This guy was born in London, has been living in the UK since 10 years old (before that in the then Crown Colony of Hong Kong). He is an Etonian. The reason why he rides for China is that with his ability he cannot get a gig at the UK Equestrian team which includes Zara Phillips. The only Chinese about him is his name.
If the only Chinese thing about him was his name, he wouldn't be eligible to represent China, would he?. He has a Chinese father, he spent his early childhood in Beijing & he speaks Mandarin. He has said (in Mandarin) that he considers himself to be Chinese. And BTW Hong Kong ceased to be a Crown Colony when he was 7 years old.
(True,he wouldn't get into the GB team but according to Wikipedia he's ranked 21st in the world according to Wikipedia, which isn't bad.)
What's more, I believe that he's a Chinese citizen & does not have even dual British nationality. Therefore I don't think he could compete for GB anyway.
