@StalkerOblivian Hi. I would rather take a look at the Intel i5 2500K. The "K" stands for fully unlockable, and it can be clocked from 3.3GHz to 4.5GHz on 4 cores. Its a bargin, its totally sick at overclocking but still long above good enough stock. Tho you would have to upgrade your motherboard and memory to, but I wouldn't spend that kind of money on an old technology thats going to be outdated soon. Tho it is a cheap upgrade you would gain much performance.
Im still using it, cuz i dont play that many PC games.. I play a bit CSS from time to time, and i play Crysis, GTA and such sometimes, but i usually use my computer for Firefox, IM, music, movies, downloading, and so on.. And when I can use it to play Crysis with fair gfx and framerate, then im satisfied. But I want to buy a 4870 as soon as I get a job and get some money.. Have to use some money on car license to..
the msi p35 neo-2 fr manual states that if u put the rams in like EirikFS..you will get dual channel , put it in the same colored slots will get you single channel
i couldn't help but notice that you had the sticks of ram on seperate channels. If you put both sticks in the separate colored slots you will get double the ram speed.
Its a decent MB. Tho, i would go for a X38 or X48 to get PCIe 16x/16x insted of 16x/4x witch you get with a P35 MB. Thats if you are planning on running SLi or X-Fire, if not, then I see no reason not buying this MB.
For overclocking its decent. Its stable with the CPU, but I have had some problems overclocking the RAM(maybe the RAM itself whos blocking, dunno)..
Oh, and i had problems lowering the multiplier on the CPU, maybe a BIOS update helps, dunno :P
not much only 600 box for the otherboard and the processer :S i make the case :P and my video card a nvidia geforce 9800 was a gift for my birthday :D
I have almost the same rig as you. The only difference between ours is our video cards.(I have an Nvidia 8600GTS). One thing i noticed is you have your Vcore set a bit high for a 4GHz overclock. I have mine overclocked to 4GHZ on 1.28 volts. Also if you overclock beyond 4.08GHz or so your NB and SB core power changes.I have a video of my rig posted so check it out if you want to. Also if you have any questions, ask me and i will tell you to the best of my knowledge.
Yeah, I know my volts arent the best, but I cant do better with my batch nr. Maybe you have a better batch than me. I've heard of many trying to reach 4GHz having problems getting there without crossing 1.4V. So you are lucky to have such a good batch ;)
lol, one thing i forgot 2 mention is that i turned off speedstep on mine since it didnt work anyway. If you have not done this yet it WILL affect your overclocking abilitys. Also i have a question as to when you bought yours. I bought mine the first day Newegg started carrying them:P. Paid 226$ for it tho:(
Yeah, speedstep is off, dont want it jumping back and forward from 2-4GHz :P
I was one of the first here in Norway, no sellers was able to get it, but then one store got it, and my E8400 was on the first shippment from the store :) Payed 250$ for a boxed tho :P

They are running in Dual Channel.. But you dont get double ram speed one way or the other..
EirikFS 3 years ago
Well if you have them in single channel then lets say you have pc-6400, in single they would be 400mhz, in dual they would be 800mhz.
denrocks2 3 years ago
Wrong, the 400x2 is measured by the Double Data Rate (DDR)
"This is also known as double pumped, dual-pumped, and double transition."

Why dont you make a video? :) I would have found that interesting! :D

What a coincidence. I too have a rig almost like yours! Well, the casing at least. :)
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 4GHz
MSI P35 Platinum
Asus 9600GT Black Pearl
Currently I have problems going into the BIOS. Fixed everything and it works perfectly but the Card I have no video input to BIOS. :(
