ALL FILIPINOS -- DON'T MATTER IF YOU'RE FIL-AM, FOB, OR WHATEVER -- SHOULD BE PUT INTO GAS CHAMBERS AND KILLED OFF LIKE THE WORTHLESS ANIMALS THAT YOU ALL ARE! OR, BETTER YET, FILIPINOS SHOULD GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE U.S. AND ALL OTHER COUNTRIES ACROSS THE WORLD, AND GO BACK TO YOUR THIRD WORLD SHITLAND SO WE CAN DROP A NUKE ON YOU STUPID, DUMB FUCKERS!
It's normal filipino people are weak because they are used to be dumped. They been dumped by the Spanish and dumped by their father and the mother leave them to go to work in another country.
at least they recognize where they came from. for example, there are chinese people who refuse to call themselves a "chinese" but "taiwanese", who i consider a fully chinese with different flag, but for some reason they don't want to be chinese (probably ashamed of the communism). they're really 100% chinese, but they deny it and call themselves a "taiwanese". so they don't recognize that they're chinese. pure IDENTITY CRISIS. plz DON'T be like them! be proud of yourselves, unlike the chinese.
@bazooka9303 Running dogs aka taiwanese are not real chinese period. ROC means republic of china its an ethnicity issue not politics. If you call taiwanese chinese most of them get angry. They dont want to be chinese. They want to be japanese or white or whatever.
@ordosincorporated they're 100% chinese with fucked up identity/mentality. i mean there is no such thing as "taiwanese" wtf. that ethnicity never have exist. and i would love to call them chinese (i actually do) because it's a fact and if they get angry and wanna fight me for that, bring it ON they are WEAK. hahaha
the fact is that tagalog is not a requirement to live any where else on earth, so don't speak it just to confuse others or show off about the fact that you speak a second language
To all Filipino parents in Western countries: Despite your busy schedule working for the future of your family, never give in to speaking English just so your children can understand you. And NEVER accept if you speak Tagalog and they answer in English. Teaching your children Tagalog in another country is an uphill battle, and so extra effort should always be exerted.
To the kids of Immigrant Filipinos: FORCE YOURSELF to SPEAK Tagalog. The language is a big part of being FIlipino.
@leandrus86 I was born and raised here in the US and I can speak Tagalog fluently because I believe that a person isn't completely Filipino if they don't speak Tagalog. Out of all my cousins that were born and raised here in US, I'm the only one who can speak Tagalog and for that they make fun of me and say I never speak normal.
@leandrus86 What suddenly makes Tagalog the main determining factor to being Filipino? What if these parents speak Cebuano, Ilokano or Hiligaynon? Aren't they also languages of the Philippines? Should these children learn Tagalog even if they're parents don't originally speak it? Similar to how some Filipinos view English as imperialist, Tagalog is the imperialist one for me; forced upon the other regions and now people mistake it to be THE language of our country. And I'm Tagalog.
I grew up in the Philippines but now work in Canada. I think the bottom line is this: Asian cultures are WAY DIFFERENT than Western Cultures. Asians are collectivists: they value togetherness, deference to elders, helping each other, and interdependence, while Western cultures are individualists who value independence, protecting your individual rights, and speaking your own mind more.
The conflict arises when collectivist parents raise their children in an individualist culture.
I'm Peruvian, I was born in Peru, grow up in Japan now I live in Canada, I still speak spanish, but even that I don't live in Peru, I am 100% Peruvian. and I am teaching my kids to love my country too. even they know they are Canadians. but you can be part of a culture and love a place by heart. I love my country but also I love to be here in Canada. which is now my home. I think those Filipinos that don't speak Tagalog they are still Filipinos by heart and they are part of the culture
Who gives a fuck! Just b/c you are filipino you HAVE TO know how to speak tagalog, or any other variation? I'm filipino and all I know are bad words. It's like most filipinos in the philippines have this grudge against "Fil-Ams" b/c they are not displaying typical filipino behavior. Their accent is different, they act a certain way, and they're pissed because they've strayed from how most filipinos act in the philippines. WHO GIVES A SHIT! Let it go. Damn, why is this even a discussion?
@ArchieOwnzYou11 Yes it is. You're not Filipino if you don't speak Tagalog or any of the dialects. Look at me, I speak Tagalog and I was born and raised here. I only started speaking it a few years ago when I realized that I'm not completely Filipino. I've only been to the Philippines for less than a month in my entire life. I look down on the Filipino-AMERICANS who don't speak Tagalog and think they're more superior.
Kala ko dito lang naga-away-away or di nagkakasundo ang mga Filipino, kahit pala sa ibang bansa mga Pinoy ganun din. Nakakalungkot naman. Parang nakikita ko na talaga ang problema nating mga Pinoy.
Pinoy pride..... you guys should just to Australia everybody respect everybody equally and there's no debate out here.... MERRY CHRISTMAS to use all....
This is a funny debate I have to say filipinos in general are very prideful to each other FOB or Phil-Am it doesnt matter which boondocks you are born, Speak tagalog or just understand tagalog it doesnt matter. If you go to filipino parade or any gathering everyone will show off against each other its part of pinoy blood.
being filipino doesnt mean you have to act a certain way,, just like here in the US, there are different types of ppl, like the hipster, the goths, the potheads, gangstas and some other types, but theyre still all american, this argument is dumb as fuck, and "real filipinos" shouldnt bash on us just cuz were not the same as them... this is like the first time ive heard of the word fob lol, i rep being filipino here in america, i even wear a filipino flag fitted cap to school.
The Filipinos (along with Thailand, Indonesia, etc.) are what is so-called "jungle asians." They are less intelligent than the "east asians" (i.e., Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, etc.), which makes them poor economically, but makes up for it by being more athletic, robust, and having bigger dicks. In fact, most "jungle asians" have bigger and more rugged hands than "east asians" since they evolved to survive in the jungle rather than to think like the "east asians".
I've read some discussions on this topic of why Filipinos in America deny being Asian. One Filipino said is it's because Filipinos would rather be Polynesians than to be Filipino. Is that right? Every Filipino party I have been to have Polynesian dancers but never do they have a traditional Filipino dance.
i am American, married to a Filipina, first, i love all the Pinoy, i have been there and love the openness and honesty of the people there, it is sad to me that the pride of the ways and principles of the general population are not celebrated instead of some arbitrary idea of essence, as an American i cannot say i am a pure strain of American any more than any other culture that has been immigrated
Both parties shut the fuck up. Live each day as you! My mom is filipina and my dad is white as snow but i have ideals of both! Mabuhay and chill people!
@driftartist Your mom is filipina and ur dad is white? well that just means both ur parents are white. since ur mom is filipina, that means she is from Spain (Peninsulares) who seattled in the oriental islands that she named "Philippines" after her king and colonized it. Filipina: Los Peninsulares de las Islas Filipinas= Filipinos, Filipinas.... so yeah by that criteria u laid out, ur a 100% european
@noypipi you got so many things wrong. "filipina" is the feminine form of "filipino", the names being the official demonym for the people of philippines today. "philippines" is the anglicisation of the spanish "filipinas", the former being coined during the US period. the spanish explorer Ruy López de Villalobos christened the name "Felipinas" after Felipe (english: Philip) II of spain, which eventually became "Las Islas Filipinas" to the present "Pilipinas (Tagalog)" and "Philippines (English)"
@FiIipinoUnqqoy I don't want to generalise about all Filipinos but all the Filipinos I have met are historically unaware of this. And not a few have told me they were Muslims before the Spanish came - as if replacing one conqueror for another is a source of pride. Why isn't the Government of the Philippines teaching it's people their pre-Christian, pre-Islam, native culture and beliefs? They don't even seem to know their Austronesian heritage. What is the reason for this?
@Optimusnorm only those from mindanao were muslims before the spaniards, those from luzon & visayas were animists. the muslim supremacists just want to spread a deception that we were all muslims before & condemn any form of christianity, it is based on propaganda, ie. abu sayaf. i for 1 am glad the islam did not spread to luzon, i have respect for muslims but i wouldn't want to be one thank you.
Always felt sorry for Filipinos - a nation named for a foreign king who's people conquered them....what was the Philippines called before the Spanish invaded it?
@Optimusnorm at that time (prior to colonialism), as far as having a national name, the group of islands known today as the philippines was never in unison
Oh man those people are so ugly and stupid. Especially when they're talking their primitive language they're just making themselves worst. I'm sorry but it's disgusting.
Filipinos aren't even a real race.. Haha we're just a bunch of black, spaniard, and Chinese hybrids haha.. We're called Filipinos because we are offspring of a bunch of mixed people from a place called Philippines.
I was born in the Philippines and grew up in Sydney but Tagalog was not the language we spoke at home. So how does that make me a Filpino? When everything in Filipino is base on the Tagalog language. If everyone is regarded as Filipino wether in the PI or anywhere else in the world then we should recognise Filipinos are not just Tagalog. My ethnic background is Boholano and Ilocano, Would that disqualify me being called Filipino???
@FiIipinoUnggoy You're right becuase being called a Filipino has been an issue of disuntiy and separation amongst people just like in this video and to be honest with you it is kind of sad. I dont want to spark an argument but can you tell in your own words what is mean to be a Filipino and what does it signify? I clearly stated that everything in Filipino is in Tagalog But i bet you dont even considered Muslim in the southern Philippines as Filipinos not that I am one.
"in your own words what is mean to be a Filipino and what does it signify?"
you should be answering your own question. it was i pointing out its meaning and signification in regards to you. and besides, i do know what "Filipino" means/signifies --- i dont want my answer affecting your answer. get it?
and yes, i dont consider the muslims of the south as "Filipinos". in fact, even they don't cuz they're more "enlightened" as compared to Filipinos.... do you consider yourself a "Filipino"?
"...meaning and SIGNIFICATION..."?! kupal, magtagalog ka na lang. ang tama ay "...meaning and SIGNIFICANCE..." tanga! inglis-inglis ka pa, bobo ka naman!
@tilapiatinapa << < this pignoy monkey thinks he knows english ahihihi ^.^ ..wai is da ingglis gramor su imfortan tu yu pilifenos? bat yu ar da TURD worl cuntry yu si LOL
@p01pl4y you didn't answer my questions.... judging from your recent comments, you seem to be knowledgeable about philippine history, so i expect you to know what "Filipino" means
You know there is no such thing as fil-ams. They are americans, period. If europeans moved to the U.S, they dont' call themself italian american, bla bla bla, they are just americans and think like americans.
My kids are half filipino, I will ensure they are proud of both sides of their heritage. Be proud of where you come from, but don't forget where you come from
American culture that has breed self hate, and poverty? Where he get that idea. Many American jobs go to the Philippines. The US has brought jobs, so how does that cause poverty?
ITS SO SIMPLE IF YOUR FILIPINO WHO GREW UP IN AMERICA OF COURSE YOUR GOING BE HIGHER IN A WAY THAN THOSE WHO ARE FROM AND BORN IN ASIA IN THIS CASE PHILIPPINES. THE STYLE AND WAY OF LIVING IS WAY DIFFERENT COMPARED TO THERE. IM MEAN THEY COME FROM A 3RD WORLD COUNTRY, THERE STANDARDS ARE DIFFERENT THAN OURS(BORN AMERICAN'S). BUT IT DOESNT MEAN OVER ALL THAT ANYONE IS WAY BETTER THAN THE OTHER. ITS JUST TO MUCH TO SAY AND A WASTE OF TIME.
@surfer808hi Hey stupid! have u been outside u'r little world lately. i was born in the PI and i'm not really Filipino either, but what i notice that people that came from the philippines are more succesful here in Cali than Filipino from here, even if those FilAm become succesfull, its bcz of their (PINOYness)parent that put them there, not what u call higher standard here? What is a third World country? i'm sure when u answer this question that it'll show u'r higher standard of thinking right?
@totoynani143 "i was born in the PI and I'm not really Filipno" LOL as if Filipino was even a race... it really shows the low education standards in the filipin islands....
respect that(who usually are the political, social activists in the community) but to say I'm proud to be Filipino who rocks Filipino Pride Hats, shirts, and the like while getting mad and disgusted of a Filipino who raps in Tagalog/other native language and makes fun of their accent and make fun of them to make themselves feel better and tell them that they bring shame to the rest of us(but they really mean just Fil-Ams) is what is wrong with Fil-Am youth today.
later on Southern Europe like the Greeks and the Italians. Also the tension arises from Colonial Mentality and Inferiority Complex which has been a hindrance to the advancement of the Filipino people as a whole. I have read books of the Katipunan and articles of great leaders like Gabriela and Diego Silang and The boy general Gregorio del Pilar. I understand that there are some Fil-Ams who are content with displaying their pride regardless that they do not speak Tagalog/native languages and I...
Milpitas, and the like whenever there is a sizable Filipino community that Fil-Ams,Filipinos take this for granted while places where Filipinos are scarce say North Carolina or Nebraska Filipinos/Fil-Ams feel more of a bond of course this also is true regarding other nationalities/ethnicities when they see a person like themselves amidst the majority in that part of the country. One thing that this reminds me of are the nativists of the 19th century and the immigrants from Ireland and(continued)
long story short: I was part of the revival of the Filipino club yet since I transferred to a 4-year it has gone inactive and isn't recognized by the college due to the inactivity which means it needs to be revived(again). Over where I transferred I am seriously considering of starting a Filipino club and that I wouldn't have to worry about it being inactive because majority of the students live on-campus. I have also observed that in places like Carson(CA),Daly City, National City, Eagle Rock,
I don't understand their reaction, they should be embracing it. Instantly, they might think I'm a "Fob" which is a derogatory term I might add. I was a cultural chair for the Filipino club at the previous college I attended and when I stumbled upon this vid this piqued my interest for these are the issues/topics which most interest me as how one defines him/herself as Filipino/Fil-Am. During my freshman year, I was hoping I would find the Filipino club but there was none. This boggled my mind...
It seems I have gone on a tangent, well I certainly see a rift between Filipinos and Fil-Ams...the movie "Lumpia" epitomized the "Fob vs. Fil-Am" tension in the early 90's which was most prevalent. Now, it is not as bad but there are still instances which occur. I have recently moved to Union City,CA from Fremont,CA and have noticed whenever I drive around slappin someTagalog/Ilocano rap I would check my rear-view mirror and see a disgusted and irritated Fil-Am or Filipino.(continued)
after two years of practicing with my parents/lolos and lolas/relatives/etc. repeating what they say and scouring online for Ilocano/Filipino media I am now where I am, my Ilocano is proficient enough to get me by if I go back to the Ilocos. My Tagalog however is still hella bad.My number one reason to re-learn Ilocano was I wanted to rap in Ilocano after stumbling on a site named Soundclick and a handful of Ilocano rap songs which blew my mind.(literally) I got fed up with mainstream(continued)
Ok I'm one of the more atypical Filipinos because since day one my family speaks in our native language/dialect all day.(I was born in La Union, a province in the Ilocos Region aka Region 1) I did however lost the ability to speak in Ilocano and Tagalog(if any) gradually due to the need for me to learn English and of course the endless barrage of American mass media. I retained the ability to understand yet felt incomplete so I decided in earnest to re-learn my native tongue....(see next post)
FOB = Fresh off the Boat = used to describe immigrants that have arrived from a foreign nation and have not yet assimilated into the host nation's culture, language, and behavior.
It's really sad to see a bunch of Filipinos fighting against each other like this. I'm a Filipino too and i think that those abroad should help each other out. You know what I mean?
I'm a Zamboangeno so I know a little Spanish. Even though we speak a little spanish we don't try to become one, but we are proud of being able to speak the language and try to improve on it. The same goes for those in this video. They speak english but they don't try to become one.
In the end, you are who you want to be. My mom is from the P.I., but I can't speak a word of tagalog. Do I feel "empty" or not having a sense of who I am? No. I'm going to do what makes me happy.
@noypipi and you said before you were protestant right? well who introduced christianity (roman catholicism) to the phils? spaniards. more so, who introduce protestantism to phils? WHITE AMERICANS. you know,, you should thank them...LOL
historically and in essence, filipinos are christians. prior to christianity.....people in the phils practiced animism, hinduism, buddhism, and of course islam. you are nowhere in touch with your roots.. which still makes you a filipino. rolf.. swallow the truth.
@j176id37 what now.. are you mad just cuz you cant answer a simple question? seeing that you cant, you go on criticizing my grammar - NO ONE GIVES A SHIT, GOT IT? this is youtube baby... you filipons are pitiful. ROFL
@FiIipinoUnggoy Wow even your spelling is just abysmal.. first of all, your question did not make sense and I'm not obliged to answer. As you said, this is youtube and i can do all the fuck i want.. even criticize your faults. We're not pitiful, you are.. I'm not the one going around lambasting other nationalities.
@j176id37 it dont matter what you say, nigga... you're still a pitiful and dumb filipon failing to answer the question.. ROLF dont forget to stop by........ ^_^
@j176id37 is filipino ur nationality? I just answered the same question unggoy is asking u on this channel.. all u got to do is read. but i must warn u that the answer might make u bleed.
@Unggoy I see u keep asking the same shit.. but obviously many dont know. i answered hoping that u would stop asking that question.. cuz who r u to ask that question to make people realize something whn ur just another uncultured americunt nigger who admitted that u like being a child prostitute to ur masters
i see what you mean.. but enough of your pointless insults. heres some new questions for you.... 1) what is your nationality? 2) do you see yourself as a filipino? and 3) since you claim to know what filipino means,, then can you tell me? salamat again in advance..! ^_^
@FiIipinoUnggoy filipino derives from filipinas which in turn derives from the bitches of Philip II. therefore "filipinos" r those who r subjects to spanish crown. So no, im not filipino.. I derive from my ancestors whom are either timawa(freed commoners), mahaldika(warriors or nobility), or even rajanate family class of my archipelago's society. Unggoy.. ur a filipino.. u want china to take over, that shows u have the old inferior mentality that filipinos have.. subjugation undr foreign rule
@noypipi lol, you're so serious nigga.. but i applaud you for your knowledge about "filipino", in this case you're correct..
however in the case of "mahaldika".. did you know that their are indonesians and malaysians with that as their last names? spelled as "mahardika".. i remember you mentioning "maharlika", but why "mahaldika" now? care to explain how you got that?
@noypipi these 3 words (maharlika/mahaldika/mahardika) are derived from sanskrit. in bahasa melayu and indonesia,, there is a similar word "merdeka" derived from sanskrit as well....and they share similar meanings. so tell me.. if you were to change the name of "philippines" and identity, what would it be?
The comments here saddens me. I know a couple of guys living in the Philippines who are non-Filipino yet love the culture and the country; I consider them more Filipino than some of the commenters here. What's even worse is the hate lol; Filipino's talking s*** about fobs or the Philippines, yet put on a Pac-Man shirt whenever's there's a fight - talk about hypocrisy.
@Igorbolsheviks88 wtf, philippinese isnt even a word you dumb fuck. Before you start insulting an ENTIRE country , try not to make your self look stupid. People like you shouldnt even talk.
philippinese are the dumbest and ugliest people one could imagine, they are simply the lowest definition of human being and to be considered a philippinese is the most dehumanizing word.
Why do we brag about a Filipino you don't even know personally when it achieves a world famous reputation? Filipinos should learn to accept one another no matter
"There are no "pure" Filipinos since the year the Spanish occupied Philippines."
I hear that a lot from Filipinos like you; however, I do get what you're trying to say. But what exactly do you mean by saying there are no "pure" Filipinos? Care to explain? Are you saying that ALL Filipinos, like yourself, have foreign ancestry? Are you saying you have Spanish ancestry?
"american sucks!!! with their fucking culture!!!!!!!!!! loser!!!! dont even know how to play football, even basketball they lose to turkey and filipino kick ass of the americans in billiards, dragonboat, boxing, dancing, hiphop dancing, singing and many more.........."
Man, you're as dumb as a stump. I'll bet my money that if NBA's lowest rated team goes up against your best PBA team, they're gonna trounce your team so bad that it'll be a foregone conclusion that your best team will lose.
@harley55100 philippine's only culture is when an american goes the philippines,, all these old ladies will approach you and ask you to marry their daughters and nieces
Football? What kind of football?? If it is soccer, then I'll leave it to the Italians or the Brazilians to kick your best Filipino soccer team in the ***. But if it is rugby, then there is no question that Filipinos will NEVER score a touchdown, let alone win the game.
Billiards, hip-hop dancing, dragonboat,........ Mind if you add "jumping jacks" and "cockfighting" into that list??
Boxing. Does Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson,...... ring a bell to you??
to my people, both sides are right! our people are naturally born self haters, self confused and majority white race worshippers! we hate ourselves bettering our lives yet raise our ethnic roots when the other is famouse/rich.we differentiate who is darker skin and lightest, trying to achieve white skin(to whites we are still niggers too)look at the state of our country; what else would it breed?
@poofkaboom im not Filipino but when i went to the Philippines the kids there were making fun of other kids because they could not afford nike shoes and an iphone and i saw light skin girls making fun of a dark skinned Filipina ( I can understand and speak tagalog) so there is no difference if its America or the Philippines.Filipinos are just haters whether they are born in the Philippines or America. No offense but the Philippines is a dirty place, just walk along manila bay for instance.YUCK
Why are the most popular, famous celebrities in the Philippines only half-Filipino? Most, about 95% of half-Filipino celebrities are half-white. Reality check: accept the fact that 'true' Philippine blood has been diluted since the Spaniards came to the Philippines.
@mickeypammie I agree with you( but dont take this the wrong way) ,Filipinos are the only people in Asia that have an "ODD" look. They dont have a nice general look like say Japanese or Korean.
what a bunch of fucking losers. the problem with you all fuckers is that you are all ashamed of being a filipino. you people deny your own country, your race and your fucking culture and yet got the guts to wear a filipino shirt everytime manny p. is fighting.tingnan nyo mga sarili nyo sa salamin mukha ba kayong puti? mga gago kayong lahat
american sucks!!! with their fucking culture!!!!!!!!!! loser!!!! dont even know how to play football, even basketball they lose to turkey and filipino kick ass of the americans in billiards, dragonboat, boxing, dancing, hiphop dancing, singing and many more..........
@XComPointer Did you know that the Philippine Olympics will not fund their dragonboat winners? They accused them of using steroids in order to win. Isn't that all kinds of fucked up? The dragonboat winners are asking for a little support from THEIR OWN COUNTRY but the Philippines talks trash about its own outstanding Filipinos. Don't you see anything wrong with that? Sure, Filipinos are great, talented people, but the world will not see it that way if their own country does not support them.
wtf is this shit?!?!? why are my filipino men and women arguing about nonsense? i dont give a shit if your 100%, 50% .00001% filipino and cant speak the language as long as your proud of your cultural background as a filipino, your cool, peace out :D
"pwede ko bang purihin yang USERNAME mo ??? ayos ka lakas ng loob mo gamitin ang pangalan ng pambansang bayani ng pilipinas ... tpos ang panig mo naman ay sa mga dayuhan!! HAHAHAH... si jose rizal ay namatay ng may pagmamahal sa pilipinas. hindi kagaya mo na nabibilog at nauuto ng mga dayuhan."
Gotta love the jungle language of Filipinos!! LOL
And who the hell is Jose Rizal?? Now everybody knows Shakespeare and everybody knows Einstein. But nobody outside your country knows Jose Rizal.
And one last thing. I don't know of any other race of people that can be so nationalistic and proud to be citizens of their country despite the many instances where their country has fucked them over. Loyal people. Loyal people.
I speak fluent Tagalog, and I'm an American because I was born in the United States of America. I'm Filipino because my parents are. What's with all the confusion? I understand my ethnicity and the culture that comes with it, and I am proud of some aspects to Filipino culture and for others, not too much. Speaking Tagalog is besides the point. It's understanding what it is to BE Filipino, and, that is, to be hardworking, friendly, optimistic, and an avid Jufran user. :)
@allergicdandelion "I'm an American bcuz my was born in the United States." "I'm Filipino because my parents are." .... in that case u dnt hve to call ur self a "filipino" at all.. once nationality pertains to once allegiance.. U follow a long line of dumbfuck "Filipinos" who have been led to believe that they hve been a part of an americunt legacy. Ur a legacy of unloyal assholes (to their own motherland); therefore, u have no country n that makes u an inferior n uncultured americunt bitch
@noypipi You obviously didn't read my whole comment. Learn to spell properly and I'll take your critique into consideration. Your kind makes me truly sad. But I suppose that's because your kind can't read. Sad. I hope you find happiness in your life and that you pick up a book and read it (even if it has pictures in it). God bless you, friend.
@noypipi You are an illiterate fuck. May your bloodline end with you. We don't need any more cretins in this world. Scratch that, it's an insult to cretins. Spend a lonely lifetime never being liked by smart people.
@allergicdandelion The fact that you speak DOES matter. Once you get to America the concept of nationality and ethnicity gets blurred a bit. Meaning America isn't really a culture unto itself. Its many, and not distinctive. If becoming American is at the expense of knowing Tagalog, or the traditions associated with being Filipino. Or the next generation up has trouble speaking with you...then was it worth the cost? Understanding isn't enough Its everyday PRACTICE that matters.
@WisdomThroughLogic I understand what you have said, however it seems you have made your own interpretation of my comment. I didn't say that it didn't matter whether you speak Tagalog or not, of course understanding and being able to speak the language contributes greatly to identifying oneself with the culture. However, I simply think that understanding leads to practice, I know this to be true for almost everything (religion, politics, etc) Perhaps the little space provided in the comment box
@allergicdandelion did not convey my point clearly enough. So I shall try now to avoid any further confusion.
To call yourself anything, it is true that you must be it, must practice it, but in my opinion most importantly, understand it. For example, you cannot call yourself Catholic if you accept and agree with all the claims of the Catholic church without *knowing* about ALL the claims of the Catholic Church. It simply cannot be. To devote oneself fully to something, one must know what it is
I earnestly make this distinction because I believe it is important. I wholeheartedly agree that practice is important (redundancy may frequent this short argumentative essay for the conveyance of the real point which I will get to in a minute), but understanding leads to it. Understanding leads to proper practice. You can't play an instrument to its true sense without understanding how it works, right?
@allergicdandelion "...America isn't a culture in itself..." In my opinion quite the contrary. The melting pot aspect of America, the very fact that you cannot look at one race of people and say it is the American race, if the definitive aspect of American culture. What makes culture? Values, language, human achievement? America has all that. You could say that with the approximate 300 years a country has been established, America is the most accomplished, however, that may just be my bias.
@allergicdandelion To conclude this unreadable length of online ranting, thank you for your comment. I appreciate your respectful tone, your intelligence and propriety. It is rare on the internet, and I appreciate greatly when I see it.
@allergicdandelion Maybe I saw your comment through my own lens, you may be right. I'm white myself. I was raised with my auntie (shes pinay), and my cousins (they are all half). I lived in the household and was raised with Filipino culture all around me. I was grateful for my raising so much that I decided to spend 5 years of my life studying Tagalog grammar to become perfect at it. Now the shock that I get when I speak, and the knowings of history and knowledge of cooking the food as well...
@WisdomThroughLogic pt.5 If what we were taught in the USA is right, and race doesn't really matter, then CULTURE and knowledge of it does. Meaning the debate between being filipino is based on what? This is what I see in the video. One side (native filipinos) are saying that to be filipino is to speak, understand, and practice the culture. I see the other side (fil-ams) saying that it doesnt matter if we speak! we are still proud to be filipino.(they are essentially saying Race and blood alone)
@WisdomThroughLogic pt.6 So knowing my bias, I would have to side with the natively born who say that knowledge and practice is what determines it. Because (fil-ams) argument is the most ironic I've heard. In a country where race isn't supposed to matter, then why take the reason of RACE to establish identity?
@WisdomThroughLogic PART 1 Okay, I get it, but I'm Fil-Am and I believe in the whole knowledge and practice argument. However, I suppose my upbringing is uncommon among most Filipino households. I had to learn the culture, speak the language as well as learn English (both are taught by my parents). And, I didn't say race didn't matter (again you are making your own assumptions to straightforward statements!) I'm saying that American culture is multifaceted in the racial sense. Race in America is
@WisdomThroughLogic PART 2 perhaps like the regional differences in other countries, like people from Cebu, Pampanga, Mindanao etc in the Philippines. America is so unique that perhaps nothing can properly compare to her attributes, and therefore I might fail at conveying my perspective. Race, gender, sexual orientation everything we are contributes to our identity. What are you? Ikaw ba ay Pilipino sa loob ng katawan ng Amerikano?
@WisdomThroughLogic pt 2 has given me an inside look on the differences between American raised Filipinos and ones who have immigrated. My uncle (hes white) learned Tagalog in the 1970s,, and read Jose Rizal for fun. He helped open up the call centers in the philippines for Comcast. When he saw my cousins having trouble learning Tagalog growing up he planned to immediately move to Makati. Upon later talking to him he said "I've spent years learning this culture, and I'm not going to raise..
@allergicdandelion a bunch of fil-ams" I didn't quite understand until I attended junior college to learn advanced Tagalog grammar. My classes consisted mainly of fil-ams where were not taught the language. After getting to know some of them, they related their sorrow that they weren't taught Tagalog growing up...and felt separated by the natively born Filipinos. I remembered what my uncle said during that time, these people in front of me is what my uncle feared,he didn't want his sons to become
@allergicdandelion pt.4 This has put me in a couple of wierd situations in where I was at a bank. There was an older filipina who went to a teller who was obviously pinay. She didn't know much englsh and needed some help. No-one at the bank knew how to speak...and the teller didn't know either. I felt bad and offered to translate, when i did this I was met with wide open eyes. Here's an obvious white American translating Tagalog from one filipina to another. This got me thinking..

at least they recognize where they came from. for example, there are chinese people who refuse to call themselves a "chinese" but "taiwanese", who i consider a fully chinese with different flag, but for some reason they don't want to be chinese (probably ashamed of the communism). they're really 100% chinese, but they deny it and call themselves a "taiwanese". so they don't recognize that they're chinese. pure IDENTITY CRISIS. plz DON'T be like them! be proud of yourselves, unlike the chinese.

the fact is that tagalog is not a requirement to live any where else on earth, so don't speak it just to confuse others or show off about the fact that you speak a second language
keniquelawrence 3 weeks ago

TheKalen486 3 weeks ago

Let it go.

Filipina: Los Peninsulares de las Islas Filipinas= Filipinos, Filipinas.... so yeah by that criteria u laid out, ur a 100% european
noypipi 2 months ago

Optimusnorm 2 months ago
@Optimusnorm only those from mindanao were muslims before the spaniards, those from luzon & visayas were animists. the muslim supremacists just want to spread a deception that we were all muslims before & condemn any form of christianity, it is based on propaganda, ie. abu sayaf. i for 1 am glad the islam did not spread to luzon, i have respect for muslims but i wouldn't want to be one thank you.

My ethnic background is Boholano and Ilocano, Would that disqualify me being called Filipino???

@noypipi these 3 words (maharlika/mahaldika/mahardika) are derived from sanskrit. in bahasa melayu and indonesia,, there is a similar word "merdeka" derived from sanskrit as well....and they share similar meanings. so tell me.. if you were to change the name of "philippines" and identity, what would it be?
FiIipinoUnggoy 4 months ago
The comments here saddens me. I know a couple of guys living in the Philippines who are non-Filipino yet love the culture and the country; I consider them more Filipino than some of the commenters here. What's even worse is the hate lol; Filipino's talking s*** about fobs or the Philippines, yet put on a Pac-Man shirt whenever's there's a fight - talk about hypocrisy.

philippinese are the dumbest and ugliest people one could imagine, they are simply the lowest definition of human being and to be considered a philippinese is the most dehumanizing word.

Why are the most popular, famous celebrities in the Philippines only half-Filipino? Most, about 95% of half-Filipino celebrities are half-white. Reality check: accept the fact that 'true' Philippine blood has been diluted since the Spaniards came to the Philippines.

WisdomThroughLogic 4 months ago
@WisdomThroughLogic I understand what you have said, however it seems you have made your own interpretation of my comment. I didn't say that it didn't matter whether you speak Tagalog or not, of course understanding and being able to speak the language contributes greatly to identifying oneself with the culture. However, I simply think that understanding leads to practice, I know this to be true for almost everything (religion, politics, etc) Perhaps the little space provided in the comment box
allergicdandelion 4 months ago
@allergicdandelion did not convey my point clearly enough. So I shall try now to avoid any further confusion.
To call yourself anything, it is true that you must be it, must practice it, but in my opinion most importantly, understand it. For example, you cannot call yourself Catholic if you accept and agree with all the claims of the Catholic church without *knowing* about ALL the claims of the Catholic Church. It simply cannot be. To devote oneself fully to something, one must know what it is
allergicdandelion 4 months ago
@allergicdandelion one is devoting oneself to.
Secondly, I disagree the claim that,
allergicdandelion 4 months ago
@allergicdandelion "...America isn't a culture in itself..." In my opinion quite the contrary. The melting pot aspect of America, the very fact that you cannot look at one race of people and say it is the American race, if the definitive aspect of American culture. What makes culture? Values, language, human achievement? America has all that. You could say that with the approximate 300 years a country has been established, America is the most accomplished, however, that may just be my bias.

@allergicdandelion To conclude this unreadable length of online ranting, thank you for your comment. I appreciate your respectful tone, your intelligence and propriety. It is rare on the internet, and I appreciate greatly when I see it.
allergicdandelion 4 months ago
@allergicdandelion Maybe I saw your comment through my own lens, you may be right. I'm white myself. I was raised with my auntie (shes pinay), and my cousins (they are all half). I lived in the household and was raised with Filipino culture all around me. I was grateful for my raising so much that I decided to spend 5 years of my life studying Tagalog grammar to become perfect at it. Now the shock that I get when I speak, and the knowings of history and knowledge of cooking the food as well...
WisdomThroughLogic 4 months ago
@WisdomThroughLogic pt.5 If what we were taught in the USA is right, and race doesn't really matter, then CULTURE and knowledge of it does. Meaning the debate between being filipino is based on what? This is what I see in the video. One side (native filipinos) are saying that to be filipino is to speak, understand, and practice the culture. I see the other side (fil-ams) saying that it doesnt matter if we speak! we are still proud to be filipino.(they are essentially saying Race and blood alone)
WisdomThroughLogic 4 months ago
@WisdomThroughLogic pt.6 So knowing my bias, I would have to side with the natively born who say that knowledge and practice is what determines it. Because (fil-ams) argument is the most ironic I've heard. In a country where race isn't supposed to matter, then why take the reason of RACE to establish identity?
WisdomThroughLogic 4 months ago
@WisdomThroughLogic PART 1 Okay, I get it, but I'm Fil-Am and I believe in the whole knowledge and practice argument. However, I suppose my upbringing is uncommon among most Filipino households. I had to learn the culture, speak the language as well as learn English (both are taught by my parents). And, I didn't say race didn't matter (again you are making your own assumptions to straightforward statements!) I'm saying that American culture is multifaceted in the racial sense. Race in America is
allergicdandelion 4 months ago
@WisdomThroughLogic PART 2 perhaps like the regional differences in other countries, like people from Cebu, Pampanga, Mindanao etc in the Philippines. America is so unique that perhaps nothing can properly compare to her attributes, and therefore I might fail at conveying my perspective. Race, gender, sexual orientation everything we are contributes to our identity. What are you? Ikaw ba ay Pilipino sa loob ng katawan ng Amerikano?
allergicdandelion 4 months ago
@WisdomThroughLogic pt 2 has given me an inside look on the differences between American raised Filipinos and ones who have immigrated. My uncle (hes white) learned Tagalog in the 1970s,, and read Jose Rizal for fun. He helped open up the call centers in the philippines for Comcast. When he saw my cousins having trouble learning Tagalog growing up he planned to immediately move to Makati. Upon later talking to him he said "I've spent years learning this culture, and I'm not going to raise..
WisdomThroughLogic 4 months ago
