good,as said before, the speed is too fast for the stand of technique, better more learning playing seqeunces at a row but then dont separating the notes of a seq while playing (in a rush)
Re: all the comments about this being too fast. It's not that it's being performed too fast, it's that the performer is rushing it. There's a big difference. The tempo fluctuates a bit throughout this performance, and with the exception of the ending, it should be constant. You can hear the performer trying to go faster, and then back off a bit. It's subtle, but as someone who has been playing Bach for 35 years, that's what I hear.
I litterally learned it in 5 days. The thing is - it's not a hard peice to play , It's just tricky because there's no actual melody - it switches around. And the fact that it was written in the braoque periods ( No dynamics whatsoever) makes it hard to relate to the piece. It's difficult to ''feel the music''. But it's an okay piece. I just can't seem to get used to Bach.
Even though I'm an amateur (never had a music lesson in my life), somehow I managed to learn this piece (at a slower tempo and without the trills, sadly). Now I'm playing it constantly.
Meh, I think this is okay-ish. I mean, your technical skills are very well developed, and if I said mine were better I would be lying. But where's the phrasing and, most importantly, the feeling? I'm hearing notes that you are playing, and not music.

@KamiwanMUFFINS I don't think it's that well played really... (not that I'd do any better) the pianist is very good though, but the piece would indeed improve by using a slower tempo...

this is the most stupid version of the first invention in my life! you are not even near to play bach, you lack the musical maturity. Why don't you start with something that suits your mental state and then, when you are ready come back to the complexity of Bach?
whats up with you? her interpretation is among the best here on youtube. i suggest you record the first invention and let us be wittness of your (musical) maturity!
yeah 120 is pretty intense usually when i see/hear it played its done at or around 78 course theres always a few that seem to play it faster than most
Bach's manuscripts don't have BPM on them, these were added later (with things like dynamics and such) to meet the mood of the age in which the music is published. I think it's too fast, but focusing on speed misses the point of the inventions entirely. And trying to impart modern pianistic "emotion" on these baroque harpsicord pieces is a bit like expecting your toaster to talk to you.
well, its hard to play Bach correctly and show emotion. Some could argue that this is too legato, plus its hard to tell emotion only seeing only his hands play, stage presence plays a big part.
emotion doesn't come from the notes. classical players study their entire lives to play with emotion. look at yoyo ma... he can take notes and play them with emotion. one could argue bach is easy to play with emotion because its so good.
its not about playing the notes. its about knowing how to play them. there's more involved than plucking a string or hitting a key. tone and timbre and whatnot.
yes, I agree. There is quite a lot to look for in Bach's music. A lot of emotion tends to tie together with dynamics, which i don't use when preformin Bach. A good thing to look for are phrases or deceptive cadences, in which to slightly pause or maybe put a legato feel into the piece.
@mrspiiink exactly, however it seems everyone keeps whining about it.

Very good interpretation! Tell me, on measure 14, how do you play the ornament? I mean, what are the notes you play?

Oh sorry it didn't come through well. Click on the balloon around measure 14 for more details about it!

leichte temposchwankungen aber sonst ok , würde mir überlegen es nicht ein wenig langsamer zu spielen ...

too fast? technically it's too slow by about 15%. its supposed to be quarter = 120. its about 100 in this one.
bernie1111 3 years ago
i believe the song is 78 my friend according to the sheet music in front of me
LestatAzazel 3 years ago
perhaps that measn it doesn't actually matter, cause mine says 120. 78 is comforting because 120 seems a tad too much for, well, playing.
bernie1111 3 years ago
yeah 120 is pretty intense usually when i see/hear it played its done at or around 78 course theres always a few that seem to play it faster than most

Bach's manuscripts don't have BPM on them, these were added later (with things like dynamics and such) to meet the mood of the age in which the music is published. I think it's too fast, but focusing on speed misses the point of the inventions entirely. And trying to impart modern pianistic "emotion" on these baroque harpsicord pieces is a bit like expecting your toaster to talk to you.

way too fast....and empty

I agree.

Please explain "empty"
erichvonhinken 4 years ago
without emotion.
bernie1111 3 years ago
well, its hard to play Bach correctly and show emotion. Some could argue that this is too legato, plus its hard to tell emotion only seeing only his hands play, stage presence plays a big part.
erichvonhinken 3 years ago
emotion doesn't come from the notes. classical players study their entire lives to play with emotion. look at yoyo ma... he can take notes and play them with emotion. one could argue bach is easy to play with emotion because its so good.
bernie1111 3 years ago
I'm not quite understanding what you are saying, you say emotion doesn't come from playing the notes, then yoyo ma plays notes with emotion?
erichvonhinken 3 years ago
its not about playing the notes. its about knowing how to play them. there's more involved than plucking a string or hitting a key. tone and timbre and whatnot.
bernie1111 3 years ago
yes, I agree. There is quite a lot to look for in Bach's music. A lot of emotion tends to tie together with dynamics, which i don't use when preformin Bach. A good thing to look for are phrases or deceptive cadences, in which to slightly pause or maybe put a legato feel into the piece.
