Its sad, but they need to be killed. They don't belong here, and if they aren't dealt with the damage they can cause the ecosystem in the long run is bad. okay, everyone needs to shut up about how they are vicious animals. all animals once lived in the wild and got used to being domesticated over decades. and if they are aloud to kill snakes cause they are eating animals, they why aren't they killing the alligators and crocodiles and shit?? they are eating animals and humans too. and if you take the time with your snake and get it used to humans and used to being held, and you tame it, and you have your cage locked then they make wonderful pets.
What a bogus video! It is the fault of the pythons to try to eat and survive! Fuck you man! You are killing animals just because they do not belong over here??? Is it like they came here on a choice? Then again it is America's best policy to "kill" all its problems, be it overseas or inside the nation. Jeez! you guys call yourselves human beings!
@Falsh125 Your comment is racist. The fact is, people are not responsible with their pets. releasing a pet in the wild, just because you don't want it anymore is ridiculous. Second, reptiles are not common pets. People should not be allowed to own them in the first place. Those pitons are a threat to the local ecosystems, since they don't have natural predators. Of course capturing them alive would be the best solution, but if I saw one of those in my backyard i'd kill it to protect my kids.
Why are they even legal? If they are not native to the area they are in, they need to be killed. They are indeed harmful. they never migrated to Florida. They were put there by idiots who got in over their heads. As usual, the actions of trailer-trash idiots with mental problems affects everything and everyone else. Because of so many morons that had to have these things as pets & then released them, the state of FL has to figure a way to get rid of them & spend more money they don't have.
@free2drm no they dont need to be kill it is not there. falt there dumb ass owners let them go.so do not take the angerout on them for killing a baby.it is there falt for not keeping it secured.they are misunderstod so plz re think ur comment on them they have do nothing ecept for protecting there self tell ppl who cant aford the tanks and sucure habitat.
pythons are becoming a real problem down there so they need to get rid of them but not bye killing them they need to get like 50-100 volinters to go and catch as many as they can to help with slowing them downt, usually at cold season the pythons start to die due to nature so, plz wat ever u do dont think a snake is harmful. plz never kill them they have videos and books on how to catch these creatures so help us out and dont make a snake ur natural enemy.ty
people eat people too in some places, your most likely to be killed by a dog or be struck by lightning this common fear/hate is simply blinding you. in all fact they aren't the only invasive species. humans are too there actually more dangerous to them selves than anything and the recent cold has killed off more please read facts it makes a more convincing argument
You fucking pansy fucks it not the snakes fault catch the snakes don't kill um they didn't ask to be brought over to florida yall act like the are plague on humanity but there not there animals. This is exactly why i love snakes man.People hate snakes which give me more incentive to love them.I have 3 snakes 1 rock python, and 2 brazilian red tail boa's.It was only a matter of time before the actual migrated to the ever glades anyways it's in there nature.
@maltacross1987 "It was only a matter of time before the actual migrated to the ever glades anyways it's in there nature."
From south east asia? I don't think so. The real problem with the snakes, and I am totally against animal hunting, is not their affect on humans but on the local ecosystem i.e other animals. A lot of the animals that live in the everglades can ONLY live there and are already endangered, and adding a predator with 0 natural checks on it is disastrous.
@KatarzynaP88 yeah lol, how are you meant to take these guys seriousley when they cant tell the difference between a ball python and a burm for the pics hehe
@Ambiguity82 not just one zoo but there are others these snakes are actually quite beautiful if given their proper and due respect they simply act instinctual people simply pressure emotions on to them as they do with other animals
Humans sure like to fuck things up for pleasure. How pleasurable is it now guys? Let's continue living in needless excess until we wipe ourselves out. YEA!
Humans sure like to fun things up for pleasure. How pleasurable is it now guys? Let's continue living in needless excess until we wipe ourselves out. YEA!
I realize that this video wanted to zoom in on careless pet owners, and while that may be true to an extent, much of the reason that there is a overabundance of pythons is due to Hurricane Andrew back in '92. So many buildings were damaged and the pet stores lost alot of snakes in the storm.
@pbkayakyer yes but the pythons shouldn't be blamed for that and killed on site they were simply trying to survive as any living being would do in such a situation but the deaths cause by the snakes the owners are at fault a properly cared for snake is highly unlikely to eat anyone. and everyone knows snakes are pretty much Houdini when escaping there change if it isn't taken care of and put into a proper cage.
of course the pythons shouldn't be blamed for that... but that's not why they are being killed on spot. they are being killed on spot because they are an invasive species. they have no natural predators in this environment, and their numbers are rampant. They are eating anything they can to survive- and they'll eat anything smaller than them. They need to be killed on sight. regardless of who or what is to blame for their existence in the everglades.
@pbkayakyer there are other invasive species there pets such as cats and dogs are included and truth be told more harmful as you are more likely to be killed by a dog than a snake. the numbers aren't as rampant as the news and media makes them seem the cold winter last year killed a large majority off. also like you said they eat anything smaller than them that also includes other pythons, similarly to what crocodiles and alligators would.
@XGirlycardXx I'm sorry, but cats and dogs are not "invasive species" true, many of them are not native to Florida, but they are not causing enviromental or economic harm. Whereas the pythons are endagering the wildlife in the everglades by feeding on several endagered species. If the last couple cold winter killed off alot of the population, then great, but the pythons can adapt quite easily, and their numbers NEED to be controlled. And I say this as a python owner
"A dog could potentially be more dangerous than this animal in the wrong hands". True, but I don't think the host wanted that information to be shared since this show was a witch hunt against snakes in the first place, wasn't it? Many of these pythons were wiped out from the cold winter last year, yet they are trying to tell people they are going to take over basically the entire country soon. Typical. Media sensationalism at work here.
@HoosierHerper another thing that they keep telling people is that the would migrate to all of America never mind all of the climate changes and the fact that it be unlikely for them to survive anywhere. because of people fear for not trying to understand such a beautiful species and do something humane for them its not like the snake wanted such to happen they're just trying to survive.
@HoosierHerper Well considering this video was about a year before that winter actually happened, the videos facts are still in place. They can't focus on a large majority of things because lets face facts, a car is more dangerous then a snake and a dog. They can't change there focus constantly because the point becomes lost on people. Average person can barely watch a 30 minute TV show without changing channels, let alone something boring like this.
@megamixa There is a lot of speculation in this video, and few facts. And if people don't have the time to watch a 30 minute tv show, they shouldn't be allowed to share speculation as if it were fact either. Sadly, after watching this news segment, they will though. That's my problem with all this. I agree not everyone should not own large snakes like these, and they do need to be removed from the Everglades. But ignorant laws and shows like this are not the answer.
@megamixa The video's facts that Burmese Pythons will soon be invading the Carolinas, Georgia, etc? The videos facts about Burmese Pythons can eat adult cows, which was alluded to by the female interviewer in this newscast? The video's facts about all these snakes were let loose by neglectful owner's, not mentioning the hurricanes that came through and freed snakes that were in shipment cargo, as well as pet stores which were destroyed as well? And Bill Nelson wants to end the pet trade!
@ALEXISOMG234 I didn't argue the fact that they were an invasive species, and need to be removed from the Everglades. I was however pointing out the false and/or speculative statements made in the video that they are trying to pass off as fact.
@HoosierHerper A large portion of them were wiped out but not all of them. It won't take long for them to repopulate. I didn't see it as a witch hunt against pythons, rather it was an attempt to inform ignorant people who other wise would go out and buy a python just for the novelty and then release it when it becomes to big for them. If you've actually read any kind of peer-reviewed literature covering pythons in the everglades you would see and understand how big of a problem it really is.
@bpterry85 Not once in any of my comments have I downplayed the problem of pythons in the Everglades. I did however point out some of the speculation passed of as fact(which has since been proven false) and ignorance of some of the comments in this video. I also stated the fact that hurricanes played a huge part in the flourishing of pythons in the Everglades, yet yourself and this ignorant report want everyone to think it's all due to irresponsible pet owners. Like I said, media sensationalism.
OMG: how many people get killed by cars? Much more than twelve. And cars are not natural I think...Kill all the cars! OMG: they kill our alligators, our frogs....Oh yes: like humans don't do that. How did Florida look before humans ventured in, most of all the white kind? A lot different just 400 years ago. But oh no: Pythons are awfull. They are, like all other so called invasives a much more benign creature: a scapegoat.
I understand that people are horrified that a child was killed by the python but blaming the snake really isn't what should be going on the parents should be blamed for not properly keeping it. If they would have been more responsible the snake wouldn't have gotten out.
aaahh soooo pissed me off, they talked about snakes killing people, it says "23 deaths" and shows a picture of a BALL PYTHON!! stupid ass news,
a Burmese could kill a human, not a ball python, the news needs to get pictures and other facts straight.
* im talking about like, 25-31 sec *
as for the fact at hand, how about they catch them, send them to zoos, adopt them out, use them for research... why kill them? kill the people who release them, or have an expensive license you must obtain.
This lady is a classic example of American media spreading fear "Cows! They CAN!" A Burmese python at full growth can hardly eat a fucking cow... She is thinking of a fucking Anaconda which even if having swallowed a cow most can not digest it and will regurgitate it. Gators and crocs are smaller than cows and yes they can digest them but they have a program in Louisiana (not sure about FA but I'm guessing they do) to kill them at 5 feet so are they are complaining about pythons stealing jobs??
@janses08 You people always want to kill everything. It isn't the SNAKES fucking fault someone released them. How about removing them and adopting them out or bringing them back to the country they came from? There are other soloutions and even relatively cheap ones if the country won't spend a few bucks to be humane and solve the problem.
@malcontent humane? oh poor snakes...... the snakes are messing up the everglades, so why should anybody care about these snakes that arent even supposed to be there, and they dont need to spread all across the south. get real.
Get real? So to "get real" I should think like you do? That the snakes plotted an evil plan to destroy The States and it's natural habitat starting with Florida's Glades? That they hopped on a mother fucking plane to Florida and the are consciously "messing up the glades"... not likely. so yes, one should deal with this situation humanely. It isn't their fault. So you sir/madam should... how did you put it? Get real.
@malcontent How about the humans over there. She is from Africa, he is from Europe. Go back, yuou want to see some proof of what their species (races) did to natives?? If one was to say about culture like some ecologists are ding with nature, it would be unnacceptable to many many people. Get rid of the French cuisine. AfroAmerican Music. All races within their "original" bondaries. Breakdown all architecture considered foreign. 100000 snakes already: we'll see natural selection realtime!
@malcontent I don't. People sometimes so judgemental. For personal reasons they decide what is natural (and therefor supposedly "good") and what is bad "unnatural". I cannot find any good, solid description of what natural or unnatural means and why it equals good or bad. To me, eveything is natural, some things are undesirable according to some people. But there can be no consensus on that. If people learned to observe rather than constantly wanting to control their environment...
These things are not just limited to south Florida. I have personally seen pythons living in the wild in the Itchetucknee/Ginnie springs areas north of Gainesville while swimming in the springs and tubing down the river. I enjoy having the various species of venemous & non-venemous native snakes around, and it worries me they now have to compete with these foreign intruders. Sad thing is, it's not the python's fault-they're just surviving. Owners should not release them into the wild.
The problem for you snake lovers is not how dangerous the snakes are, it's introducing them into an environment that is not their own. And the damage they can do to the eco system.
@SgtTes Oh you saw a documentary on the unnatural migration of animals and now you are an expert? In a cage a snake doesn't do ANY damage... when people release them they are at fault so it isn't a snake LOVERS problem... we would never release our beloved snakes into the wild where they will die. It is because of some douchebag who buys one and doesn't want it and can't find a buyer/adopter and frees it. Hey there is a huge cat problem... kill them all... ban cats.
Sigh... people make out snakes to be vicious killers... 12 deaths from pythons since 1980... how many people have been killed / mauled by dogs?? a fair few id say. owners are to blame, not the snakes themselves. as with all animals.. u want it as a pet, u take the responsibility.
@EvaneezerScroooge yea, there have been some people who go out hunting them down here now. they havent had too much sucess but they have cought some. if someone comes up with a good way to find them they could become come into a lot of money quick!
Alot of idiots and double standards here. Funny what all comes out of the woodwork when a child is killed or harmed... All these people saying stupid shit like how keeping snakes is like keeping big cats, and that people dont kill people, snakes kill people. Very narrow minded and sheltered views. Also a little disturbing some of the responses in regards to how uneducated they are, I mean really some of the anti snake banter here sounds like grade school comments.
@darkapocn Totally agreed. I have kept Ball Pythons and plan on setting up a new enclosure for an incoming Super Pastel. They're beautiful animals and should be embraced as such. And the woman in the video seems very one-sided on making these things out to be monsters. They can eat a cow? Really? I would love to see a snake approach a full grown cow. "Yeah, that thing's too big. Can I have a rabbit now?"
@ibz11 I know!! She is stark raving mad and definitely has seen to many b-rated horror films hahah. Really sad how the media can get away and succeed at spreading wide spread panic about seemingly tame issues.
The sell and trade of pythons in the United States is a HUGE market. By banning inter-state trade/sell of these animals will completely shut down a large quantity of small business'. Not to mention what it will do to the sales that large companies see from reptiles. By creating hysteria about pythons not only have you done un-reversible damage to the business but also the community. The reptile community always reaches out to try and educate ignorant people about our HARMLESS pets!
I live in Alabama and over the last week our high temp during the day has been 32 degrees or lower. So the ignorant people that you (CBS) got their information from are completely WRONG when they say that a python of ANY kind could live north of Florida as far north as Kentucky even. LOL! You should be using your power to educate people on these animals so that when these animals are bought and sold people can understand what they are undertaking, rather than cause random hysteria about pythons.
It's ridiculous to think that "Joe" let his burmese python loose in the everglades and it created a breeding population there. In the wild (i.e. Vietnam) a burmese male MAY come across ONE burmese female. So the idea that "Joe" let his snake out and it created a breeding population is pretty idiotic. I believe one of the Scientist studying how the pythons got in the everglades had 6 'tagged' females and 5 of the 6 died in the last cold snap. They can't survive in other states let alone Florida!
In America it is PARADISE for these pythons, since in Vietnam there's not many wild animals like deers n such running around in plain sight. so you would rarely see them unless you're deep in the Jungle and you happen to find their natural habitats or where ever there's FOOD for them. so yeah they will spread if you don't so something about it.
Ok so what I don't understand is why don't they just have an oil spill in the area covered by the pythons and just start a fire and burn all the snakes. Or drop a nuke.
I met this guy yesterday who is a snake hunter he told me that they are killing them because they are destroying the ecosystem stupid people let the them free dude
I can see why the catch and kill program is needed. The python has a potential to really screw up the enviroment down in the florida everglades. It's an invasive species, and they need to at least to be brough under some control. The more pythons there are, the more native animals they'll eat. Any species can be invasive in the right conditions, and if they're already eating the apex predators than it's just like the snakeheads in rivers and lakes, no natural predators to cull the adults.
WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH PEPOLE!!!!!PYTHONS ARE LIKE ONE OF THE COOLEST ANIMALS EVER! IN 1 HR669 VID IT SAID THAT THE CAT DOES THE MOST DAMAGE TO THE ENVIORMENT WELL BAN CATS!
poor rabit :( kill them snakes kill em, i prefer shooting the head and then throwing them in buckets, just like they do to those poor shelter dogs, well they dont shoot the heads
"Released by thier owners after they get too big to handle" BULL SHIT. When hurricane Andrew hit, there was a massive outdoor reptile breeding facility, mostly composed of baby or sub adult Burmese Pythons. This breeding facility just happened to be sitting right on the edge of the Everglades. When hurricane Andrew hit, those high speed winds TORE THE FACILITY APART, and blew thousands of hatchling Burmese Pythons into the Evergaldes.
@repticman123 I tried to google if this was this case just assuming a massive population like that couldn't rationally come from 10 people releasing their snakes I am very happy to have finally heard what really happened. I thought it might be a zoo. Thanks!!
RETARD THAT THINK THE SNAKES ARE THE PROBLEM NEED HELP ITS THE OWNERS FAULT. OWNERS REALESED THESE ANIMALS INTO THE WILD CAUSE THEY GOT TO BIG, AND PEOPLE SHOULD STILL HAVE PET SNAKES IF THEY CHOSE TO.
THEY JUST HAVE TO BE PREPAIRED TO TAKE CARE OF IT
AND SNAKES ARE NOT TO BE FEARED THEY NEED TO BE RESPECTED AND BE PART OF NATURE
AND THERE NO REAL PROOF OF THESE SNAKES DOING ANY DAMAGE TO THE NATURAL ENVIRNMENT
@Dawn18war exactlly, not to be racist or anything many black/hispanics by burms, sayin oh yeah ill by a bigger tank later when the snake grows up, and it turns out they cant offord a 20ft. long tank and release it/ it get out and kills there child. its not the snakes fault its there fualt for buy a snake not being prepaired for taking care of it in the long run
There's a bunch of people who share responsibility for this problem.
The importers, the buyers and the states who allow their importation.
Now that the problem exists, how will the state deal with the problem?
Will they exploit it and try to profit from it, or will they do the right thing and allow an immediate irradication to begin before we end up with millions of Pythons and very few natural animal species left in this state?
Its a problem that needs to be addressed immediately if not sooner
It's simple really, only sell pet snakes that are native to the state. There's no shortage of native nonvenomous snakes in the United States.

Because of so many morons that had to have these things as pets & then released them, the state of FL has to figure a way to get rid of them & spend more money they don't have.

maltacross1987 9 months ago
@maltacross1987 "It was only a matter of time before the actual migrated to the ever glades anyways it's in there nature."
From south east asia? I don't think so. The real problem with the snakes, and I am totally against animal hunting, is not their affect on humans but on the local ecosystem i.e other animals. A lot of the animals that live in the everglades can ONLY live there and are already endangered, and adding a predator with 0 natural checks on it is disastrous.

Aznknight1337 11 months ago
I realize that this video wanted to zoom in on careless pet owners, and while that may be true to an extent, much of the reason that there is a overabundance of pythons is due to Hurricane Andrew back in '92. So many buildings were damaged and the pet stores lost alot of snakes in the storm.
pbkayakyer 11 months ago
@pbkayakyer yes but the pythons shouldn't be blamed for that and killed on site they were simply trying to survive as any living being would do in such a situation but the deaths cause by the snakes the owners are at fault a properly cared for snake is highly unlikely to eat anyone. and everyone knows snakes are pretty much Houdini when escaping there change if it isn't taken care of and put into a proper cage.
XGirlycardXx 7 months ago
@XGirlycardXx
of course the pythons shouldn't be blamed for that... but that's not why they are being killed on spot. they are being killed on spot because they are an invasive species. they have no natural predators in this environment, and their numbers are rampant. They are eating anything they can to survive- and they'll eat anything smaller than them. They need to be killed on sight. regardless of who or what is to blame for their existence in the everglades.
pbkayakyer 7 months ago
@pbkayakyer there are other invasive species there pets such as cats and dogs are included and truth be told more harmful as you are more likely to be killed by a dog than a snake. the numbers aren't as rampant as the news and media makes them seem the cold winter last year killed a large majority off. also like you said they eat anything smaller than them that also includes other pythons, similarly to what crocodiles and alligators would.
XGirlycardXx 7 months ago
@XGirlycardXx I'm sorry, but cats and dogs are not "invasive species" true, many of them are not native to Florida, but they are not causing enviromental or economic harm. Whereas the pythons are endagering the wildlife in the everglades by feeding on several endagered species. If the last couple cold winter killed off alot of the population, then great, but the pythons can adapt quite easily, and their numbers NEED to be controlled. And I say this as a python owner
pbkayakyer 7 months ago

"A dog could potentially be more dangerous than this animal in the wrong hands". True, but I don't think the host wanted that information to be shared since this show was a witch hunt against snakes in the first place, wasn't it? Many of these pythons were wiped out from the cold winter last year, yet they are trying to tell people they are going to take over basically the entire country soon. Typical. Media sensationalism at work here.

Dudits15 11 months ago
@HoosierHerper another thing that they keep telling people is that the would migrate to all of America never mind all of the climate changes and the fact that it be unlikely for them to survive anywhere. because of people fear for not trying to understand such a beautiful species and do something humane for them its not like the snake wanted such to happen they're just trying to survive.
XGirlycardXx 7 months ago
@HoosierHerper Well considering this video was about a year before that winter actually happened, the videos facts are still in place. They can't focus on a large majority of things because lets face facts, a car is more dangerous then a snake and a dog. They can't change there focus constantly because the point becomes lost on people. Average person can barely watch a 30 minute TV show without changing channels, let alone something boring like this.
megamixa 5 months ago

HoosierHerper 5 months ago
@megamixa There is a lot of speculation in this video, and few facts. And if people don't have the time to watch a 30 minute tv show, they shouldn't be allowed to share speculation as if it were fact either. Sadly, after watching this news segment, they will though. That's my problem with all this. I agree not everyone should not own large snakes like these, and they do need to be removed from the Everglades. But ignorant laws and shows like this are not the answer.
HoosierHerper 5 months ago
@megamixa The video's facts that Burmese Pythons will soon be invading the Carolinas, Georgia, etc? The videos facts about Burmese Pythons can eat adult cows, which was alluded to by the female interviewer in this newscast? The video's facts about all these snakes were let loose by neglectful owner's, not mentioning the hurricanes that came through and freed snakes that were in shipment cargo, as well as pet stores which were destroyed as well? And Bill Nelson wants to end the pet trade!
HoosierHerper 5 months ago
@HoosierHerper However they are still considered an invasive species that wipe out native species by many scientific institutions.
ALEXISOMG234 4 months ago
@ALEXISOMG234 I didn't argue the fact that they were an invasive species, and need to be removed from the Everglades. I was however pointing out the false and/or speculative statements made in the video that they are trying to pass off as fact.
HoosierHerper 4 months ago
@HoosierHerper A large portion of them were wiped out but not all of them. It won't take long for them to repopulate. I didn't see it as a witch hunt against pythons, rather it was an attempt to inform ignorant people who other wise would go out and buy a python just for the novelty and then release it when it becomes to big for them. If you've actually read any kind of peer-reviewed literature covering pythons in the everglades you would see and understand how big of a problem it really is.
bpterry85 3 months ago
@bpterry85 Not once in any of my comments have I downplayed the problem of pythons in the Everglades. I did however point out some of the speculation passed of as fact(which has since been proven false) and ignorance of some of the comments in this video. I also stated the fact that hurricanes played a huge part in the flourishing of pythons in the Everglades, yet yourself and this ignorant report want everyone to think it's all due to irresponsible pet owners. Like I said, media sensationalism.

@Serenoj69 I know and the fact of the matter is I would rather the world be full of snakes than people myself. hahaha
malcontent 11 months ago
@malcontent I don't. People sometimes so judgemental. For personal reasons they decide what is natural (and therefor supposedly "good") and what is bad "unnatural". I cannot find any good, solid description of what natural or unnatural means and why it equals good or bad. To me, eveything is natural, some things are undesirable according to some people. But there can be no consensus on that. If people learned to observe rather than constantly wanting to control their environment...
Serenoj69 11 months ago
@janses08. The simple and best solution for sure. Agreed

SgtTes 1 year ago
@SgtTes Oh you saw a documentary on the unnatural migration of animals and now you are an expert? In a cage a snake doesn't do ANY damage... when people release them they are at fault so it isn't a snake LOVERS problem... we would never release our beloved snakes into the wild where they will die. It is because of some douchebag who buys one and doesn't want it and can't find a buyer/adopter and frees it. Hey there is a huge cat problem... kill them all... ban cats.

The reptile community always reaches out to try and educate ignorant people about our HARMLESS pets!
passionspythons 1 year ago
I live in Alabama and over the last week our high temp during the day has been 32 degrees or lower. So the ignorant people that you (CBS) got their information from are completely WRONG when they say that a python of ANY kind could live north of Florida as far north as Kentucky even. LOL! You should be using your power to educate people on these animals so that when these animals are bought and sold people can understand what they are undertaking, rather than cause random hysteria about pythons.
passionspythons 1 year ago
It's ridiculous to think that "Joe" let his burmese python loose in the everglades and it created a breeding population there. In the wild (i.e. Vietnam) a burmese male MAY come across ONE burmese female. So the idea that "Joe" let his snake out and it created a breeding population is pretty idiotic. I believe one of the Scientist studying how the pythons got in the everglades had 6 'tagged' females and 5 of the 6 died in the last cold snap. They can't survive in other states let alone Florida!

THATS what happened.
