How to clear a handgun

please don't put your fingers inside the chamber... that weapon has enough force to nip off a finger tip or pinch you pretty good. visual is good enough unless you are having sight issues or are in a dark room. Also good to practice this procedure until you are more than bored with it. good video!

 It's actually a combination of push/pull if you do it correctly. I think she did a good job of explaining the process except for dropping the mag.

good video. two complaints:

1) why mess with the safety? doens't the slide work regardless of the position fo the safety?

2) why worry about the slide lock? if you want to clear the pistol, can you just operate the slide and not worry if it locks?

Some safeties also lock the slide, as this one clearly does. Look at the slide and you'll see the notch just above the safety lever.

no because the *safty* holds the slide locked so then you cant rack it

Not w/ that Para, it a double action 1911, so you need to keep it on safty even when the hammer is down.
