  • It is indeed a Johnny Moynihan song, he recorded it with Sweeneys Men (Andy Irvine and Joe Dolan) and later Anne Briggs covered it on her album. I saw Johnny perform this in a pub session....in his unique way, his inimitable drawl and it was the saddest, most profound and utterly honest thing I think I have ever witnessed. A true legend.

  • @kevtyrrell Thanks very much for confirming this, I'll update the info section.

  • Splendido arrangiamento!! fan from Italy:)

  • Thanks very much, Stefano

  • Splendidly rendered, and you helped me out with the guitar part : )

  • Cheers, glad you like it.

    Best wishes

    John

  • Fantastic stuff. Any chance you could tell me the tuning?

  • Thanks, it's in standard tuning with the bass to D.

  • That easy, huh? Boy do i feel sheepish. Thanks man.

  • That easy, but I'm not surprised that you ask given the number of tunings that I've been using ;o)

  • nice work.

  • Cheers

  • ohhh thanks for this

  • You're welcome :o) Thanks for the visit.

  • nice interprétation ;)

  • Thanks :)

  • Hello sir,

I play folk music with my boyfriend and best friend, and I wondered if you know more about the sources of this song. Is it a traditional, or is it written by Sweeney's Men? We like it very much, and we have made our own version, but we're not sure if we allowed to cover it just like that.

    Regards,

    Saskia

  • It was written by Johnny Moynihan of Sweeney's Men.

  • Are you absolutely sure about that? ;)

  • Hi Saskia, I'm afraid that I'm not sure about this one. It seems to be most frequently credited to Johnny Moynihan of Sweeney's Men.

  • Alright, thank you :)

  • i heard it was written after an lsd trip or a heavy smoke of mary jane. perhaps someone can enlighten us about that. a good song.

  • You're quite good sir! Cheers to you!

  • A wonderful version. Thank you!

    All the best,

    Winnie.

  • Thanks very much, Winnie

    all the best

    John

  • OOh, I'll look forward to it, thanks. xx

  • This is just beautiful!

Any chance of you doing living by the water? :)

    xx

  • Thanks, I'll have to take a look at Living By The Water, it'll need to be re-arranged for guitar, but that'll be fun.

    all the best

    John

  • really really good

  • Thanks very much :)

  • I'm expecting The Time Has Come in the near future. ; )

  • I think Time Has Come is just a bluesy progression of an E5, an A and an E. I'm also guessing that Anne Briggs version has the capo on the first fret and the Jansch & Renbourn version is played with it on the second.

  • My guitar is tuned to DADGAD at the moment and that is that :)) Can't change it for another week or so - that would be breaking the unwritten law !
