  • I knew a fellow, Edgar Kneedler, who was interred at Santo Tomas. His family - the Kneedlers - constructed the first concrete building in Manila, as well as the Bay View Park Hotel. Edgar spent the war in that camp from about early 1943 on; he did succeed in getting his parents out on the Gripsholm in Nov. 1943.

  • The women and children could have been evacuated, but FDR wanted them captured hopeing that the citizens would be for the war for sure, that is how insecure he was.

  • actually, it's 400 years old on 2011. :D It's thrilling to see how the Main Building looks before - it still looks the same, it never changed. I'm so proud i graduated from this university for it is so historical.

  • my grandpa was one of the flying colum that went in on the very initial liberation, it was his proudest moment of the entire war. new guinnea to observing the surrender of japan on the USS MO.

  • My uncle was a staff sgt. in the raid at santo tomas in the 1st cavalry flying column.
