  • love it! Diplo's song "Icarus" brought me here. Check it out, great use of the instrumental from this track.

  • bvlgari man the silver limited edition.

  • brilliant....just brilliant

  • it makes me sad when i share such beautiful music with friends who react in a way of boredom, completely oblivious to what they could be hearing if they really tried.

  • @AsphaltClub You have to remember that this is in no way pop music - its difficult for people to get their head around - play them some of his folk stuff instead its must more accessible. Just thank god that he was able to push boundaries in this way, this song accesses areas of your head that no other music can. I play cello - i hope i can learn off him

  • @AsphaltClub i feel the same as you my friend..if people would just listen and feel they would have knowledge of what real and good music is.

  • @silmalino Amen

  • @silmalino yes, I mean no one can tell anyone what definitive good music is but I just wonder how some people don't see the beauty in certain things. Sometimes I like to try to be that person who tries to amaze someone with something generally obscure and beautiful. It gets nowhere.

  • @AsphaltClub You're a fantastic human being if you are true to your word.

  • Check out the Youth edit of this track too. Great update of this classic.

  • wot can u say about this dude that hasnt already been said. man, the hairs on my neck are like a million little orgasms every time i hear that amazing voice and treated cello...true genius - a word that is far too overused these days!!!

  • I've been listening to this song for just over a year now and am proud to say that it has lost none of it's impact. Pure sonic emotion.

  • This is the first time I hear this song. I am a grown man, and I can't stop crying. But I feel so warm inside. What is happening to me?

  • @shuiyuki perhaps he is reincarnated in your body?

  • I was born the day this Man of Great Talent died.

  • Bloody Hell...never heard of him until watching the documentary Wild Combination the other night.

Now I'm obsessed...how many other musicians have been hidden from me that I have to find???

    Nick Drake meets Velvet Underground

  • @AlexGuy88 gimme a shout and i will introduce you to some fantastic music. i've been collecting music like this since i was 20, i'm now 33 - thats 13 years of collecting totally amazing music by the likes of Can, Coil, Dalek, Ulan Bator,The Pop Group, John Cale, Einsturzende Neubauten,This Heat, Les Rallizes Denudes, Boredoms, Battles, Current 93, Nurse with Wound, Neu! Gimme a shout man, would love to share some cool tunes wi you :0)

  • Why is this not on itunes :(

  • I find it really strange how no one I have met has even heard of Arthur Russell, but fear not - I'm spreading the love. This guy was a musical genius. Pure bliss to be able to stick this on and let your mind go blank

  • Chills

  • 18 people have poor taste

  • I wish I could go back to the day I first herd this song.

  • I can't tell you how much I love this song and adore this video that is a magnificent piece of work!

  • Simple greatness

  • i'm in love

  • love that faint drum beat you can hear when he starts singing

  • I really love the sounds he gets from his cello. And his voice! Strange but lovely

  • So uplifting.

  • 2:34 almost as scary as those strange voices in Art of Noise's Moments In Love :D

  • Mansions on the Moon brought me here

  • the old tv ad got me into this guy

  • thumbs up if the tv add got u into this guy.

  • Is Arthur playing music for hot angels?(16 dislikes are from dumbfucks)

  • Good stuff........

  • i've always had a thing for this song =)

  • what a grate track to chop !! going to download fl studio...

  • This is how...we listen to Arthur Russell.

  • Love t

  • This is a fantastic song - so joyous, but restrained. So emotive and expressive - it really makes me feel something.

And, dear poster, this is a brilliant video - the perfect complement. Please do similar work and share it.

  • where can I download this song, or his albums? :)

  • Wow. Brilliant video for this amazing song. I salute you!

  • haunting tune...synchronized nicely too. cheers mate

  • nicely done

  • ...<3

  • Wicked tune as well, of course. 15 peps don't like it: idiots.

  • Whoever made this video needs to think about a career in music video., This video is fucking wicked, the opening shot with Kennedy is especially iconic. Well done Sir/Madam.

  • Moon is a fucking sick film.

  • adorable

  • spectacular!

  • mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • sounds amazing

  • if you open about 3 tabs with this song and play them a few seconds (i did it about 8 seconds apart) apart it sounds amazing.

  • Beautiful and haunting. This is true music.

  • Arthur Russell was not a genius

  • @chillpullman ooowww controversial

  • @chillpullman your life must be true shit

  • @chillpullman agree

even more boring than the Pink Floyd

  • @vinobody

wat .. i love PF and this video

  • which album is this on

  • 'Another Thought'

  • And the lyrics - so powerful when in the context of his battle with aids. Every step is about overcoming problems, of becoming wiser and more developed in our character. The video - a representation of how far humans can go, but also symbolic of how powers seek to extend their image towards a god-like status amongst atheist society. but we must remember that 'every step is moving us up' - the step does not have to be a great one for mankind, it can also be a personal one in the fight for life.

  • well spoken brother

  • @TbgO ..should have included those profound words in your paper.

  • sshhhh

  • @TbgO “A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.” Lao Tzu. Include that quote at the end, and you have a very well rounded paragraph.

  • @TbgO how true, bless you :)

  • on repeat. for days. without boredom. i am immersed. i am exhilarated. i have handed in a 5000 word paper in a week late because of this man. but i don't care.

  • @TbgO if I were your teacher and you wrote it was late because you kept listening to Arthur Russell, I wouldn't deduct any points.

  • may he rest in peace..

  • goose bumps!

  • Can someone explain this song to me please?

  • Thank you for posting this video — it never ceases to amaze me. This song is pure genius. The more I think about it the less I can fathom it.

  • so ahead of his time

  • nice nice song where can i get this

  • nearlly as good as schoolbell treehouse

  • What a powerful song this is.

  • it definately should not end at 2 30. fool.

  • Lol, i don't why but this song reminds me of the forest temple in Zelda OoT. Well the first part does.

    Nice song

  • sung with spirit

    gorgeous

  • beautiful music.

  • I love that part, I think it's perfect.

  • It's a lovely song .

but is it just me that kinda wishes that he stoped it at 2:30 ?

  • Best song ever!

    fact!

  • i don't think it is too literal, punkyhiphopdood ... To the contrary, i think there is a poetry between the lyrics and the pictrures.

    This is so aeriiiiiiiiialllllllllllllllllllll...

  • lower me down slowly

  • the movie about this guy is a brilliant. so all you arthur russell fans, go rent the movie "Wild Combination: A Portrait of Arthur Russell"

    5/5

  • this is nice.

  • Top tune, love it. Can you get it on itunes or amazon? had a look and can't seem to find it

  • Very hard to get hold of Arthur Russells stuff sadly. I've had the same problems.

  • I managed to get it on iTunes ages ago. Think I've had it for around a year... Unless they've removed it :(

  • my favourite

  • Beautiful song. I cried and got shivers, damn. Very emotional. Love the cello. (that's what it is right?)

  • i'm very impressed for the video you've made, i think it's perfect. first home made video for a song with good taste i've seen on youtube

  • Perhaps. A little bit too literal though i think, you know, seeing as this song isn't anything to do with actually walking on the moon.

  • I think using literal imagery actually allows the lyrics to be more poetic.

  • That's kind of what I thought when I put it together.

  • Check out: dinosaur L, Felix and Killer Whale, they are all Arthur.

  • Maarten Mees ten Oever

  • so good

  • I love this. What a beautiful voice and chello! What album should I get?

  • World of Echo is is his best record. Completely amazing. It's all his ethereal solo stuff though. If you want a better variety, start with The World of Arthur Russell, his best compilation.

  • Well, then I ordered the right record, cause I got World of Echo in the mail today! Also got Calling out of Context. For some it might seem light, ambient, but for me it is so strong, so true and - yes poetic.

  • i bought one called "springfield"... very disappointing. sort of a later collection of unreleased stuff (?) ... anyway it was really housy with that awful late 80's 3 chord house piano (not my thing anyway).

nothing like this or the avant garde disco of Dinosaur L.

  • All the things he´s done - it's so different from each album to another and from any thing else. My advice is to NEVER bye a compilation unless you know it's a good one.

  • Tune. Nuff said

  • is that a video done by russell or just a fan video?

  • Fan video

  • did u make the video? if so very very well done!

  • I combined the song with various old stock footage. Thanks

  • great job. really. mr. russell would have liked it.

  • Now this is a beautiful and haunting song. Truly a work of genius especially the last minute with the weird vocals.

  • wow, this is the first time i've ever heard this and think its great.. This song must have influenced plenty of bands because it reminds me of so many newer songs...

  • What an awesome track, calms a stormy soul!

  • a feel good tune.

  • No it's not.

It's amazing but how can 'thiis is how...we walk on the moon' not scare the shit out of you.

It sends shivers down my back. I love it though. Don't get the wrong impression.

  • yeah I'm definitely not getting any shivers...I guess I don't cower easy...thus..a feel good tune.

  • if it's not how you hear it, leveretis, then that's NOT what it is. remember that. it's a good attitude to have, especially good to carry your entire life.

  • Sarcasm is funny.

  • best tooon ever

  • love this track

  • he sings just like anthony hegarty out of anthony and the johnsons's, except he's really good

  • antony hegarty is amazing mate. no question.

  • lots of things are amazing, anthony hegarty isn't one of them

  • Funny!!

  • Anthony hegarty has worked with Lou Reed, Bjork, Rufus Wainright and Brian Ferry, who are all amazing.

He also has a Mercury award for best album. Surely he ain't that bad!

  • fair enough, but I personally find him whiny and annoying. so maybe bad isn't the right word, more not to my tastes

  • fuck madamerica the united states of piss

    i love americans

  • This is a poor video... it focus too much on the moon, although this is the song title, I doubt it is what the song is truly about at all.

  • hell yeah i agree totaly with the below

  • I read about this man in Out magazine.

And this song is changing my life, I can feel it. In ten years when I listen to it, it's going to mean so much more. The mark of a true genius.

    Absolutely inspiring.

  • when his voice goes strange, its the best bit i love it, i put just that bit on repeat to hear his distorted voice. This song is amazing!

  • Beautiful music. Hope to see the documentary.

  • the doco is great, I managed to see it at the Auckland Film Festival..

  • I'm gonna see it saturday!! can't wait!

  • amazing.

  • beautiful

  • very cool viddy!

    BIG!

  • Cardboardboat was that viscious comment directed at me ? if so i do not understand why since i was merely expressing an opinion.

  • The bit where it says "This is how we walk on the mooN" sounds just totally out of time with the rest of the song , and the trumpet part ruins the song in my opinion :(

  • it's nice how you feel you can criticise him when you have no musical ability or understanding of his mindset.

  • What was his mindset, then?

It's nice how you feel you can speak for Mr Russell.

  • you guys are awesome.

  • he's a genius

  • every step is moving me up...

great tune from a brilliant album!

  • It's almost perfect until this is how we walk on the moon...

  • innit.. totally contradicts the whole feeling of the song...

  • i really thought this was anthony hegarty when i first heard it.

  • check my page ive done a remix of this tune, waiting for it to be accepted as a video responce...

  • what a wicked tune.ive been trying to find this for ages, thankyou youtube.makes you think and go into youre own world.

  • its actually every step is moving me UP

  • whhay quality tune!

  • Every step is moving me on too. Ace work

  • an amazing musician. Greatly underachknoledged. RIP

  • under-rated?

  • There will be a documentary about this guy Arthur Russell.

  • Hey what genre is this music? Thanks...

  • just found this tune the other day. Love it! Trippy.

  • When he die? Cant remember...cheers.

  • i believe it April 4, 1992, he was fourty, or bout to turn forty...he sadly died of AIDS...

  • Thank you. lol, finally someone replied. Only took 9 months. Haha.

  • Great job with the visual element. I think it added to the song: somewhat comical, somewhat sad. Thanks.

  • This sonog is amense!

  • tune and a 1/2

  • totaly different to what i would listen to but i love it

  • does anyone know the guitar tabs/chords for this amazing song??? please reply asap. Thanks

  • Beautiful. Arthur Russell was (RIP) a wonderful, eccentric avant garde New York composer and musician. He saw wonder in all kinds of music that was happening in NYC in the late 70s and into the 80s. He utilized themes from neo-classical, minimalist, rock, folk and disco/funk genres. Not many people see music as such an open palette.

  • i love it, its bare safe all ma breadbins. have some 'spect' for your south-southend,breadbins.gr8 song lol.

  • loveths song soo calming lol off the t mobile advert xxx

  • lovely song....sad that hes not with us anymore
