dead key" syndrome or "stuck button(s)" thankfully. Hope you benefit from this transaction. ; )

  • Soon after making the dead key remark I had 11 keys die. It was inevitable after the workout it received doing this cover. All but the top 3 keys were recovered. The battery needed to be changed out and the key bed cleaned anyway. 3 hours of sweat and tears. Documented in the "to the shore" video.

  • I love seeing people do music I love on synths!

  • Me too!
