It could be that Jacob merely bought the land whereupon the sepulcher of his grandfather stood. This explanation certainly is feasible.
Various scholars (Adam Clarke, J.W. McGarvey, Albert Barnes, et al.) have presented a good case for the idea that the mistake should not be attributed to Stephen, but rather to a copyists error. However, there are other possibilities that are equally plausible. McGarvey correctly observed: Two statements are contradictory not when they differ, but when they cannot both be true (1886, 2:31).
But what may be said regarding the second mistake that Stephen is supposed to have made—that Abraham bought the tomb in Shechem, whereas the Old Testament states that it was Jacob who did the buying? The possibility exists that this is a case which falls into the second category mentioned above—i.e., that Stephens statements themselves were accurate, but subsequently were recorded or copied incorrectly.
The proud Jews, therefore, would have done anything—perhaps even going so far as to falsify history—to keep from having to admit that their ancestors were buried in their enemys land. This actually lends credibility to Stephens statement. Given the choice of two answers, one popular but untrue, the other true but unpopular, Stephen doubtlessly would have chosen the latter.]
[The idea that the patriarchs were buried in Shechem, however, was neither popular nor representative of the common Jewish thought of the day. In fact, Josephus and other Jewish historians suggested that the fathers were buried at Hebron. And there is a very good reason why they would say such a thing. The Samaritans—the Jews bitterest rivals—had seized Shechem.
(e.g., Kuinoel) held to the view that the fathers were buried at Shechem (1949, p. 124). In addition, Jerome, a fourth-century writer from Palestine, stated: The twelve patriarchs were buried not in Arbes [Hebron—AB/KB], but in Shechem (as quoted in Barnes, p. 124).
And while the Old Testament does not record the burial places for many of the other patriarchs, we can glean some information from secular history on the subject. In his discussion on Acts 7, the well-known commentator Albert Barnes mentioned that some Jewish historians
McGarveys point was this. If Jacob was buried at Machpelah in Hebron (and of that there is no doubt, since Genesis 49:29-30 so states), then Stephen must have been saying that it was the fathers alone who were buried in Shechem, not Jacob. This is quite possible. We know that at least one of the fathers—Joseph—was buried in Shechem (Joshua 24:32).
With this rendering and punctuation, which are certainly admissible, the contradiction totally disappears; and if the passage had been thus rendered at first into English, a contradiction would not have been thought of (1892, p. 121, emp. added, italics in orig.).
The plural substantive fathers is not the subject of that verb, but of the plural eteleutasan understood. The construction having been changed with the introduction of the plural subject, it follows that the plural verb metetéthasan, were carried, belongs to fathers, and not to Jacob. The two clauses, properly punctuated, and with the ellipsis supplied, read thus: and he died; and our fathers died, and were carried over into Shechem.
As the two clauses stand in our version, he died, himself, and our fathers; and they were carried over into Shecham, there can be no doubt that himself and fathers are common subjects of one verb died, and that the pronoun they before were carried refers to both alike. But it is not so in the original. The construction is different. The verb rendered died is in the singular number, eteleutasen, and it agrees only with autos, himself.
His 1881 volume, Lands of the Bible, was considered a classic, even in its day, and remains so today. In his commentary on the New Testament book of Acts, McGarvey provided an excursion into the Greek text that helps immensely in explaining the contradiction posed by Stephens statement.
On occasion, when the English text seems unclear or appears to contradict itself, it often is beneficial to be able to examine the original language in which the passage was written. This is one such instance. One of the leading biblical scholars (some have suggested he was the leading biblical scholar) of his day was J.W. McGarvey, whose knowledge of both the languages and the customs of the biblical lands was without peer.
But they never got their chance, as is evident from the fact that they had to suborn perjury via false witnesses (vss. 11,13) and eventually take up stones to kill him. That, then, leaves only two options as to the nature of the alleged contradictions: (1) The things Stephen said really were true, but only appear to us to be mistakes; or (2) Stephens statements were accurate, but subsequently were recorded or copied incorrectly.

Remember that Stephen was speaking before an extremely hostile crowd that was filled with knowledgeable Jews who composed the Sanhedrin—men who would have been desirous of proving him wrong since he had impugned both their motives and their integrity.
What is the answer to the critics suggestion that Stephen erred when he mentioned Shechem as Jacobs burial place, since it was common knowledge that Jacob had, in fact, been buried in Machpelah? And how do we respond when critics allege that Stephen committed a second error because he suggested that Abraham purchased the tomb in which Jacob was buried?
Consider, for example, his mentioning Jacobs death. Everyone present would have been intimately familiar with the story of Jacobs funeral, which was a remarkable event involving the two nations of Egypt and Israel (Genesis 50:1-13). It was then, and is now, an established fact that Jacob was buried at Machpelah in Hebron (Genesis 49:29-30).

The bible and the Quran both have horrible disgusting texts in them. As soon as you point them out you are "cherry picking" or youre taking it out of context. The texts always mean whatever the religious person wants it to mean, because only they ofcourse understand its meaning.
There is no historical proof for any holy book either. You might as well dig up a book in Egypt that has texts about god and believe that and build a faith around that. Be rational, grants better judgement.

Eventually people will want the return of Biblical law which is more harsh than Sharia law. As Biblical law was the law of the land for many ages until a few hundred years ago. In the KJV of I John 5:7, it talks about the so called "trinity". It reads:

Romans 3:7 "If the truth of God hath more abounded through my [lie] unto his glory, why yet am I also judged as a sinner?"
Now according to that verse, Paul (who never existed either by the way) in his "OWN" words admitted he Lied!
He basically saying, hey guys if you've achieved ALL of these things as a result of "BELIEVING" the things I MADE UP in these verses, why are y'all blaming me?

Romans 16:25 "Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to [my] gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began.
He never even existed, but he's clearly ADMITTING to those who of U who are bible believers, that "ALL" of this stuff that he's speakin' about in these verses, he MADE IT UP!!

II Timothy 2:8 Hammers the nail in the coffin because it basically states that the ENTIRE idea of Jesus being raised from the dead, was a concept that he (paul) made up!

Check out what biblical scholars say in the footnotes regarding that verse in the NIV bible:
At the end of this verse, older english versions [add] the words found in the NIV text notes. But the addition is [NOT found] in [any] Greek manuscript or New Testament translation, [PRIOR to] the 16th century."

They're ADMITTING this concept of the TRINITY was ADDED to the bible, because there's NO MENTIONING of it in ANY of the ORIGINAL manuscripts from which it's "ALLEGEDLY' translated from LOL!!

Gen 5:5 Adam lived 930 years.
Gen 50:13 Jacob was buried in a cave at Machpelah
Acts 7:15-16 He was laid in a tomb at Shechem
Ex 3:1 Jethro is Moses step-father
Num 10:29, Juges 4:11 Hobab is Moses step-father

According to this verse, "Jacob" is Jesus' grandfather.
Luke 3:23 - "And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli."
Who's Jesus' Grandfather? Jacob or Heli? LOL!!

II Chronicles 36:9 King Jo-hoi'-a-chin was 8 years old when he ruled Jerusalem.
II Kings 24:8, he was 18 years old when he ruled Jerusalem.
II chronicles 22:2 A-ha-zi'-ah was 40 & 2 years old when he reigned.
II Kings 8:26 he was 2 & 20 years old when he reigned.
Can God be seen by man?
Isiah 6:1, Genesis 32:30 & Exodus 33:11 & 22 says yes he can.

And U wanna call the bible "Authentic"? Credible? Or my favorite, "Holy". LOL!! One bible has 66 books in it. Another one has 72 books in it. There's even a book called the "Forgotten Books Of The Bible"! Then there's another one called the "Lost Books" of the bible..hell, who lost them? And why did they lose them?
Which one are U gonna use to convince people of your argument, when they ALL contradict each other? LOL!!

This is clear and when it comes to seeing God as well vary simple. God the father in his spirit no one can see we can not see a spirit as men and his holiness would destroy us. But God dwelling in the form of Christ Jesus we can see and hear and in the old testament when God walked in the garden with Adam when he visited Abraham when he gave the law to Moses that was in the form of Jesus Christ the man but God the father no one has seen except Christ.

by the fact that you will not read my answer before asking more questions shows to me what I originally believed about you. Your asking questions not because you want answers but to try and prove the Bible wrong and even if I answer all of them you will bring up more and I answer them and you bring up more and more. Everyone I can answer no problem but your not asking them to learn anything like pretty much all Atheist.

I know the history of them!! U can't run that bullshit on me because I know better..
U can't even tell me the historical "Origin" of these religions or the religious books that promote them, so how are U gonna ask me to believe ANYTHING U have to say on the matter LOL!!

U have a built in defense mechanism that DOESN'T allow for U to accept ANYTHING other than what your religious teachings says is the truth, while having "NO" FACTUAL evidence to verify its doctrines whatsoever..U accept as FACT, that which U CANNOT PROVE, but yet you'll attack & reject people with EVIDENCE supporting what they say just because U can't DISPROVE them
