  • U will always live on through ur work Jagjit Singh. A life well lived.

  • Inna-Lillahi-Wa-Inna-Ilaihi Rajiun

    R.I.P. Mr. JAGJIT SINGH.. :(

The evergreen singer 'Jagjit Singh' is no longer amongst us, but his songs and contribution to the Indian Music Industry will always remain alive in our hearts & soul !! :( :( :'(

May Allah Rest His Soul In Peace!

Aaj Phir Ek Chot Dil Par Seh Gaye, Ankhon Mein Paani Hath Khali Liye Reh Gaye,

Tumse Milne Ki Khawhish Thi Is Dil Mein, Is Dil Mein Khwahish Hi Liye Reh Gaye .. :( :( :(

  • Such a Poet & singer will never born again. What a combination?

  • @Pandit943 he was not a poet....

and this ghazal was written by ghalib.....

  • @TheNarenraizada He may have not been a poet by name but his music and singing was one of the greatest contributions...I truly believe the depth, emotion and heart in his voice is irreplaceable and very poetic. The way he sang these songs makes him a poet in my eyes because it is because of him some of this poetry is more popular or even known....I love the way he sang this beautiful melody, with such timing, pace and pronunciation. There will never ever be anyone like him...

  • One word: AWESOME no doubt......

  • My Most Most most fvt...

    Ghalib Jaisa koi ni..

  • Mirza Noshan Asad ullah Khan Ghalib the bestest of bestest in that era

  • Great Peotry.......& Great Singing....

  • such a powerful Gazal and such a nicely sung hardly any match it is a magic

  • 1 PERSON DISLIKED THIS...THAT PERSON IS A FAGGOT.

  • It is my most fav. ghalzal. From all aspects, this is a marvellous and heart touching ghazal. Picturization is great, jagjit's voice is great, Naseer's acting body language is great. Thus the video reflects the feeling of pain and sadness perfectly...

    I love this.....

  • i like its lyrics

  • master piece by mirza galib .....the best way to shar ur pain and suffrings....

  • Verse 1 - "Zulf" means a curly lock of hair. "Sar karna or sar hona" means to conquer an expedition. "Zulf ka sar hona" means to conquer the expedition of reaching the hair of the beloved or to win the love of the beloved.

Meaning: The lover's sighs do have an effect on the beloved but it requires a very long time. So long that I am not sure that I will be still alive to win your love.

  • @yusafvideo You're translation of "Zulf ke sar hone tak" is so beautiful...i stand corrected :) !!!

  • @mergerinfinity Thank you for appreciating the translation.

  • Verse 2 - "Kiya rang karoon" means how should I make my heart understand. "Khoone jigar hone tak" means till the liver has bled completely, i.e., till I succeed in love.

Meaning: To win the love of the beloved one needs a lot of patience but my burning desire keeps me disturbed. In these circumstances, how can I satisfy my throbbing heart who longs to meet the beloved right this moment.

  • Verse 3 - I understand that when you come to know of my miserable condition, you will certainly allow me to be in your company. But the problem is that before the news of my precarious condition reaches you, I would have died suffering from the pangs of separation.

  • Verse 4 - Human life is a horrible story of pain and suffering, misery and grief and adverse circumstances. Nobody can cure these afflictions because life is the name of long and successive episodes of sorrow. Death is the only way to end these sufferings. Look at a candle which burns in all situations till it is finished. In the same way, a man may belong to any walk of life, he is bound to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune till his death.

  • ham ne maanaa ke taGaaful na karoge lekin Khaak ho jaaye.nge ham tum ko Khabar hone tak wa... wa.. Ghalib....

  • @poissondelamer < I 100% agree, support, and second your comments,"world's most sweet, expressive, poetic and musical language" !!! This language plus the combination of Gulzar Singh, Jagjit Singh, Nasserudin Shah and all their talented team Sahibaan deserve rounds of applaud. The combination is rare and lethal !!!

  • I presume Ghalib to be an athiest, like most philosophers I've come across.

    Cosider the very first verse.

  • @mergerinfinity.. thanx u made ma task easy!! Well done!!

  • @zertajkashif what task man, did i forget to charge you for something ;) ???!!!

    cheers mate.

  • @poissondelamer and @kennethmild: Please shut up. Relax. I'm an Urdu speaker as well and yes, it is a sweet language. We get the point. So is every other language. You guys are putting me to shame in front of all these people.

And by the way, Her Excellence Lata Mangeshkar has more fame around the world than Mehdi Hasan could imagine. She doesn't need a language to prove herself. Calm down.

  • Matchless.....Simply Awesome..;(

  • write aah ko chaiye by faraz khosa ,,,,and listen this song by his great voice....that song is thousand time much sweet and better than this song

  • @MrShareyarkhan are you crazy? jagjit's version and that video from drama are timeless. I often go by the sea-side and wander like ghalib.

  • Whoa... what the...!!! That's too hifi urdu. I didn't understand a single couplet.. Some one translate the entire poem please..... and seriously are there people who still can understand this kind of language?

  • @schumayel Haha yeah there are. But unfortunately not as many as we would have liked :(

  • simply the best.there is no word to express abt the beauty of this song.

  • There are no words fo this ghazal, beautifuly composed with heart touching voice of jagjit..

  • wah galib wah wah jagjit ji or alfaz nahi hai mere pass bus wahhhhhhh

  • music ko Kisi reliigon se nahi jodna chahiye ghazal awesome hai par her urdu ghazal badhiya nahi hoti.nahi to aaj hindi, english songs ka kabza na hota guys

  • Urdu is world most sweet and expressive langauge,am at this result after visiting more than 156 diffrent countires and socities.

imagine Namak haram lata&mukesh without Urdu, and see the result.

  • in the first verse a funny translation is possible- it takes a lifetime for the hair to be lost and the bald pate seen

  • I can understand, dear peddammayi, your disgust with the Persianized Urdu of the Great Ghalib. I shall be more than happy to help you understand with it when you r stuck with it!

  • kaun jeeta hai teri zulf ke sar hone tak

    iska maine mazakiya translation kiya

isme itni maayusi thi ke mujhse raha na gaya

  • Urdu kisi Kushbo ki trah samat main sirayet kar jati hay, kia baat hay Urdu ki.

what remains in lata ji, mukesh ji and jagit sing jiiii with out Urdu?

  • @poissondelamer

Yes, Urdu is a sweet language, but I take it as an offense if you say nothing will remain in Lata Ji, Mukesh Ji and Jagjit Ji without it ... They are all lengends in themselves, and are not bound by language.

  • @ psoni6

Yes Urdu is a sweet language off course it is a discipline un-like Hindi "Bahut JOR ki Bhuk Lagi",hindi is a perverted language moreover a slang tongue,n ur Lata every morning listened to Mehdi Hassan as if she worshipped him n the humour part,if they never needed a language, y the hell sang in Hindi LMFAO NO OFFENSES PLZ!! I like Jagjit,Pankaj,RAFI,KISHORE,but if ure gonna talk abt King of Ghazals,I prefer u listen to Pakistani Ghazals by Mehdi Hassan,Amanat Ali Khan, etc.

  • N talk abt GHALIB.. jaisa koi nahi.. none yet !! wo kehte hain na Ghalib mar gaya per yaad aata hai.. haye haye !! kya baat hai "Ghalib marr gaya per yaad aata hai.. wo har baat pe kehna yun hota to kya hota"..

to chand tattu singers se Ghalib ko mat milao bhai,ye to gawwaiyey hain gatey hain, Ghalib to Bayan-e-Khud hai.

  • @kennethmild With a name like Kenneth Mild, and a Paki, an INBRED MORON CHAMAAR ,It's obvious that You don't know shit about music or languages, Just SHUT the FUCK up and enjoy the Music,if you have the capacity, I don't think so....Stop your venemous envy and educate yourself you DUMB FUCK.....

  • @kennethmild Highly arrogant, misinformed and mischievous comments from someone who is nothing short of a language chauvinist. These type of people r basically a bundle of hate and not love - exactly opposite of what Mirza Ghalib was.

  • @kennethmild

You don't know what is music and in what all forms it exists. Stop writing crap and showing your lack of knowledge you idiot. No language is perverted. It's individuals who can make any language pervert if they want. And you have already shown your IQ levels by writing 'then why sing in Hindi'. Seeing your grammar and IQ, it seems you must be a Pakistani. Bloody illiterates.

  • MIRZA is presedent or simply authority in urdu ghazal sice 18c........

  • (aah ko chaahiye ik umr asar hone tak

kaun jiitaa hai tirii zulf ke sar hone tak)

A sigh takes a life time to bear fruit,

wonder who'd live till you've unveiled u'r beauty.

    (aashiqii sabr-talab aur tamannaa betaab

dil kaa kyaa rang karuun khun-e jigar hone tak)

My love is patient, my desires ardent,

wonder what is the apt state for my heart before it perishes.

  • thanks for tracelation buddy

  • @mergerinfinity

This is the most beautiful translation of the lines that I have seen for this ghazals. Would you please post it in full here?

    Thanks a lot.

    N.

  • @itsmenandaa the remaining part is also down among the comments, i'm glad you like my interpretation.

  • (ham ne maanaa kih tagaaful na karoge lekin

khaak ho jaaeinge ham tum ko khabar hone tak)

Agreed you'll not be oblivious but till you get to know of it(my pain, my love), i might be long gone.

(gam-e hastii kaa asad kis se ho juz marg ilaaj

shamma har rang mein jaltii hai sahar hone tak)

The grief that personifies my existence has no cure,a candle finds it completion only by burning till the dawn breaks.

This is my interpretation, apologies if someone differs.

  • madhusudan.v@lici

U Have translated it it very aptly. The beauty of urdu is that even an illiterate will try to know the meaning of the verse. This is one of my favorite ghazals by ghalib..... simply love it Subhaan allah Ghalib!

  • any one can translate plzzzzzz well i know urdu but i think its pure one coz i,m not gettin it.........thanks

  • aah ko chahiye ik umer asar hone tak - It takes an age for a cry to make impact

koun jeeta ha iteri zulf ke sar hone tak - who will live for so long (till you spread your hair across my fore-head)

hame mana ke daga ful na kroge lekin - I agree that you won't cheat me, but...

khak ho jayenge hum tumko khabar hone tak - I'll turn to ash, before you come to know about me

  • game hasti ka asdak isse ho jusmarg ilaaz - perhaps this is the solution for a sadistic being(person)

shamma har rang mein zalti hai sahar hone tak - the light burns in every color till dawn

  • yaar in this he was saying to him self..its not asdak...its his name ASAD...i knw ghalib's full name...MIRZA ASADULLAH KHAN GHALIB

  • i think u didn't understand the 2nd phrase...it is TUGHAFAL.....it comes from GHAFLAT...GHAFIL...

Hum ne mana k taghaful na kro lekin...khaq ho jain ge hum tum ko khabar hone takk...

i agree that don't waste..time....BUT..i;ll turn to ash, before you get to knw..

  • This is really high class URDU that can not be translated till you get help with an Urdu scholar. I am good at Urdu but its hard for me also but will only try to correct the translation below.

"Hum ne mana ke TAGHAFUL na karo gay laikin".

I agree you wont be IGNORANT( means you will come straight after hearing about my death).

"Gham-e-Hasti ka Asad kis se ho JUZ MARG ilaag".

There is no cure of sadness but only death. (poet believes when you die all is over).

  • Shamma harr rang mein jalti hai seher hone takk.

(the Urdu conversion above is correct but the meaning is that you live your life in many ways till you die).

This is my favorite ghazal and I would say no one can write like Ghalib and no one can sing it like Jagjit. Great stuff.

  • one of my favourite ghazals.thanks for uploading man.jagjeet and ghalib rocks.

i always lissn to that ghazal when im all alone in a quiet room.thanks again for uploadin...
