فقلت في نفسي: والله لأختبرن عمل ذلك الإنسان، فعسى أن أوفّق لعمل مثل عمله، فأنال هذا الفضل العظيم أن النبي أخبرنا أنه من أهل الجنة في أيامٍ ثلاثة، فأتى إليه عبد الله بن عمرو فقال: يا عم، إني لاحيت أبي – أي خاصمت أبي – فأردت أن أبيت ثلاث ليال عندك، آليت على نفسي أن لا أبيت عنده، فإن أذنت لي أن أبيت عندك تلك الليالي فافعل، قال: لا بأس، قال عبد الله: فبت عنده ثلاث ليال، والله ما رأيت كثير صلاةٍ ولا قراءة، ولكنه إذا انقلب على فراشه من جنب إلى جنب ذكر الله، فإذا أذن الصبح قام فصلى،
فلما مضت الأيام الثلاثة قلت: يا عم، والله ما بيني وبين أبي من خصومة، ولكن رسول الله ذكرك في أيامٍ ثلاثة أنك من أهل الجنة، فما رأيت مزيد عمل!! قال: هو يا ابن أخي ما رأيت، قال: فلما انصرفت دعاني فقال: غير أني أبيت ليس في قلبي غش على مسلم ولا أحسد أحداً من المسلمين على خير ساقه الله إليه، قال له عبد الله بن عمرو: تلك التي بلغت بك ما بلغت، وتلك التي نعجز عنها[1].
