only reason there is a bill of rights is because the anti federalist's used it as a ploy to stop states from ratifying the constitution. initially madison and most of the founding father felt it was not needed for a bill of rights and infact there was none till 1791 4 years after the constitution had been drafted why they are called amendments and not articles.

actually Jefferson didn't believe in a Bill of Rights because he believed that that the people were sovereign and therefore they didn't need to outline the rights of the people. The only reason that he allowed a bill of Rights was because he didn't like Hamilton and the people wanted a bill of rights so to win favor with the people he personally drafted the document.
Actually, I believe Hamilton said something along the lines of not wanting a Bill of Rights because such things were usually institutions set up by kings and sovereigns to rule their citizens. But, he did believe in a central government, where as Jefferson really didn't want anything of the sort.

It's VERY true that governments desperately need to be restrained. But now that it's here, what happens if you think of the government as a tool and it can either be in your control or the control of the elite? What if it's too late to get rid of it or reduce the size of it to an acceptable level?

only reason there is a bill of rights is because the anti federalist's used it as a ploy to stop states from ratifying the constitution. initially madison and most of the founding father felt it was not needed for a bill of rights and infact there was none till 1791 4 years after the constitution had been drafted why they are called amendments and not articles.

I have nothing against corporations per se. But I do have problems with corporations claiming they're "people". They are abstract legal objects that are usually composed of people, but they are not people. You should check out *The Corporation*. It's right here on YouTube.

As an aside, the psychologist Dr. Robert Hare is no hack but is one of the best men in his field. What he says should not be lightly blown off.

actually Jefferson didn't believe in a Bill of Rights because he believed that that the people were sovereign and therefore they didn't need to outline the rights of the people. The only reason that he allowed a bill of Rights was because he didn't like Hamilton and the people wanted a bill of rights so to win favor with the people he personally drafted the document.

Actually, I believe Hamilton said something along the lines of not wanting a Bill of Rights because such things were usually institutions set up by kings and sovereigns to rule their citizens. But, he did believe in a central government, where as Jefferson really didn't want anything of the sort.

I love how I keep hearing phrases like "the gov't is taking away our rights/freedom" and mentioning the Bill of Rights and all, but he doesn't tell us exactly what the gov't is taking from us. Freedom and rights is vague. It looks to me that big businesses and their influence in our gov't are the ones taking from us in order to line their pockets, moreso than the gov't. We are a capitalist society, after all.

1. Slavery was a contested issue all the way through the Civil War. That issue is not the same, because slavery was supressing the rights of African-Americans.
2. Consitution does not deal with voting rights - that was meant to be a state right
3. Public schools are run by the States already, not the feds. D'ment of Ed. teaches zero kids - they simpy allocate funding
4. Highways fall under the Interstate Commerce Clause
5. Post Office is established in the Constitution - same for taxation

One argument against government is to stop the fed from exerting control at the state and local level.Turns out there are some that would put prayer in school, violating the separation of church and state, if it werent for fed oversight. These are the same folks that scream when some locality passes gay marriage; they want to pass a constitutional amendment. Some loose sight of the fact that our gov is a modified republic. That means that we are democratic, but majority doesnt always rule.
