JAP Magneto Repair WICO Type A

Hi mate, I have a magneto like that but on a 2 cylinder engine! Check out my last video. My mag has the top cap broken and it was all corroded! I was trying to fix it and a did. It sparks only for 30 seconds,what do you think is the problem.

if it doesnt have oil it might corrode

Cool vid mate... I work at a recycling centre here in NZ, and up popped a series 'A' Wico High tension magneto....are there enthusiasts that are looking for these things? I personally don'tknow much about these magnetos, but I will hang on to it....

@fjbutch definitly hang onto it! I have a few engines which use the WICO A series, large BSA ones.

just repaired one the same as yours, but for a howard 360 twin engine, it dont half pack a wollop when it gets you

nice! i cant believe hoe well that sparks for a little tinkering!!

the impulse kicks out at around 250 rpm to prevent wear on the mechanism.

just a little nugget of useless info for your pleasure. thats from the jap service manual i got with my jap 5

the impulse mechinisim is a great feature too!, retarding the spark till just after TDC

thats a cool magneto-makes me think of the things that the elusive"joe" e.i. inventor of the joe cell said about using this type of device to run an engine on water.

yea the spring is for starting the engine by ticking over the compression
