new poem The moon have cried Upon her relinquished breath Her curls cradled by the mist As death waits next to her Stars soaked in blood Shows the path to her ghost Through rotten flash A dead paradise resurrects Her faith is burning Like a candle savaged by the forest’s wind
Hi Marnie, The library is the best resource for books, of course! (I'm there all the time, either for myself or one of the kids) but I also have many books that I've collected over the years and so I started trading them on swap.com. It's great if you're not going to reread some of your books. I've also traded old DVD's and if the kids have old games, you can trade those, as well! Melody
Have you ever read Lisa Gardner? She writes more of a serial killer mystery books (like Criminal Minds).
How about the Rachel Morgan series by Kim Harrison? It's a paranormal series about a witch, a vampire, and a fairy who have a bounty hunter business together.
@pinkbonanza I haven't read Lisa Gardner, but I love, love, love the Rachel Morgan series! My only complaint is that I wish she would write them faster!! :)
Just wanted to thank you for those generous comments on my books. Glad you like them! Obviously, you are a woman of considerable perception and discrimination!
@skeldetec Mr. Elkins-thank you so much for watching my video and responding. I can't tell you what an honor it is to hear from you personally! I absolutely love the Skeleton Detective series and I have so enjoyed getting to know Gideon Oliver. Since I love to travel, reading your books brings together two of my particularly favorite interests. Thank you for writing such wonderful books and letting me escape into your world for a few hours! ~Marnie
@plugrapls I'm definitely going to suggest Water for Elephants and American Wife at our meeting in a couple of weeks. The one we are reading now might be the most depressing book I've ever read. I'll review it in the next video...
I really love your book club/ recommendation videos. Please keep making them! :) I adore my book clubs (I'm in 2) and I am always looking for things to read. Thanks for sharing!
I just got this book, it is not an intellectual read by any means but it's a fun book. It's called, What the yuck?! It is written by a doctor and editor of health magazine, it's all about the heath questions we are too embarrassed to ask. Love this book :-)
I love old school mysteries, esp Agatha Christie - Hercule Poirot is a RIOT! Haven't read much recently until I got a Kindle this summer and now back to reading like a maniac (the way I did when I was younger). Most of the books are finance/business books or total fluff romances (missed them soo much!) Thx for the recommendations! If you read any fun romances let me know bec those don't take any time at all to finish. P.S. I downloaded OUTLANDER! Will let you know what I think ;) <3 Ruby
Hey Marnie, could you please take part at this Tag: "TAG! My Perfect Imperfections" I think its a different tag and I'd love to watch this video from you. Thanx.
@HayatSu35 I'll have to go look for it and check it out. I just got tagged to do a different tag video, so it may be a little bit before I do another one. I don't want to bore you guys!
@MsGoldgirl well, you dont bore us at all! If anyone feels bored she doesnt have to watch your videos! Watching your videos is fun and we all watch them voluntarily, no one is forced to watch.
American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld was an interesting book that I just read. Something in between an easy read and a really solid book. Worth checking out next time you're at a bookstore!
I've been following along with your book recommendations and some of your book club selections. I think these are possibly some of the videos of yours I look forward to the most. Thanks for keeping your channel so real and diverse!
@anonymouschic American WIfe was on my list to recommend to the book club. I'm definitely going to bring it up at our next meeting. Glad you enjoy my book rec's-these are some of my favorite videos to film!
Hi Marnie! I really like these book videos since I'm a huge reader. I love mystery series. I'll have to check those out for sure! Not that it matters, but i enjoy seeing you in your beautiful kitchen. :)
@MissCrystalMakeup I enjoy it, too! Just waiting for the deck to get finished...can you believe it's 10:30 am and they haven't shown up for the day? Nice work ethic!
Yea, the Glass Castle is a great book but a downer :/ I wanted to recommend to you goodreadscom if you haven't heard about it great site of reviews on books.
I have a question sorry if sounds stupid, the books that come in series should be read in series too!? or if I start from the middle I won't get the story!?!
@maania82 Ideally, you should start with the first book. They do build on experiences from previous books. However, with the Aaron Elkins books I've been jumping around, getting whatever is available at the library. You can get the back story rather quickly with those and then go back and read earlier ones when you can.
How'd you join the book club and about how old are the women that go? I'd love to go to a book club but I feel like there's a stigma that it's mostly older women (I'm only 20) so I'm not sure! Anyway, thanks for the book recommendations! Love your videos!
@lovelooksgood I didn't join one-I started one! Just ask some friends that you think enjoy reading and go from there. I invited about 6 women and then a few asked a few of their friends and then all of a sudden we had a group. We're all about the same age, but it's more because we all live in the same neighborhood and have kids about the same ages. When I was in my 20's I joined a group that met at my local book store and it was really fun b/c there was such a huge age range. Have fun!
If you like murder misteries, check out a French writer called Fred Vargas. She is mostly known in Europe and has some of her books translated to English.
I haven't read any of her books yet, but my mom who reads a lot and likes the same type of books that you like, really enjoyed her books.
I am loving your book reviews, Marnie! I was an English major in college, so reading is a big passion of mine. Have you read any of Toni Morrison's work? 'Sula' is fantastic, as is 'Beloved'. I also feel the need to recommend 'The Road' by Cormac McCarthy to anyone who will listen. It's nothing like the 'The Help', and is pretty bleak, but nonetheless really makes you think.
@nelle4362 You English majors-too studious for me! :) I read The Road and had a hard time getting into his style of writing. I enjoy punctuation a little too much. :)
That's so great to meet up with gal pals and share common bond...reading! Hey...I read the whole twilight series so fast and my kids were like, mom? lol Nope, wasn't embarrassed at all...
This is a refreshing change in your channel...I do enjoy this too. ;)
I will have to check out these books later. Right now I am on a waiting list for outlander at the library. Thanks for all the ideas. Now you look washed out. Go back to the kitchen! LOL.. And I get the tshirt.
@rkecandme I think if I just shut the blinds I might look like a living human being instead of a member of the undead. :) Will try to do a test video this afternoon. :) Still can't go in the kitchen-the workers are STILL there!!! Aargh!
Thanks so much for doing the book reviews! Have added several of your suggestions to my list! Since you're a big reader I was wondering if you had any thoughts on e-readers? Any plans to get one? Keep up the great videos!
@bahucheeks I don't have an e-reader. I travel a lot, so it would make sense to have one for trips, but there's something about real paper...also, I get the majority of my books at the library. If I had an e-reader, I'd have to actually buy them. It would end up costing me a fortune!
I like that you are slowly giving us your house tour...Where would it be next...and thanks for the book suggestions! I added them all on my goodreads to-read list. For suggestion, how about "Room" by Emma Donoghue. Sort of interesting and kind of uplifting in a way after devastation (if it makes sense)
Marnie, I just love your book chat videos. I love to read and absolutely adore your Dewey Diva shirt. Very clever and special. Your next book club session should be interesting too. The Glass Castle is quite the read. I just love to read memoirs and non-fiction. Has your book club read The Kite Runner? I'll try and come up with more if I can. I love Jodi Picoult's books too. If you haven't read her give one or two a try. 80 degrees - yikes is all I can say!!!
@grnmtgrl We've all read The Kite Runner at some point. Great book club book. 80 degrees sounds nice, but it's really getting a bit tiresome. Fall weather would be nice (60 degrees!).
yay for library books! i used to work at a library and i know how badly they've all been affected by the economy so i get excited when i see people reading library books. anyway, Choke by Chuck Palahniuk is a pretty funny book, but not lighthearted. It actually has pretty dark themes now that I think about it. So maybe I shouldn't even recommend that. Lol.
Love book reviews and don't feel like an idiot because you like Vampire books. I love them and I don't think I'm an idiot....well maybe sometimes. ;) LIghting today...you look WHITE! on my computer, with blue eyes, blue and white e/s and can't see much on your lips. Are you in front of a large window? If It's just me don't worry about it. Just tryin' to help. :)
Thanks for the book ideas. It's always so helpful because I have tons of books lying around that I haven't had the chance to read, one being The Glass Castle, now I'm inspired to read it, finally!
It would be so nice if I was back and Texas we could hang lol. I used to live in Mesquite, outside of Dallas. Where about are you if you can say? Enjoy the books ;)
I would HIGHLY reccommend the Janet Evanovich 'Stephanie Plum' books. You may have already read them because they have been out for a long time now. The first book is called 'One for the Money'. Seriously one of the best and quickest reads ever! Def check it out if you haven't already!!
Love book reviews. I love to read, especially with all the traveling I do..but it seems like I always end up picking something up, that bores me to no end!
Hi, yes I read 'The Help' it will make you think how we treat others. Excelent read. I would consider it a historical fiction. For a really uplifting book, and one of my all time favorites, and considered by many as a new classic is 'The Alchemist' by Paulo Coelho (I think?) I also like reads such as 'The Right Stuff' by Tom Wolfe 'Death of a Salesman' and the classic 'To kill a Mocking Bird' anyway I enjoy your reviews. Thanks :o)
I read The Glass Castle a couple years ago, what a bizarre childhood she had as you will soon read. Jeannette Wells came to my town to speak, it was really neat to put an actual person to that story. She also has another book out, but I haven't read it yet. Last month we read in my book club Little Bee, a very good book and great for book club discussion. I just checked out Naked In Death from the library :) Happy reading! ~Kris
oh i think i have to read the the help in english... i´m interested in this "conflict between diffrent ethnic backgrounds" thing
