  • pherhaps starfleet was the anime of the 80s

    Brian may's music is awesome!

  • only the floating Brian May's head can save us all!!

  • It could be one Buggles song :)

  • It's cool I like it alot.

  • Good God

  • good

  • i cant stop laughing at this

an old irish saying hes a harmless bx

  • ultimate badness

  • Does he sing "save arseholes" at 1:06?

  • @kavorka75 lol

  • @kavorka75 Lol

  • I keep expecting the enemy spaceships to fly into Brian's hair and get tangled in it. I don't mean that in a bitchy way reallly, I think he's a cool guy, and even more so as an elder statesman of rock.

  • Go Nagai and Supermarionation. It could only end well.

  • Only 250,000 views in five years? This should have a lot more.

  • aww i wish i was around when this came on the telly!!!

  • I shall say that only the music of Brian May (and Queen), can save us from the invasion of bad musics which rage on our waves!

Redone fast an album Brian, please!!!!

  • subtle use of pagan imagery

  • @allonewordy

All of the footage except for Brian May's head is from a Japanese Thunderbirds-style puppet show called X Bomber.

  • 1:41. Brian May's head explodes due to how awesome this is.

  • they should remake this with A list actors and keep the same music and ,and ,and have the same script writer who penned the new thunders birds. perhaps not

  • Brian may is god!

  • I want to go back to the 80's!

  • oooohhhh eh!

  • naughty sexual reference at 1.58 x

  • @MrPeterMarchant Lmao, I geddit :)

  • More importantly Brian May has a PhD in 'Guitarology'! This will serve human kind even more so than his astrophysics Doctorate!

  • Brian May has a PhD in Astrophysics. Spread the word!

  • @AlphaBetaParkingLot

    I know he does

  • @AlphaBetaParkingLot and he did this pile of pish.

I love Brian May, I love the way he can cry at the drop of a hat but this is crap.

  • @lostinthedrone

i agree this is kinda gay but its okay..

  • @AlphaBetaParkingLot And he has a BA in being cool too!

  • Go Brian. Awesome theme tune. Must get round to watching the rest of the box-set.

  • ライブで聞いてみたいですね。

  • Wow!! So Power Rangers got started here. Hmm.....

  • @naedekim99

The japanese "Super Sentai" franchise from which "Power Rangers" is derived started in the 70s, before X Bomber/Star Fleet was made.

  • Man, this is so amazing! Just proves what I wrote somewhere else earlier that practically every kid in the world with TV grew up watching this - I watched the original in Japanese (along with other marionette style shows like Thunderbirds, etc), and remember them so vividly.

And then you've got Brian May and EVH on this! LOL! That's just grrrreat!

PS Brian May has PhD in Astronomy - go figure! LOLOL!

  • @pistachioguy

    Astrophysics, actually.

  • @countrybluegrass - yes, I meant astrophysics, and a brilliant PhD at that - typed too fast - thanks!

  • @pistachioguy You read 'A Survey of Radial Velocities in the Zodiac dust cloud'? Was it any good?

  • @marknpeyton - Nope! But I read online somewhere (it was the BBC article, that it was a difficult PhD handed to someone named Nandra of Imperial, and that he would have had a brilliant career as an Astrophysicist had he continued with it in the seventies - just checked it online again). Also, they did not go easy on him on the viva.

In case, count on the fingers of one hand all prominent rock stars who have a PhD (from the UK, no less) - truly a "stellar" achievement

    The man is all class.

  • once again another suppressed memory gets forced to the surface by the power of youtube

  • There's nothing more 80's cheese than Brian May's disembodied head singing to you about creepy intergalactic puppets.

  • Where can you get the album "starflee"???

  • The two guitarists with the two best sounds in rock!

  • i have this on a 12 inch used to watch this on saturday mornings with the kids so did brian may thats how he became a fan it says so on the back of the cover

  • Check on Veoh to the making of

X-bomber aka Starfleet. Type X-bomber and you

going to see X-bomber ready to launch.

And watch the behind the scene of X-bomber.

But bad news is no subtitles :-( But you

going to see there works. It remind me of

    thunderbirds

  • how does he make them awesome guitar effects

  • @BrownironStudios watch on youtube "Gitarreneffekte richtig anordnen" lol

  • @BrownironStudios

It's brian may and eddie van hallen dude, they are gods !

  • 21st centuary has got nothing on this

  • OH FUCK YEAH! Now that's what I'm talking about. ^w^

  • has he ever performed this live??

  • cheesy song, but happy memories of this programme on saturday mornings. However, if you get hold of the 7" this song, it's worth a packet

  • i havent seen this in so long thank you oh so much many good memories

  • Is it just me, or does the X-Bomber look a *lot* like the GreatFox?

  • @VulpisFoxfire it does and some characters look like ones form spectrobes too it is a fire that probably helped inspire the gret fox and rallen also the princess looks like jeena but with red hair

  • May and van Halen, perhaps two of the most recognizable guitar styles of the 80's. Out-freaking -standing.

  • When we getting older now. We never forget the series

because they air this in the Philippines back in 1991.

For those in the Philippines. That was 5 years before

the bad Thalia was star in the hit bad Mexico drama

Marimar. And all the classmates have lost of IQ

and all the kids are bad because there is no

Anime all because of Thalia. Remember Thalia

destroys Anime in the Philippines. Luckily Anime is

back in 1999 with the help of Voltes 5. I wish

    Hero tv will air this

  • @hilarioph and Samurai X and Gundam Wing

  • Damn, this is truely phenomenal! In both the music and editing

  • jews mark?

  • this was the best show on tv ever! I can't believe how rare it is..cool styles for the characters and vehicles..Brian May AND Eddie Van Halen for the title music...awsome Ideas for the script! STAR FLEET FTW!!!

  • i used to watch this every afternoon on the weekdays. then i went to nursery... =(

  • Who needs pink power rangers when you have a Die-X.

  • i used to love this best part of my childhood saturday mornings

  • @simongtwigger

    80s Saturday morning ruled.

  • Saturday mornings have never been the same since....Starfleet, Tiswas! God getting old Sucks!

  • The best show that Gerry Anderson never made !

  • Oh! X-Bomber♪

  • I cant believe how "free" Eddie sounds....

  • rome just got fucking owned

  • @spacexploder LMAO it did!

This song is great isn't it!?

  • This is just great, awesome.

  • Can't find this anywhere. Eddie's just rocks. Paul Shaeffer (sp?) on keyboards.

  • @kchamz No, it's Fred Mandel on keyboards, who later played on Queen's "Man on the Prowl" (The Works - 1984). This was released as a mini-LP (I have it on vinyl, don't know if it was released on CD).

  • @Catalunya2014 thanks for clarifying. I had only heard years ago that it was Paul. So much for that urban legend.

  • ¡My two guitar heroes: Brian & Eddie!

  • I'm sorry but i just cracked up at 1:39, when the floating head of Brian implodes to the sound of a loud bang!

  • WOW....

  • That's no moon..

  • this looks fuckin' AWESOME!

  • Brian May is a great guitarist, one of my favorites. But when you hear Eddie's guitar solo, he is just in a league of his own. Awesome guitar interplay between Brian May and Eddie Van Halen!!!

  • as a kid the 80's fuck yeah.

  • I bought this LP on vinyl back in the 80s, it was great!!!

  • @lovegunII Yep, I did, too.

  • vintage Eddie kicking in at 02:29

  • i am always looking for this EP; can someone tell me how to buy it or get a copy of it?

  • @focusgroupcomputer If your lucky E-bay may have a copy up for grabs, they don't always come cheap but the LP sells from about £12 (english pounds!) to around £30, but who knows if you get lucky you may pay less. Hope that helps..

  • i will try to upload every episode if i can get them

  • This is one of the most brilliant things I will ever experience in my entire life

  • This is the greatest thing ever.

  • Loved the show as a kid. I still have the Maxi-Album. Original track was 8:05 mins long. Brian May guitar, vocals, production Eddie Van Halen guitar, backing vocals Alan Gratzer drums Phil Chen bass guitar Fred Mandel keyboards Roger Taylor backing vocals on "Star Fleet" Mack mixing Mike Beiriger engineering Nick Froome additional engineering Long live Star Fleet!
  • what a great little show starfeet was. and as for brian may writing and proforming the song excellent! i had a copy of the album on record but i lost it when i move many years ago...... bummer!

  • didn't he write 'fat bottom girls'?

  • Yeah Brian May wrote Fat Bottomed Girls, in addition to many others of Queen's hit singles.

  • @clockworkfiction3 We Will Rock You, Tie Your Mother Down, Keep Yourself Alive...

  • I loved watching this as a kid n when i saw brian had copied it as a 16 yr old i bought it on 12 inch in 1982.. still got it.. awesome!

  • amo este album! desde que salio! la union de los dos mas grandes guitarristas! brian may y eddie van halen! genial!

  • Amazing... I didn't know that there was a video about this.

  • Reminds me of Plan 9...

  • The first thing that came into my mind was the Muppet's "Pigs in Space " bit.. only using Brian's name instead.

    "Brian May.. in... spaaaaaa-aaaaa---aace!" :)

  • Some folks might not appreciate this but back in the day this shit was fucking cool, man.

I cringe and rock out at the same time. Star Fleet was the best show ever. I recently viewed the entire series on DVD and was blown away. It still holds up.

When I was a kid, I wanted to bang Makara. I was gutted when she kicked the bucket.

  • Was this before or after you realized it was all stop motions dolls that you wanted to bang Makara? xD

  • Methinks Capncnut was jesting.

  • to bad it's only half the song the last 3 minutes of eddie and brian jamming is awe inspiring

  • They would whip the Terrahawks' asses any day

  • Ahh what quality!! I remember it fondly on a Saturday morning. They don' make 'em like this anymore :0)

  • PYROTECHNICS, lol if only that mullet went up in flames, then THIS WOULD BE THE COOLEST VIDEO I'VE EVER SEEN

    sound effects RULE. They RULE.

  • That's no mullet. That is... the Hair of Destiny.

  • That princess looks very hot for a doll. Too Hot

  • oh...we were the children of the 1980's

what a great golden age it was for kids TV.

  • I remember watching this vid on Saturday Starship with Tommy Boyd.

    Embarrassing.

  • this came after tiswas on a saturday afternoon if memory serves me correctly and before world of sport with the wresling!

  • I think it was a bit later as I remember seeing Brian May being interviewed about it by Tommy Boyd on what would have probably been the Saturday Star Show. But, yeah, I think it was on when you say. Ah, early 80's Saturdays were the best Saturdays. Mornign TV, bombing around on a Raleigh Grifter, sugar fixes and home in time for CHiPS.

  • WOW! and this is the guy who said that Freddie always wanted to make things his way and that Brian didn`t have chance to show and prove himself; well after watching this video i`m glad things really happened this way :) go brian, go, now you have the chance! (speculate with lyrics like "only the good die young" and be famous on account of your selfish frontman! you are really the best, now is your time to prove it!)

  • i know it was the 80's but this is really bad....

and at the end you will see the cover with x-bomber,look closely and you will see that it's giving us a thumbs up!!!

  • Brian May became obsessed with covering this when his son showed him the show. Glad he did.

  • Ah, wasn't it great growing up in the 80s?

  • I remember the first year of middle school, one boy (not the brightest, to be honest), used to adore this show, and would always ask people "did you watch starfleet?"

People used to make fun of him for all sorts of things, and this obsession was no exception. He always seemed so sad that no-one would join in his recollections of the latest episode.

I feel a little sad remembering him. I made a conscious decision not to step into the breach and talk to him. A bit cowardly of me, that.

  • Which one of the 3 craft did u want 2 pilot??

  • LOL, the disembodied head of Brian May!

  • Could be worse; could be Patrick Moore's disembodied head....

  • in the complete track listen for van halen breaking the guitar string at the end

  • ...can't believe i use to watch this show...and captain power... I'm only 22 and I feel so old.

  • same here... i was 6 when i watched this... now im 25

  • same lol i had thunderbirds and captain scarlett lol

  • ur old - I,m 39 and cant believe where the last 25 years has gone!! - love the entire series - better than Terrahawks (but only just)

  • 1:40 BOOM Brian explodes!

Tamiya model tanks are no match for a bloke in a robot suit!

I loved this show when I was growing up, good to see it here in youtube!

  • Can you get a hold of this track anywhere? Please, if anyone got it, please let me know :D

  • try lime wire that's were i got mine 8 minutes of glory

  • or even The Pirate Bay, but you should still be able to buy it from some online music shop.

  • I like how Brian May's head explodes every once and a wile

  • Jaw-droppingly stupid... but I want to watch it again.

  • I bought this when it came out.............. I always wondered what the show was like!

Thanks for posting this it's great!

  • slabiutkie !

  • Brian's hair looks like JS Bach's. And he is at least as musically talented as Bach. Seriously. may has a Phd in astrophysics. Most of the renneseance (SP?) genuis composers were just as immeresed in the science of the day.

May is showing his appreciation of the geniuses that dragged us kicking and screaming out of the mud and filth of the middle ages.

He was also incredibly polite and gentlemanly when he visited a friend's camera store in chicago decades ago.

    World class class.

  • Is it me or is Brian May an almost dead ringer for the Tom Baker era Dr Who?

  • Hmmm, I don't think his head looks absolutely ridiculous - maybe a little bit, but hey, it was made in the 80s when pretty much everything was ridiculous in the music world... but here's something for you to think about... Who's the world famous guitarist? I sure as hell don't think its you mate =o)

  • Dude. That is so not a mullet.

That... is the Hair of Destiny. It's the source of Brian May's power. :)

  • 1.50 to 2.00 so queen so brain may sends a shiver down my spine .

  • I was in the studio when this was recorded, it's one of my most precious memories.

  • Very cool. Watching they two genuises jam. May is a true genius, van halen is a guitar genius...

all this came about because brian may watched cartoons with his kid.

i used to play this for van halen fans- they would freak and threaten to steal the album.

the sound is not too great, but holy cow!

  • lol i can't believe somebody posted this.. i was the tender age of ten when i first heard it.

this is one of the many tunes around that time that FORCED me to pick up the guitar and figure out why it sounded so damn COOL!! my cousin who happened to live next door had the album, and i played the crap out of that song until i burned it into my memory..

    Eddie and Brian.. Genius!!

  • This is one of Eddie's best solos ever. Explosive!

  • Love those tapped harmonics!

  • Yeah!!!
