I am still wiping the tears from my eyes. My God, great job. It really makes you think about the world as a whole. Are we really that selfish? I think this video answers that question, despite it is not the answer we want to hear.
The moment we share our time doing something good and positive to others, all our feelings on being blue will vanish, and a GREAT sense of LOVE and LIFE with a meaning and a sense of humanity will fulfill our life and our soul.
WE NEED LOVE AND RESPECT TO EACH OTHERS, AND TO THE NATURE.
the social lines of capitalism, neoliberalism, and sites of third world resistance transform when we can finally begin to merge together the bodily violence perpetrated against the so-called third world and the psychic violence perpetrated against people of the first world.
wow, that's well said! I've been thinking we need to be so careful of how we treat our sensitive psyches -- so much good can come out of it when we are careful, and so much bad when we are not. We underestimate our psyches's sensitivity and how much we can really take, in the 1st and 3rd worlds. We take our PSYCHOSES out on our BODIES -- in both worlds, I think.
i think that the pairing together of such a beautifully self-reflective song (as alanis always does) dealing with inner psychic worlds with the inescapeable material world of inequity creates a very discomforting space for the viewer - amazingly affective.
It is disgusting reading comments saying about dictionaries or what Alanis could have thought before making the song, when the author of the video wanted to show things that are out there in this world and the careless of people that have food enough to feed their own fatness and come here to youtube to criticize one that cannot speak their language perfectly.
Here is the "fun": guys like these are part of our world, showed on the video, and we can recognize in who's place so easily.
Hey!! Thank you so much!!! I saw that you are Brazilian too!! I decided to write in English because this video is in the same language, so people will understand us. Thank you for the comment!!
Obrigada pela ajuda! As pessoas perderam realmente o foco do vídeo que fiz, o que é uma pena... beijos!
Okay, but the thing is that the video completely misses the point of the song. The point of the song is about letting go a feeling of personal duty to others, and about not feeling guilty and obligated to do things for others because of one's own happiness. It's, like, the opposite of what this video is intending.
I think you may have missed the point... that life intends we all have a duty (personal or civic) to help in some small way to change what we can in this world. Material wealth won't make you a better person either.
I wasn't talking about whether someone has civic duty or not, I was just pointing out the fact that the video portrayed almost the opposite of what the song's message is, so there was kind of a dissonance. That has nothing to do with whether we have a duty to change the world, etc.
I agree with you, but I think PaullettyfromBrazil did a great (!) job in interpreting this song in her own way and I'm sure Alanis would quite like it if she saw it!
I agree in a way. the song is IMO about someone basically saying even though i have wealth etc. and therefore have no excuse to whine about I DO have feelings and I do feel depressed sometimes. even tho technically i should care about the less fortunate. where i do however think this video hits the spot is in the way it shows all the wealth the west has and is sill unhappy (we're an incredibly unhealthy people).
Uh...I think the meaning of the song is clear. It's about not taking the burden of other's or feeling obligated. I don't really think it was left up for much interpretation on that front. BUT I get that many of you agree with the message of the video itself. Still...eh...I'm Western, and I'm not unhappy at all, so...eh. Eh. Eh-eh. Haha. Each lives his own life, I think, and chooses his own happiness, so long as he lives in a place that is politically free.

Very well done :) Only one part you missed, but it's not something understood. The phrase "rest on (one's) laurels"
To rely on one's past achievements instead of working to maintain or advance one's status or reputation. Free dictionary online! GREAT SONG!
